- Flight report of KLM # 672 from Montreal (Canada) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) on January 1st, 2014 in World Business Class aboard a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and a tribute to this great plane which I was lucky enough to fly before her definitive retirement in Victorville, California this fall.

As an overall tribute, images of the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 throughout the video, so please consider the fact that the plane changes names several times or exterior 'Montreal' views that were actually shot in Amsterdam, Curacao or Vancouver as classical movie mistakes ;-)

I love KLM for keeping the MD-11 around for so long. It was just so iconic to see the blue 3 holer coming into to land
97I30T As I wrote earlier already, there are the B777 & 747, and the A340 & 380, but the allure of the MD-11 was just a class of its own. Indeed. And off we go for the next 100 ;-)
But yet another great plane will be slowly but surely phased out. I initially intended to fly their B747 to Seoul this fall but I changed my plans since. So I'm not sure whether I'll ever get the chance to fly that beauty one last time and make a video of it.

My son took this flight earlier this year, I have fond memories of the MD11 as I used to fly on them with Philippine Airlines from Australia, liked also its predecessor the DC10. He commented it was a good flight but the aircraft was a bit noisy.
Can't say i miss the MD-11 or KL's business class in general. Always felt like premium economy more then anything

I work for the catering company who is serving KLM here in YUL. It might be me there in the picture at 4:20. I can say she is a charm to work with and will be missed here even though those electric doors are a PITA when they freeze in winter.

Those guys are the mechanics from Air Canada Maintenance which is contracting maintenance for KLM at YUL.
Going to be a sad day this Saturday to see these majestic planes retire from passenger service

Miss KLM...I have family in Amsterdam, but always find myself flying Star Alliance business from Toronto (mainly AC)...time to fly the blue lady again
Liked this video a lot. Fortunately I too have experienced a flight on the MD-11; last summer on PH-KCE from AMS-YYZ, of which I have two videos uploaded. It is a shame now that of the 6 MD-11s in KLM's fleet, only two are still in service (KCE and I believe KCD), and both will be retired by the end of October. I'm hoping the very last flight is from YYZ-AMS so that I may experience it one last time.

The MD-11 was one of the best planes that have flown and the MD-11 started a new age, the jumbo jets

Beautiful plane, such a shame they no longer carry passengers, could have at least kept one, MD-11 and IL-62 are my favourite planes.

great vid!such a waste and sad it couldnt be saved,i went on the last dc-10 biman airways in 2014,there juast amazing,i am currently trying to organise a 50th celebration event of the dc10/md11 in aug 2020!! already emailed fed-ex and various other companies to see if they can offer there planes for a day or two to celebrate it,the event will be held in england somewhere ;)

The one that made the decision not to give one of those to a museum should be hanged or shot on sight. not one is preserved for the next generations, not one trijet not one md-11. makes me very sad!

The douglas tradition KLM has asks indeed for a museum MD11 and like other commenters said its a shame they are going to scrapmetal.
She is going to the US maybe some old douglas employees can put her on stand there?at least one has to be preserved its the end of an era.
John Rooijakkers I read on NOS online today that the last ones were sold to "an American cargo airline" Anyway, it is definitely the end for MD-11 passenger service,
I flew KLM MD-11 and the registration was PH-KCC at the 7th off may 2011. Do you know what iff KLM replace the MD-11 on YUL route, they will increase the capacity in business class by the quarther.

P. Spielmann So far KLM a 330s do not have a new business class seats but in november, KLM will receive its 5th Airbus a 330-300 and it should have a new business class seats.

Liny Crafts Thanks for your interest. If you watch from 7:00 onwards, you'll see that in each seat in Business Class, there are personal TV screens that can be folded away in the armrest and from about 9:00 onwards, that each seat in Economy has a personal screen in the back of the seat in front of it. Don't forget that this was an old plane fitted out with KLM's old World Business Class. So I don't quite understand your concern about the "absence of personal screens".
