It's a horde-killing chaff-clear weapon, it's not meant to do anything to big heavy targets. It's a proximity fuse; you shoot it not AT the target, but past a target, so it will throw small bomblets on the targets for damage. The damage pattern is a giant circle when viewed from above; targets in the center MAY get minimal damage, while those in the bomblet circle will take moderate damage, enough to kill many small enemies in a wide area.
literally noone uses mines. i feel like they need to rebalance them, you should be able to call them in way more often they take 3 minutes to get back up while instead you could just bring airburst orbital which has a 2 minute cooldown or just a turret which is 3 minutes but also lasts way longer and can potentially kill more enemies than mines. vehicle mines would only really be useful if called down on a choke point or as anti-hulk/charger/bile titan, tanks dont really move too much so its situational at best, plus they dont even effect one of the vehicles they have added recently (gunships). much better to get an actual weapon that is great aoe instead of using something a orbital/recoilless/autocannon could deal with easily. try using airburst rockets with team reload, they can clear out entire waves of enemies meant for 4 players.
after watching this video I have a feeling people really misunderstand what each weapon is supposed to do. like, this thing is NOT an anti armour weapon this rocket basically shoots 6 frags granades in one missile. that's it. it blows a wide range. It seems to have medium pen. but it is meant to be used more like a mortal or actual air burst (hence the name) Shoot at the hulk, 5 meters away and being surprised that you blow youself up and not the heavy armour is a failure on the user, not the weapon
Depends on your play style I suppose. This is simply another tool in our arsenal that helps to deal with certain threats. This thing will be AMAZING on any mission with Shriekers or Gun Ships, but if the game throws a bunch of heavies at you, it's gonna suffer.
ngl, it's kinda funny seeing people who think an "Airburst" is an AA weapon just because it's got "Air" in its name, and sure there are airburst systems designed for AA however the primairy use of an airburst systems has always been to clear out infantry fortifications and lay down heavy suppresion through artillery in order to clear out a battlefield to cover an advance.

It might not be the best now, but in the future it may be. We are getting more and more options, every weapon that is created isn't going to be for every situation. People calling it trash but people are forgetting, fire at enemies FAR AWAY. Of course you’re going to die if you fire at enemies who are 10m away from you. Minimum 50-100m away.

I tried doing that, but more than once, for some reason, either it blew up in my hand, or very close, killing most of the squad. May there was a tiny little brach or something in the way, causing it to blow up.
Should be good for patrols if you can detonate on second press while airborne (or time it). Aim above the patrol, detonate above, cluster drops on entire patrol in AOE. If it works as intended..
It uses a proximity fuse at the moment, so if you aim above a patrol, it will do what you describe by itself (though probably a bit earlier than you would want). It also triggers when close to players and I think hellpods though, which is why it makes everyone team kill. I have managed to wipe full patrols though and even got 26 kills on one shot when there were a ton of light enemies in one area

One thing about the ariburst is that I'm pretty sure it's anti-infantry. I just noticed that you were making a lot of comparisons like it was an impact rocket like the others, but the main point of the item is to be fired over enemies as the proximity fuze rains down on them. A portable cluster strike basically. When firing directly at an enemy, the poximiy fuze can and will detonate too short to get the full effect as well. Aso why you're clipping yourself. It has a huge AOE and you're starting the detonation at the edge where most likely only half the bursts are making it to the enemies and the other half is back at you. Try it like it's not a recoiless and you'll probably have a better time with it
Whenever the damn thing gets near a tree it goes boom. Like, can we have a player controlled proximity burst where I hold the trigger after I fire and release it to blow it up?
I love that all the comments are as frustrated as I am, like DUDE stop using it from like 20 feet away after you've seen it have like a 30ft burst for the 6th time. I know the weapon seems to bug out, and or we don't know how to use it yet, and the explosion is funny but this isn't helpful or entertaining to be honest
Anti tank mines are less likely to TK then normal, as they take a lot of pressure to set off. Light enemies as well as helldivers will not be heavy enough
This was painful to watch. You fundamentally don't understand the function of this weapon. This is made for clearing trash mobs (especially not at point-blank range), just like the eagle cluster bomb. That's why it doesn't damage armored targets or structures (Anti-personnel, not Anti-tank).
Sometimes I forget that some gamers are totally illiterate and play their strategems accordingly. Usually when someone says "broken" it just means they dont comprehend it, or where it fits in the arsenal.
Doode its supposed to shoot Schrapsel wich is used against crowds of umarmend Infanterie not armored targets. jut because it looks like a standard rpg ist not intended to use it as such. also its called airburt, ur suposed to fire it over wals, trenches or next to cover to hit enemies indirectly who have no line of sigth to you.
