I just made this repair and it's amazing the difference in the sound of the treadmill with new bearings. It had gradually gotten bad over time until it was so loud I thought I would damage the deck. The only things I did different is that I used a spare rod iron stair spindle instead of using the tube. I didn't want to have to grind the hammer surface on the metal shaft. I also used a 4lb sledgehammer. two hits and the old bearings were removed and re-seated.with new ones. Excellent video.
Thanks! Fixed my treadmill today using your video. Used a soft mallet and a bit less force to remove the old bearings and set the new. No need to grind or anything. Can't believe the difference and wish i followed this video a year ago when the noise started!
Excellent Video. Yesterday I changed the bearings following your steps. I feel relax, because have a new treadmill, I believed need to buy a new one. This video saved me $500.00
Ok first of all Michael: THANK YOU! I just picked up a used F80 for my wife for a great price, proudly got it home and fired it up to show what a great find I had for her..... and realized in testing it at the seller's, I'd not gotten it above 2MPH to hear the glorious sound of a failed bearing. Finding your video was perfect; grabbed a set of 3 bearings (why? 3? dunno) from Amazon for less than 10 bucks; and an hour plus 15 min, have this thing back to the "whisper quiet" advertised!!! The hour of my 1.25 hours was only to keep the roller tube plus old bearings still installed, in my freezer that long! Getting it nice and cold got both bearings out with a couple of whacks with a 3lb hammer and board in between. Out they came, and the new ones popped right in. No grinding, no fuss, and I didn't even have to change out of my work clothes. My wife is now impressed with my uncanny skill, and I'll be throwing the credit your way as I've never messed with anything on a treadmill before this (short of watching my wife use it!). Many thanks!! 3 years later and your excellent tips are still saving marriages. Kudos!
I wrote it on the cover art ... "clunk clunk clunk" :D That would have had a nice effect though. I'll put that idea in my basket of video-tools for future use. Thank you!
Michael great video you prepared here! I am DIY enthusiast. My wife has the same treadmill and she is very happy with it. Now we noticed the same problem and I was suspicious that was the bearings... You helped enormously. Perhaps an extractor from kukko brand may help here to remove the bearings. Thanks for sharing with us and greetings from Greece - Athens.
Greetings my friend and thank you 🙏 So glad it was helpful. Great treadmill! It has been quiet and smooth since the fix 💪 I’m sure a formal bearing tool would be wonderful!
Just did the same thing for our Sole F80. It is only 5 1/2 years old, but has a ton of miles on it. Fixed the noise and it is smooth now, like new. The old bearings were super rough and had been making noise for a few months. Thanks so much for this helpful video!
Great vid. Thought my treadmill was trash. Was just about to pay $2,300 for a new one when I found this vid. Replaced the roller and as good as new. Thank you for making the vid
Fantastic. Our Nordictrack EXP 1000 xl is starting to clunk some when first started up or when running very slowly. Probably has some life left in it, but it was great to find your video (I know my bearing is probably different part number, but the basic design is the same). Thanks so much for taking the time to make the video and share it on RUclips.
This was very well explained!! Love it. My treadmill was also very loud coming from the rear roller. I did exactly what you did in your video and solved it with this knowledge. Thanks a lot Michael. Best regards from Germany, Roland
I know this video was done a bit ago. But my treadmill is making that crappy sound. So I looked up the bearings and found them on Amazon $7.00 each. I am ordering them and going to try your fix. Thank you for the video.
This video is amazing: I had the same issue with my threadmill and was already ready to fork out 100$ for the new idle roller, but watching it gave me confidence that I would be able to fix it myself. It was not too difficult! Thank you a lot!
Very detailed and insightful video. When I stand in my belt a screech comes from front roller/ pulley area. Any advice? I cleaned, tightened, lubricated already. Thanks
I would pull the front cover off and check it out. Pretty sure you have a drive belt coming off the motor. Like a squealing serpentine/fan belt on a car when it goes bad and is slipping. My guess!
Great video. Very well made and shows everything I need to know in an efficient manner. Also thank you for the information on adjusting the belt tension. This is probably why my bearings went bad after 6 years of hard use.
