Tai Sabaki No Kata - Yoseikan Hombu Dojo - Shizuoka Japan 1983

In this rare archive movie you can see Tai Sabaki No Kata demonstrated by Minoru Mochizuki sensei's direct students. Please enjoy soaking in the 80's atmosphere of this so famous dojo!
This kata is a nage waza and sutemi waza kata built on the basis of the 4 fundamental tai-sabaki done alternatively outside and inside the Use attack who executes 9 times oi-tsuki chudan. It finishes with O irimi senkai which is a large circular tai-sabaki.
This demonstration took place during a Yoseikan Aikido seminar in the Shizuoka Yoseikan Hombu dojo (1983). Minoru Mochizuki sensei headed this seminar organized for a French Tai-Jitsu group traveling in Japan with sensei Roland Hernaez.

Ce kata, créé par sensei Minoru Mochizuki est un kata de projections et sutemi construit sur la base des 4 tai-sabaki fondamentaux exécutés alternativement à l'extérieur, puis à l'intérieur de l'attaque de uke qui exécute 9 fois oi tsuki chudan. Il se termine par O Irimi senkai qui est un large tai sabaki circulaire.
Cette démonstration s'est déroulée durant un stage d'Aikido Yoseikan au Hombu Dojo de Shizuoka (1983). Sensei Minoru Mochizuki a dirigé ce stage organisé pour un groupe français de Tai-Jitsu voyageant au Japon avec sensei Roland Hernaez.

For those who don't know too much about Mochizuki sensei's yoseikan, this kata presents the five major tai sabaki (stepping, footwork, or Body Management techniques), nagashi, hiraki, irimi, irimi senkai and o irimi, each done to the outside of the attack, then to the inside of the attack with an example of a throwing technique (including some sutemi waza) for each method (one for inside and one for outside- soto and uchi). The last tai sabaki, o irimi, has no "uchi (inside) form, only soto (outside). So there are nine techniques in all.
These kihon tai sabaki are the foundation of Mochizuki sensei's aikido. Each takes the defender out of the line of attack but stays close enough to the attacker to enable immediate, powerful counter techniques. An important kata for understanding the mind of the meijin of aikido.