Geez, it's a super AOE, medium damage weapon. Use it against swarms of weak bots and bug swarms. Don't bring it to high level bot missions. Yes, it was given to us on a bot planet, but it don't work well there. Or, spam bot fortresses from a distance, idk.
It rips from an elevated position or for pre clearing a point from afar. I treat it like a small launching eagle cluster. Very easy to die but rains death from above. It’ll be a bug blender especially in heavy nests. Very mid against bots but great to clear the little guys so they can’t call drop ship
You do know that “air-burst rocket” means it explodes in the air at a set range (in conjunction to the ground or a target), right? You’re not supposed to fire it at your target directly. Instead, you fire it above to rain down hell on your target
It's very good for swarms. I think at the moment it also uses a proximity fuse that goes off when it gets within range of an enemy, helldiver, or even hellpod. This is at least one of the reasons why it team kills everyone. If an ally is off to the side, but like 1 foot in front of you, it will explode immediately
the airburst launcher has exploded in my face every time I have tried to use it. The fact you were actually able to shoot it was something I did not even think was possible.
From what I've gathered, it uses a proximity fuse. If it detects an enemy nearby, it explodes. This is also true for other helldivers though, so if you have an ally a foot in front of you, even if they are nowhere near your line of fire, since they are in that radius, it blows up the instant it leave the barrel. I believe hellpods also set it off the same way. That said, I've had some scenarios where there was nothing in front of me and I still sploded, but it's been happening a lot less taking those things into account.
I think a number of these stratagems are really good situationally, but the worry is that you can only take so many, and not knowing what situations you could face you'll take the most flexible (unless it's a team comp but most of pf use aren't clever enough or have enough friends for that). Its not really a problem now, but once there are more stratagems it could lead to some really cool stuff being left behind cause you don't think you'll ever get to use it untill you need it.
@@vincentdeluca4485 there's much better options that wouldn't be such a threat to yourself and your team. You could use this against a distant patrol that you could've just avoided, but in an engagement with them heading straight for you? It will blow up in your face.
5:09 😂 it can be annoying some times but I love how funny it can be how many times you can randomly just get ragdolled repeatedly from randoms stuff in the game.
The reason it seems to explode is apparently the rocket has a proximity mechanic to it so it can trigger based on things being near it, not being directly hit by it.
My experience with the new Airburst Rocket Launcher was the exact same, when I tested it out yesterday. It was basically a 50/50 chance on either killing myself and my teammates, or killing the enemies. But when it hit a dropship, I got a multitude of kills, which is nice.
I know it seems bad at first but it’s amazing. I came upon several groups of rocket dev. And adds and it will destroy an entire area of enemies on the ground. It’s truly not made for tanks or ships at all or even buildings if you don’t hit them twice. It is amazing as a one shot enemy killer for clearing a wide area of enemies including anything but a hulk. Also when you were dying up close it’s because there were a few small rocks at the level of the enemies you were shooting at but the rock was closer so it went off before it got to where you were aiming. You need to be on level ground or high ground with nothing to activate the rockets. Shoot the ground at the feet of the enemies. Hope this helps 😊
It's a massive area of effect that is only useful against massed mobs of infantry or light bug swarms. You need to fire it over the top of the area that you're attacking and do it from range. Firing it over the top of a bot base works to clear out the trash before going in. Won't kill anything over a devastator though, excluding the striders though. Clears out packs of them very very easily.
First shot when first called in trolls you. It’s good for clearing out light enemies, its a two man plan, throw in a stun, use it to delete the troopers and soldiers then your buddy comes in with heavy weapon and I/you through down a second stun if needed and help clean up.
I tested it out on both bugs and atomatoms and its better against the bugs. Rules for firing it: 1. Do not shoot at anything less than 50 meters away 2. Do not fire downhill 3. When firing clear a considerable distance fire a few meters above the cluster of enemies. 4. Can be fired on level ground but do not fire it in jungles such as this one in the video. 5. Does not work against any atomotan other than regular grunts or gunships where as it works for most bugs besides BT’s and Chargers.
It's like a cluster bomb that can be deployed mid-air. You have to overshoot targets on the ground and make sure you're a good distance from targets in the air.
The interesting thing about this game, is no matter how wonky a mechanic is, core players will defend it and say other players aren't playing properly (especially the things where it is obvious they will be be patched).
I thought the air bust would be really good on the bellies of drop ships as they come it, but it just doesnt seem to do much to anything more than troopers or scouts, it really needs to cripple the devastators blowing off their arms, weapons or legs, then it would be pretty good verse groups of devastators considering the reload.