@@sstressfl Replaced them tonight and it sounds brand new! Took longer to find a rod to knock em out with than replace them and get it all back together.
As someone else mentioned I think I boogered up ours by overtightening the belt tension. It was only a few years old but it never was "right" after I loosened it to oil the belt one day ... So it was probably totally user error lol. How often do you oil the belt?
It’s easy to over tighten! I tighten mine until it floats above the base a little bit then I get on it to see if it slips when I run on it. When it’s too loose the belt will stop momentarily when you stomp down on it. I tighten it a little bit at a time until it no longer slips. And I lube the belt as soon as it feels like it’s dragging. Maybe once every 3 months? 3 of us in the family use it almost daily. Hope that helps!
Great video! My Sole F80 seems to be slippery recently with the squeaking sound. When running on the treadmill, I feel that the supporting board is not stable and balanced like before. I tightened the belt with both sides and made sure the belt was properly oiled but issue still remained. Do you think the rear roller is the issue? TIA
Do you mean the belt is slipping? If that’s happening it usually means the belt is too loose. But if you feel like the board underneath your feet is loose, you can disassemble it and tighten the screws that hold it down. I had to do that once. Those grey side covers that run the full length of the treadmill can be removed, then you can access the base board screws.
Buy yourself a 5/8TH round by 3FT long steel zinc coated rod at Lowes for 13 bucks. Then insert the rod into the roller and tap bearing out it with a hammer. I had the roller laying on top of a car tire to grip the roller ever time I tapped it. Remember inside the bearing shaft theirs a lip inside the roller before the bearing you don't want to hit that part. Just the lip of the bearing. Also, use a 3lb 12 inch hammer rather then a regular hammer. Pop goes the weasel. Then add some anti seize to the inside opening of the roller where the bearing will meet and you'll be much happier if you have to change your bearings again. You won't beat up your treadmill shaft using the 3ft 5/8 rod instead and the 3lb, 12 inch hammer are cheap pop's the bearing on the first or second strike and your repair goes faster. I followed your system and since I don't have an expensive vise. I used a tire for gripping and holding the roller. Thank You.
Hi, nice work, at the beginning of the video you mention that you cleaned the roller a few years back before replacing the bearings and that it helped with the noise, did you dissassembled the roller completely like in this video or just cleaned it as it is, and how did you cleaned it (or was the bearings that needed cleaning?). I would be very grateful if you could help me.
Hi! I took the entire roller off the back of the treadmill just like in this video but I did not remove the bearings. I wiped everything down and then sprayed triflow lubricant on the bearings until they rolled smoother and quieter. It helped for a few more months but then it started getting louder again. I knew it was time to fix it. I hope that helps!
Super helpful! I just adopted a new treadmill but unfortunately it seems like it has a bad roller or bearing on one side. I ruled out the belt as it's all straight. I guess there's no easy way of determining whether its a roller or bearing?

Its possible you got a poorly manufactured bearing. The entire deck came loose on mine and I had to tighten it up. I had to remove the top trim pieces and tighten all of the screws that hold it down. Possible thats what's making the noise? Not long ago I had some new noise developing and took the front cover off and cleaned everything. The noise went away. Hope you can find it. @@josephsetto3930 Awesome discovery! A little worrisome though... sounds like the barrel (the bread roller) is stretched out and won't hold onto the bearing anymore. You can buy ball bearing shims, but you need to know how thick it needs to be and the diameter. Or you could try red loctite and "glue" it in. The loctite will create a very strong bond but should be able to loosen up with heat. Worse case sceanrio, you need to buy a whole new roller. I hope you can find a fix!

Michael - finally got the new bearings... Springs came off - easy peasy. However - the shaft doesn't come out the other end. Also, not noticing a washer on either side. Any thoughts? I was expecting the shaft to be easily removed once the clips came off.
@@chrishromada3910 The washer, I believe, compensates for spacing. The assemblers that put these together would use one, I suspect, only if they needed it. So I wouldn't worry if yours does or doesn't have a washer. When you say you can't remove the shaft, does it move at all? Does it slide? Without seeing it I would think corrosion or mild rust, dirt build up on the shaft... something is causing it to stick to the bearings. If that's the case, you might to spay a little oil on it, wipe it down, maybe even use a fine grit sand paper or steel wool to clean the surface. And perhaps tap the shaft with a hammer to see if it pops loose. Don't use excessive force. You could just make it stuck. It should come out easily. The other possibility is that the shaft is bent. But that seems unlikely, right?
