I want to re-add my perspective to the mix as a VoicePlay patron, fellow reactor, AND someone who has my own Patreon.
The clip itself was not problematic to me. Every reason Brad gave for justifying the clip, I agreed with. And also, each of those reasons are COMPLETELY irrelevant. It literally does not matter at all how justified the action is, *because it is not his decision to make*. It’s also not my decision to make, which is why the fact that I actually agree with Brad is equally irrelevant to this conversation.
The only singular point I was trying to make is that no one has the authority to green light the sharing of exclusive content EXCEPT the people who made the content. Full stop. The subject matter, the amount of time passed, it’s all completely irrelevant. The only people who can decide when exclusive content can be shared, is the creator themselves. No one else has that authority, no matter how justified.
I hope people are able to take this comment in the constructive and educational tone it is intended. I know it’s hard to receive tone over text, and I promise any animosity you might try to read is unintentional. And I also hope my comment does not get deleted, like every other critical comment did yesterday. Respect creators y’all. Peace and love 💙

I have to disagree. On social media there is no such thing as exclusive content. If you are saying something in front of a camera that is recording you and you choose to upload that content you have to assume that everyone can see it. Exclusive content is phrase that is put out by creators to entice the public to contribute to them monetarily and for fans of creators to feel like they are getting something special that not everyone else has. There is no privacy on the internet that is something for person to person conversations and relationships. If you post something assume that everyone can and will see it.

@@docholliday7959 “There’s no such thing as movie prices, because people can just pirate the movies online. Movie prices are just made up to entice people into spending money and make people feel like they’re getting content that other people aren’t”
^ That’s about as logical as your argument. Are people capable of reposting content? Yes, obviously. Does that mean that privacy doesn’t exist and that charging for content is pointless? No. And does the fact that people are physically capable of reposting content, mean that they have the right to? Absolutely not.

Brad, you're obviously a great guy - recognizing that you might have taken it too far with your replies to comments is awesome. It seems like you still don't get why the backlash came in so hard, though. I don't think most people were being toxic or Karens, as some commentors here have accused. For some context, there have been a lot of leaks from Patreon exclusive content into the public lately, stuff that VP never meant to go public, and so now some of the fans are jumping on those leaks. You posted that video at kind of a bad time. Honestly, when in doubt doing what you're doing now by asking the exclusive content holder's permission to post is just the right thing to do imo. Would you consider letting people know VP's response one way or the other? If they're cool with it being posted, that'll quiet the naysayers. If they're not then that would be instructive for anyone else looking to post similar kind of things.

In my opinion, Patreon content is intended to be exclusive to Patreon which is why you pay for it. If something is posted to a free/open social network (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, RUclips) then it is free to be shared to other social media sites. If people can share stuff from Patreon content freely then that is less incentive for others to join. Although your post may have only been a small clip, if anyone were allowed to share a "small clip" 90% of their content would no longer be Patreon exclusive.

The internet is a strange place. There are no set rules, only a sort of etiquette that almost everyone has their own definitions of anyway.
Personally, unless VP themselves ask you to remove that Patreon content, I would ignore the haters, they are probably jealous that you got a mention and they didn't. VP are really the only ones who have the right to ask that you remove it, only they hold the copyright, anyone else is just making a big issue of something that they probably don't even understand themselves.
Quite honestly, I would go pre-emptive and talk to VP, ask them if they would want you to remove it or not, then comply with their wishes, that would diffuse a lot of the comments immediately.
It's really so sad that people feel the need to lash out at others like this over such a trivial matter though, it really does show how sad this world is becoming.

what a mess. I saw yesterday's vid and thought it was fine.... except, from the way you presented it, I thought it was a recent endorsement, and it's not. That feels a little squishy to me in this fast-changing world. As a person listening to that, I would react differently thinking it was new (as I did) than if I'd known it was 2 years old. I don't know or pretend to know the ethical rules around this sort of thing, but I trust that you weren't trying to act inappropriately. Most people who commented about this on that video simply told him that he was not allowed to share Patreon content publicly. Only one or two got heated about it, the others just simply stated he wasn't allowed to do it.

