  • The prop no one asked for! Bill fixed his laser cutter and is feeling nostalgic for his favorite TV show from the 1990s, Highlander. That combination resulted in experiments with laser cutting stamps from a variety of materials to make the Duncan Macleod Antiques business card.

      I totally hate the 5th Gen FS Hobby laser. I support one of those at work and it's the most maintenance intensive machine and does really annoying things like cutting it's own air assist hose.
      We also have a FS 24x36 pro at work and it's great, although.. it didn't come with a built-in water flow sensor (instead relying on an external water alarm signal from a chiller) so I had to hack one in myself. Overall i'm happy with the mechanical build of the 24x36 pro. Retina engrave is awful though because you can't put cuts & engraves on at the sametime.
      At home I have a Shenhui SH-G350. (AKA 50W laser Ruida on ebay) I really like that machine! The linear motion system is built up like the FS Pro. All cables/air hoses are kept safe with a drag chain. I've hacked in a solid state relay to control the air assist pump automatically, which is a nice QOL upgrade for me. Also the machine is a lot less expensive (and in my opinion much better) than Full Spectrum's offerings. The software that comes with it RD Work lets you put engraves and cuts in the workspace at the same time, which i really like. On the downside the english translation of a lot of the options in RD Works is pretty difficult to decypher at times. A company called Lightburn has released basically a rebuild from scratch of RD Works that's much nicer to use and also allows you to do some of the camera-based tricks that you'd usually find on a Glowforge laser.

    I prefer not to ask what rectal use you made with it, thanks! :D
    But seriously, thank you for the video ; ) Looks like the balsa wood has too much density difference between the different type of fibers. Interesting to see how it reacted to the laser cutter. Can your laser engraver cut into softer metals like copper or aluminum? If it does then you'll have much better results using a soft sheet metal and backing the metal with wood so it stays flat. Then apply the ink to the metal with the rubber roller and press the paper on a thin piece of rubber or foam. You'll be able to get much finer detail on your prints.

    Why not just Laser Print this, as in to use a Laser (toner) Printer, since the output is on paper?

      That's also a great option! You can use a program like Adobe Illustrator to create a stamp effect. I like to try out different methods to achieve an effect!

      I actually saw the Clan MacLeod sword at Comic Con at the Prop Store booth a few years ago. Since then it was purchased by the Paul Allen family and put on display in the MoPop museum here in Seattle. I visit the sword often. It's displayed with Connor MacLeod's Scottish outfit next to Ramirez's outfit and sword.

      What about if you laser cut the wood (or maybe acrylic) without reversing or making a negative of it... and make that the bottom of mold box then do a thin silicone pour... Then you'd have a silicone stamp... Know what I mean Bill? That might make it easier to get all that tiny detail text without burning all around it and losing details....

  • @laforetsebastien1570
    @laforetsebastien1570 3 года назад

    or you could just use rubber-stamp designed for laser cutter... about 10 bucks for an A4 sheet. works very well. the MDF stamp are not useless : they can be used for embossing leather, and that's great, provided you engrave deep enough (might need 2 passes or even 3 depending on your laser power)