Figured it out ... didn't see this in your video.. but unbeknownst to me - there was a another spring pliers that was on the "inside" as well.... I used some gentle force to extract the one end - off came the bear + the shaft and on the stuck end of the shaft was another spring ring that was preventing mine from sliding off. Had you taken yours apart previously?
I haven’t looked! Front is still very quiet. But I think there is a belt that runs to roller and that roller has bearings on it. I suspect very similar but requires a little more tear down.
Great video. I have a MaxKare treadmill, and I have not been able to find a replacement roller anywhere (they have every roller for every brand EXCEPT Maxkare) so maybe if I can remove the bearings in the roller, and God willing have part numbers on it that I can get, and replace them, this could be my answer. Hoping so. Again Great video.
Its easy to do! I do a slip test.... with the treadmill running, I push my foot forward on the belt to see if the belt slips. If it slips too easy I tighten the belt a little bit more. Thank you for your feedback!
Do you know if it risks damage to the treadmill if you keep running on it w/ bad bearings? I am waiting for mine to arrive but don't want to stop running!
My guess would be potential for it to freeze up which might cause you to fall if it stops suddenly. If it’s dragging bad it puts stress on the motor. It would also stress the belt. When mine was going bad I kept running... it made noise but I didn’t detect that it was overly tight or dragging. You’ll have to make the decision based on the symptoms you can detect.
My Sole TT8 is making a high frequency humming sound. I did replace the rubber belt, but still it makes humming sound and when I stand on the deck, the belt mat slips until it can build momentum. Could this be the bearing that are bad? this does not have a clunking sound.
Have you lubed the belt? It sounds dry. I use this stuff. Just a small bit under the belt, middle, near the area where you step down. It will make the belt slide with ease when you put your weight on it and allow the motor to spin with out as much resistance. My guess is that noise is probably the motor working too hard. amzn.to/3BjmA26
I wish I had captured it! It was a thunk thunk thunk thunk sound and clearly in the back. I have also heard a lighter thumping sound in the front, but I removed the cover and cleaned all of the dust out of it and it got quiet again. Hope you can diagnose your issue!
@@sstressfl I emailed the Sole CS a video sound but didnt hear back yet...can I email it to you? Im so afraid of this being somthing non fixable. Ive been searching you tube for an answer but no videos play the sound it makes.
finally found a video that show me how to fix my noisy treadmill, but another problem is my running belt stop splitsecond when i'm on it. tried to lubricated and tighten up the belt but still no luck. any advice sir?
Your belt needs to be lubricated! Every time you take a step your weight presses the belt against the base and causes it to grab and stop until you lift your weight off of it. There is specific lube for treadmills. And there is a process. I use treadmill lube on the end of a flat long steel ruler and reach in under the belt near the running area to apply the lube. I do this about every 6 months or when I think I sense it gripping the base 👍 Hope that helps!!
@@sstressfl yeah the belt is very old, about 12 years or so. never replace it because i rarely use it back then, started using it frequently since oct 2019 and felt the belt slip last month. i tried to lubcricated the belt but still the belt stop splitsecond when i'm on it. i guess i missed middle area a little bit, will try to lubricate it again sooner and try to fix the noisy roller. again, thank you so much sir for all the informations and advices 👍
Pretty sure the thing you’re calling a clip is actually called a snap ring. And the pliers you use to work with me are called snap ring pliers. Just for any future viewers of this video. But otherwise thanks for this!
Hi. I replaced the bearings but the clicking noise is still there. Then I replaced it again thinking the new bearing was bad quality and relevant got NTN Japan beatings and the noise was still there. darn what's the problem. ps. the NTN Japanese bearings were dope. the build quality was amazing.