I think the biggest fix would be if the cluster wasn't just random, but directed in the path you shot in. Like a cone AOE instead of a circle. Otherwise, probably best used on the tower defense mission.
It needs to have a distance from the user at which the rocket just explodes as an HE blast. Anywhere beyond that distance it would do the Airburst explosion. It's more of a danger to the user than the enemy in it's current state.
Also it functions just like the sentry turrets, the rocket will detonate over anything be it bot, bug, or hell divers so be mindful what's in front of you and how far away it is when you pull the trigger.
Airburst killed more helldivers than enemies during all my testing. EVERYTHING and even the AIR is a collision barrier for this to blow up on your face. I couldn't even kill an air drop ship with it, it sure cleared most of the units after they landed, and me with it.
I feel like the only problem with the airburst is that the collision for its rocket activation is completely bugged. Because instead of erupting the moment it's near a Target sometimes it activates away before that with the outer edge of its blast radius killing you. The blast radius should start once it hits or is right next to the Target you were aiming at but currently it's just detonating even if it's with the outer edge and then all the explosions kill you.
Good video demonstrating how NOT to use the air-burst rocket launcher. I had no issues with the weapon on Helldive difficulty missions. Still prefer the Autocannon, but the Airburst isn't a bad choice against groups of enemies.
I think you should have an option by holding R (similar to changing fire rate) that sets a minimum detonation distance. If it doesn't explode make it do no explosion damage and only impact damage, but have it do decent impact damage. Slightly less than the recoilless rifle, bot no aoe damage.
They need to add a delayed proximity fuse that only activates after travelling a safe distance because this thing becomes instantly useless if a tiny bug/bot is mildly to the side of your screen.
This is pretty much a Support weapon equivalent to the Eagle Clusterbomb, saturate an area with lots of light explosions. Using an AA/AOE rocket on heavy armor and calling bad is crazy lol. You don't call the cluster bomb bad cause it cant destroy hulks, that's not its role. We have many AT rockets available, this one is the ONLY AoE rocket meant for clearing groups of light enemies. Your also not firing your rocket into the Fabricators, its an airburst, if it gets close to a target (Anything, Yes ground included) it detonates mid air. It explodes before entering the building. Also for best effect shoot above an enemy cause the Clusterbombs will drop below slightly. For example Gunships, dont aim for the gunship, aim slightly above it so the clusters drop onto them
Aim slightly above your target, the Rocket has a proxy fuse. Once it opens up, multiple bombs drop from the cluster Rocket. Direct fire will not be a good idea

literally noone uses mines. i feel like they need to rebalance them, you should be able to call them in way more often they take 3 minutes to get back up while instead you could just bring airburst orbital which has a 2 minute cooldown or just a turret which is 3 minutes but also lasts way longer and can potentially kill more enemies than mines. vehicle mines would only really be useful if called down on a choke point or as anti-hulk/charger/bile titan, tanks dont really move too much so its situational at best, plus they dont even effect one of the vehicles they have added recently (gunships). much better to get an actual weapon that is great aoe instead of using something a orbital/recoilless/autocannon could deal with easily. try using airburst rockets with team reload, they can clear out entire waves of enemies meant for 4 players.
Stylosa: Showing us he hasn't used the orbital airburst much xD
People be sleeping on the airburst orbital
People sleep on anything that they haven't tried or tried only once (and sucked at using it) without actually learning how and when to use it.
Not really feeling this weapon, just my opinion.
dont be afraid to say what you mean for helldivers 2 if you love this game
after watching this video I have a feeling people really misunderstand what each weapon is supposed to do.
like, this thing is NOT an anti armour weapon
this rocket basically shoots 6 frags granades in one missile.
that's it.
it blows a wide range. It seems to have medium pen.
but it is meant to be used more like a mortal or actual air burst (hence the name)
Shoot at the hulk, 5 meters away and being surprised that you blow youself up and not the heavy armour is a failure on the user, not the weapon
Depends on your play style I suppose. This is simply another tool in our arsenal that helps to deal with certain threats. This thing will be AMAZING on any mission with Shriekers or Gun Ships, but if the game throws a bunch of heavies at you, it's gonna suffer.
Try firing it into the air. You’ll have a much better time (especially against bug breaches)
Its definitely bugged, it explodes in your face for no reason when aiming
ngl, it's kinda funny seeing people who think an "Airburst" is an AA weapon just because it's got "Air" in its name, and sure there are airburst systems designed for AA however the primairy use of an airburst systems has always been to clear out infantry fortifications and lay down heavy suppresion through artillery in order to clear out a battlefield to cover an advance.
