    Thank you, very clear and works well. Only one tip: For me the InstallESD.dmg did not show up in disc utility initially. I had to unmount and remount for it to show up, so the instructions might be more full proof if you instruct to mount InstallESD.dmg after users have finished formatting their USB drive.

    It's the same result, it just ensures it doesn't have any hidden partitions on it so you're getting the most from it and so it doesn't confuse the system if you boot from it.

    One Mountain Lion is dangerous enough but you captured 10.8 Mountain Lions with just an 8Gb thumb drive? You sure are a super genius :)

  • @FunHarvey
    @FunHarvey 12 лет назад

    Yep. They way he told you to do it. You can not only do it for Mountain Lion but also for any other .dmg file.
    I think you know what a dmg file is but just in case its any file that opens up as a disk type thing on your computer once you download it. ANd it always is white with a black hardrive icon in the middle. :D

    Hit Option/Alt in the Mac App Store as you click "Purchases", it'll then let you redownload the installer so you can make a boot drive from it and back it up somewhere to save you downloading it again lol.

  • @fred7flinstone

    I don't think this works for fusion drive macs. Apparently the mountain lion installer on the app store does not work with fusion drive macs. Mountain Lion must be downloaded / installed from the recovery partition - at least that was my experience.

    After opening the Mountain Lion Installer.pkg, Contents contains no SharedSupport folder. So I cannot find a InstallESD.dmg.
    I assume you need this because the Mountain Lion Installer above is tied to the machine that downloaded the software?
    Or can I use the upper level Installer for upgrading a MBP from a Mac Mini Install pkg?
    Thanks,