Interesting. Top of mind... the belt is too tight? Try varying the tension. If that's not it, the noise could be coming from the front, which can sound like its coming from "everywhere". Try opening up the front and giving it a good cleaning (usually filled with dust)/inspection and let it run slow with the cover off... keep your hair/body/clothes away from moving parts to be safe. See if you can detect the actual source of the click. If the click happens only when you run, it could be a loose rail. Make sure everything is tight. It could also be the feet on the bottom. Make sure the unit it level and is not flexing when in use. Hope you find it! Come and back and share, if you don't mind.
When you take it apart, if its using similar bearings to mine, there should be a # stamped into the bearing. That # should lead you to the correct bearing.
Thanks for posting! I replaced two bearings in a Proform Pro 2000. They were also 6203Z that I replaced with 6203ZZ (or 2Z) and they fit perfectly. I don't have a snap ring pliers, so I used nails and vice grips like this video: ruclips.net/video/wXnjiXvi0gY/видео.html I did use the rod at a slight angle to push out the first one from the other end, but used a block of 2x4 and a dead blow mini-sledgehammer to avoid damage to the rod end. For the second end I dropped a large fender washer down into the roller, so a couple smacks with the hammer and it was out. The rod/axle was unscathed. I ended up using Timken bearings from Amazon, but they look like they are likely made in China anyway.
I’ve heard such things for when the bearing just won’t go. Have you tried it? It makes sense to me but I always though it would be too insignificant unless you also heated the outer piece. But for this application it really wasn’t hard to seat the bearings.
Someone else mentioned that before. But it missed it! If it’s any help the clunk was very obviously in the back and it was a very distinct clunk clunk clunk that got faster as I added speed to the treadmill.
I just made this repair and it's amazing the difference in the sound of the treadmill with new bearings. It had gradually gotten bad over time until it was so loud I thought I would damage the deck.
@@sstressfl Trying some liquid gasket at the moment. I don't know if Loctite will ''fill''' enough. If the gasket doesn't work I'll try the Loctite. will let you know.
Liquid gasket did work! Running smooth... for about six hours. Then slowly it was pressed to the inside of the roller resulting in the sound returning. Will be trying the Loctite next.
I might be missing it, but can you please share the link to the bearings. Embarking on this same repair right now. Thanks for the great video
You got it :) Have fun! BTW, mine are still smooooth and quiet! I smile every time I get on it :) www.walmart.com/ip/6203Z-Deep-Groove-Radial-Single-Row-Ball-Bearing-17x40x12mm/45587642

Any chance you have done the front bearings? Same process?
I haven’t looked! Front is still very quiet. But I think there is a belt that runs to roller and that roller has bearings on it. I suspect very similar but requires a little more tear down.
Great video. I have a MaxKare treadmill, and I have not been able to find a replacement roller anywhere (they have every roller for every brand EXCEPT Maxkare) so maybe if I can remove the bearings in the roller, and God willing have part numbers on it that I can get, and replace them, this could be my answer. Hoping so. Again Great video.
Thank you 🙏 I hope it works out 🙌👍
I have a Sole f85 and the top roller is making the clunking noise.
Any idea how to remove the front roller?
This video will give you a looksy at it! ruclips.net/video/DZHg0z2eucI/видео.html
@@sstressfl Thank you
Great video. Crystal clear. Thank you! And G-d bless you too!
I think I wore the bearings faster by overtightening, thanks for the great tutorial
@Michael Byrne I hoped you would show us the sound the bad bareings made, ours is making noise but we dont know what it is!
@@Aleahh1 Id be happy to listen to it and tell you if it sounds like mine did... send it to michael@clickthruvt.com
What is the name of the tool you used to get the clips off the bearing?
Snap Ring Plier!
finally found a video that show me how to fix my noisy treadmill, but another problem is my running belt stop splitsecond when i'm on it. tried to lubricated and tighten up the belt but still no luck. any advice sir?
Your belt needs to be lubricated! Every time you take a step your weight presses the belt against the base and causes it to grab and stop until you lift your weight off of it. There is specific lube for treadmills. And there is a process. I use treadmill lube on the end of a flat long steel ruler and reach in under the belt near the running area to apply the lube. I do this about every 6 months or when I think I sense it gripping the base 👍 Hope that helps!!
@@sstressfl thank you so much sir, i"ll try to lubricate the belt again.