This isn't an anti tank weapon... i feel like people really lacking lacking some common sense. This is a anti air weapon aoe weapon. You shoot at the an air enemy and it takes out everything in that area. You can argue its too situational, but come on people, use some critical thinking here.
Sadly, "common sense" isn't common at all these days.
It triggers on foliage a rock surface... its just way too situational to make any meaning impact on the battle field this is yet another hot garbage support weapon that's been added to the list
@@HeresGrey It's a solution to a problem we don't have yet - swarms of squishy airborne targets (like Shriekers and whatever Illuminate will have this time around). It's not great right now, but it sure will have it's use in the future.
@@HeresGrey Many weapons were too situational, until they added more and more enemy types. Either way, this is the use case of the weapon. It is what it is. It's another option we have and we already have aoe ground strategems and we already have plenty of anti-tank options. This one is exclusively for air. It might not be the best now, but in the future it may be. We are getting more and more options, every weapon that is created isn't going to be for every situation. There is going to be those that have their uses against one situation or type of enemy. If you wanted aoe ground, we have eagle-1, if you wanted anti-tank we have rockets and quaser and orbitals. This one is for air bursts, as in the name. Not every weapon needs to be for every situation. Some weapons can be situational. There's literally nothing wrong with that.
Have you tried it against an air enemy though? We don't know how it does against Shriekers but against Gunships it does nothing and dropships it rarely kills the crew (even the Eruptor does a better job at both)
Honestly amazing for clearing small points of interest and light outposts, you can let your attack stratagems like railcannon or 500 kg do the heavy lifting
Exactly this
People calling it trash but people are forgetting, fire at enemies FAR AWAY. Of course you’re going to die if you fire at enemies who are 10m away from you. Minimum 50-100m away.
Also it has a proximity fuse, which means it doesn't explode "randomly" but when it's in proximity to *anything,* be it an enemy, the ground, a rock or a bush.
Not going to make a difference if it explodes in your face anyway.
People are not calling it trash because they fire it close and die. People calling it trash because it's useless garbage.
I tried doing that, but more than once, for some reason, either it blew up in my hand, or very close, killing most of the squad. May there was a tiny little brach or something in the way, causing it to blow up.
@@christophvogel1080 it's possible the proxy fuse is a little too sensitive? But they'll get it all sorted out.
Launchers pretty good against Hulks, if the rocket flies behind them and all the little explosions destroy its back
Got a genuine chuckle out of watching this guy struggle to wrap his head around the concept of a proximity fuse. Dude was firing off cluster bombs at targets 10 meters away and was confused every time he got caught in the blast, shit like this is why I love this game
I guess you missed the part at 8:30 when he tried shooting a gunship and still exploded in his face. Tell me what your excuse for that is?
got a genuine chuckle out of reading your message struggling to wrap your head around the concept of a weapon that isn't working as intended. your seeing him fire it multiple times and sometimes it would blow up right away and other times it would go farther meaning the detonation was not consistent rather than user error.
the developers themselves said its not working as intended and they messed up with patches by giving us the wrong version. literally one of the first things the RUclipsr said in his commentary.
garbage and bugs like this is why my friends dont play this game anymore.
@@Dabtekku He fired the rocket in close proximity of a tree there funny stuff
Honestly, it looks like it might be better against bugs than bots. It doesn't do much damage but has such a big aoe that you'd be able to do a lot of damage to a horde of bugs
Yup, my most effective use so far has been huge groups of the small fast bots. Got 26 in one shot at one point. Should be great against bug swarms, if you are far away. Very bad if even 1 but gets close though...
Why is there so much people defending this. Its very rare that this weapon is in its ideal situation, of light to meduim units from 50 plus meters away. Even so, this weapon took 2 shots to kill a devestator.
It's airburst, not a groundburst Sty :P
I mean true, but like 95% of a match wont have air units since they only spawn at specialized poi's. Meaning its useless the rest of the time if you don't use it on ground troops.
Waste of a stratagem slot imo.
@@pleebean789 Well yes, it is a waste of a strategem slot if you're gonna use a screwdriver to try to hammer a nail. Stylosa when the "airburst" rocket launcher doesn't destroy tanks. "It must be broken"
At the 8:29 mark, when his airburst explodes immediately after lunch, the reason is because the drop pod that was right next to him triggered the explosion. This gun is absolute trash. I would pick the broken spear over this any day.
Not trash, just takes some thinking to use
That's why It's a AIR BURST and not ANTI AIR. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE!
Look up the XM25 Us Military Airburst Grenade Launcher.
I see Arrowhead's vision for this weapon, and I'll keep trying with it no matter how many Helldivers it costs.