Hey Brad! You know I love you ♥️ but ... you're beginning to sound somewhat like a politician, and I don't think that's a good thing. First of all, I watched your vid yesterday, and I liked it; based on the format, I figured it was from one of VP's patron web-chats, and I didn't even bother to check if VP had made it public or not. C'mon! it was just a clip, not the whole chat, anyway!
I don't see the need for you to apologize for it! I know you're growing your channel, but nobody can please everybody! If anything, the fact that you were attacked somehow shows you're becoming more of a celebrity in the reactors field, be proud, not apologetic! I think you need to be yourself, and do what you feel comfortable with, and not worry so much about what everybody thinks. Keep up the great work, and keep going!!

I think a Shout-out is cool. Being over a year from the posting in Patreon shouldn't be a problem unless stated otherwise. I see Patreon as a premium member connection for prerelease and behind-the-scenes information (of the moment). If you want to believe it is absolute exclussive archives for paying members only and not to be talked about to those "non-members" in society, well that would be a bummer. I think the artists are excited to express more to those who help them monitarily. I would think the trickle down affect would happen through Patreon members knowdgable comments so that things will be leaked. Some people might even feel the 'Need For Speed' to be the fist person to comment about some new information. I think this items context is about time. This is an much older subject matter. Should it have been just a comment stated by Brad instead of the actual clip? Sorry, I would be excited too and desire to post the actual truth rather than hinting at something not seen. So, let the replies roll in. I'll try to check in sometime next week.

So the rich were really upset that those peasants got to see something from a patreon posting? Reminds me of golf country club members.
I have the opposite reaction since it was a shout-out for you from one of the musical groups you cover and not even content sharing. I really doubt it was Voiceplay's intention that that be kept hush hush.
There was a similar thing with an on-line concert and meet & greet Avi Kaplan did in the middle of the pandemic lockdown when he could first get together with his band members again after months of quarantine. It had had alot of trouble with the original transmission and paying customers didn't even get to see what they had paid for. It was posted. Same complaint as with VP but an entire concert. It was taken down but now it is up again and all it does is serve as advertising for Avi and will be of interest to historians about adaptations to the pandemic in the future.
If you are upset with yourself about getting angry and expressing it that is reasonable for your values and profession. Not using a complement and endorsement from VP is not a result I think they intended when they first mentioned you. I mean the endorsement by Voiceplay is hardly the One Ring 💍 in the Lord of the Rings to "keep it secret, keep it safe" is it?

I mean yes but also no xD . It was a small clip where voiceplay were speaking about you yes sure it was from there patreon but not only is it from 2 years ago but it is also about you and by extension it is content made from your image they made content using you and your name which you uploaded on your channel which is making content from them . So while I understand why it's wrong I don't think it deserves this hate maybe yes you should have asked first but a minor clip from multiple years ago that is related to you isn't worth this level if argument and I doubt voiceplay being the kind loving funny generous people they are will be hurt or upset over someone how boosts there views

I thought it was awesome and didn't know it was 2 years old. I bet they would be fine with you sharing what you did. It would be totally understandable if they got mad at a patron sharing a brand new creation that is recent.

Patronage isn’t just about new releases. It’s about gaining enough trust to put all kinds of things out there that should not be shared without their express permission. Time elapsed is irrelevant.

I'll be honest. You're a hole lot nicer than I am. Don't get me wrong. I won't go out of my way to be hostile to people. But if someone says something ridiculous and stupid, I will be as savage to that person as I possibly can be with no remorse whatsoever. Although, I do try to combat dumb statements with logic and facts while I am roasting the commenters.

I did not see the posted clip nor the reactions, but I'm sorry you were jumped all over in a such bad way. There are, as is the case in all fandoms, some people who take it upon themselves to be nasty in comments and to make rude, even threatening, comments. Please ignore them. Yes, it's true that VoicePlay has said they don't want any of their Patreon content posted publicly, but a simple comment stating that is all that's needed. There's no reason for people to be so rude in the comments, and I'm very sorry that happened to you.

If you don't want something shared from social media don't say it while being recorded in front of a camera. There really isn't anything private when posting content on social media and if it's something you don't want shared then it's best left unsaid or done in a private person to person conversation.

Cancel culture. People are always trying to find something to complain about.