@@ahmadrinaldi3181 is it possible you missed an area? Or is the belt very old and worn?
@@sstressfl yeah the belt is very old, about 12 years or so. never replace it because i rarely use it back then, started using it frequently since oct 2019 and felt the belt slip last month. i tried to lubcricated the belt but still the belt stop splitsecond when i'm on it. i guess i missed middle area a little bit, will try to lubricate it again sooner and try to fix the noisy roller.
again, thank you so much sir for all the informations and advices 👍
@@ahmadrinaldi3181 Ok! I think it will be fine when you relube it :) My best to you and your family. Stay healthy my friend!
Pretty sure the thing you’re calling a clip is actually called a snap ring. And the pliers you use to work with me are called snap ring pliers. Just for any future viewers of this video. But otherwise thanks for this!
Yes that is correct thank you 🙏
Thank you so much. This saved me couple hundred bucks :-)
So great to hear! 💪 Thanks for the feedback 🙏
Thanks. fixed my treadmill!
Thanks man you saved my time
So glad it helped 👍
Appreciate your video... I just fixed my treadmill noise problem :- )
Alright! Great news :)
You're awesome, thanks! just fixed mine!
Love it 🙌 thank you 🙏
Look for monarch bearing in Santa Fe Springs or Whittier California
"Breadroller" i've died 😂 If you dont want to flare ends, dont use the pin as ramrod :P
😂 glad you had a laugh 👍🙏
How do you know what sizes bearing to get
I found small numbers on the side of the existing bearings then did a google search. The # corresponds to a standard size bearing 👍
Beautiful thanks very much
Good job man
Great video. Thanks 🙏
Thank you 🙏
Use a wooden block when hammering on the metal shaft.
very nice!! thanks!
Does anyone know where I can pickup a set of bearing for my Profrom treadmill?
When you take it apart, if its using similar bearings to mine, there should be a # stamped into the bearing. That # should lead you to the correct bearing.
Thank you very much!
Appreciate the feedback Greg! So glad it was a help :)
Thanks for posting! I replaced two bearings in a Proform Pro 2000. They were also 6203Z that I replaced with 6203ZZ (or 2Z) and they fit perfectly. I don't have a snap ring pliers, so I used nails and vice grips like this video: ruclips.net/video/wXnjiXvi0gY/видео.html
I did use the rod at a slight angle to push out the first one from the other end, but used a block of 2x4 and a dead blow mini-sledgehammer to avoid damage to the rod end. For the second end I dropped a large fender washer down into the roller, so a couple smacks with the hammer and it was out. The rod/axle was unscathed. I ended up using Timken bearings from Amazon, but they look like they are likely made in China anyway.
Awesome :) Good tips and good outcome :D Love it! Thanks for the feedback!
AWESOME VIDEO, thanks, and of course I save it.
So glad it helped! Thank you for the feedback my friend 🙏
@@sstressfl Hi Michael, one more thing!! WHERE DID YOU ORDER THE BARRINGS?? I can't find them. Thanks again.

funny mine has eaten both front bearings rears are like new
That’s weird! I get messages all the time about the rear bearings.
Amazing
Next time just put the new bearings into the freezer for a few hours before installing em and u wont need to use any force.
I’ve heard such things for when the bearing just won’t go. Have you tried it? It makes sense to me but I always though it would be too insignificant unless you also heated the outer piece. But for this application it really wasn’t hard to seat the bearings.
@@sstressfl I havent tried it yet, i only saw it on youtube.
would have been nice if you turn the treadmill on and let us have a listen !!!!!!
Someone else mentioned that :) Will have to remember the importance of a before / after!
Bought new roller ? Didn’t need
Hi Pamela... help me understand. What are you asking? Thanks!
Use a rubber mallet next time not a hammer
My rubber mallet wasnt heavy or stiff enough to start moving it :/
Iiiiooooooooo
I was really hoping to see a demonstration of the clunking sound before you started the repair. 🫤 That would've been super helpful, too.
Someone else mentioned that before. But it missed it! If it’s any help the clunk was very obviously in the back and it was a very distinct clunk clunk clunk that got faster as I added speed to the treadmill.