The best part of his videos is his laugh. I always look forward to this 🤣. Your witty coverage of this game is hilarious!
I feel like this weapon would be good for taking out the chaff bots first so they cant call in a bot drop then killing heavies with something else
Every sucker crying "omg only good for 1 enemyyy!" should read your comment. also good for softening up big bug hordes

My main point was meant to poke at the idea that I (and many divers i feel) don´t like fire tornados
It is a cluster bomb. It is for crowd clearing, not heavy death.
I wish more helldivers content creators edited their content
Doode its supposed to shoot Schrapsel wich is used against crowds of umarmend Infanterie not armored targets. jut because it looks like a standard rpg ist not intended to use it as such. also its called airburt, ur suposed to fire it over wals, trenches or next to cover to hit enemies indirectly who have no line of sigth to you.
While there are some minor spelling mistakes this is exactly what I have tried to tell people
Geez, it's a super AOE, medium damage weapon. Use it against swarms of weak bots and bug swarms. Don't bring it to high level bot missions. Yes, it was given to us on a bot planet, but it don't work well there.
Or, spam bot fortresses from a distance, idk.
Looks like it isn't an anti tank tool. Likely a huge AOE clearing tool like the cluster mine strike.
I was wrong and stupid. These blow up in proximity to yourself as soon as they are fired lol
This thing is going to SHRED bugs
It would have been better if it had an arming distance and a manual trigger release to detonate function
arming distance sure, trigger release hard no lol thats gonna get a lot more self kills than utility lol
@vincentdeluca4485 it doesnt have to be a trigger release. Just a button to trigger the detonation is fine
@@vincentdeluca4485 Not if you combine them. Put the arming delay just outside of danger close.
I’d rock this with the EAT for anti armor, and use this to delete bug breaches and bot drops.
What are you doing? It's an anti light weapon not an anti armor weapon. It's literally a cluster eagle in rocket form. _insert Think! meme here_
the airburst launcher has exploded in my face every time I have tried to use it.
This specifically would be a great pick for ANY Bug mission
@@vincentdeluca4485 there's much better options that wouldn't be such a threat to yourself and your team. You could use this against a distant patrol that you could've just avoided, but in an engagement with them heading straight for you? It will blow up in your face.
airburst weapons are not anti-armor weapons, they're anti-personel. This is something to use on large groups of light/medium enemeies not heavy armor
Thats what "Airburst" means, it detonates in the Air when it gets close to something
It's an anti-personnel weapon not an anti- armor
Don't care about these trash weapons, recoilless and expendable rl is still the best.
I just want land vehicle and the auto-cannon mechs.
Glad we didn’t get the anti tank mines
First shot when first called in trolls you. It’s good for clearing out light enemies, its a two man plan, throw in a stun, use it to delete the troopers and soldiers then your buddy comes in with heavy weapon and I/you through down a second stun if needed and help clean up.
It's for crowd control. Not that hard to figure out
I tested it out on both bugs and atomatoms and its better against the bugs.
Rules for firing it:
1. Do not shoot at anything less than 50 meters away
2. Do not fire downhill
This is going to S tier in the team kill meta
“It explodes on me” 👀💀
By the looks of it directly hitting a target does little damage but if you hit with the splash it does a enormous amount of damage
This weapon have a place in my loadout 😈
Its proximity, so if you shoot it past somthing at your target. It will blow up as it passes the surrounding object.
Dang, did we get catfish by a stratagem 🤣
it needs a range buff
"Air burst" hint might be in the name , tried aiming over the target?
I think its job is to be long range area denial, additionally if fired at light air enemies it will evaporate them. It is not anti armor
It's gonna be a bug swarm clearing machine! Even on ground
Its gonna be a bug swarm clearing machine, even against shriekers
Its not made for AA, thats just a benifit on the side
Needs a minimum range to activate the explosion. Something like 25m
Think of the Airburst Rocket Launcher as a "little 380mm Cluster Rocket" and it will make sense for a cluster+380mm barrage enjoyer like me

Tbh i find this weapon really useful when ambushing enemies or when theres a bot drop and all of the enemies are concentrated in one spot
I think people haven’t figured out how to use it yet. The damage is from the starburst around it, not the center of the shot it seems, could be incredible for small mob horde clear
Almost feels like you need to fire it from a higher elevation. Being an air burst ita suppose to detonate above the ground for maximum carnage. It probably has an elevation trigger with a slight delay when firing to not instantly blow up on yourself, but the blast radius it bigger than the delay allows for.
i even oneshot a tank with it, but it is so inconsistent right now. if they fix the unpredictability, this could be a really good weapon.
