Hi Nolan, You can do what you want with the 3hp shaper in 2 passes. I have a delta 3hp shaper. Try using bits from amana or bits from whitehead. Those bits are extremely sharp and last a long time. Also try using shaper cutter heads. Good luck with your new toy.
Once you get over the fear of using this machine, it will open doors you didn't even know were there! Just wait till you do a large radius piece with a profile on a bearing, like a serpentine front. One addition you might want to look into, a power feeder. They get your hands away from the cutters and actually give better results than pushing by hand. Safety wise, feed wheels are way cheaper than any hospital visit!
@@NolanBuilt With that size of shaper, at least 1/4 HP. 1/2 HP would be better. You might want to look at the newer style with variable speed. Way easier to dial in the feed rate to get the best cut vs burning (which is way bad on shaper cutters). They are more money but unless you are doing crazy amounts production, it will last a lifetime.
Why not use the featherboards? They're there. They add safety and prevent lifting?
Oh I use them now!
Awesome tool man! Congrats on the new tool! Love seeing your shop come together! Thanks for sharing and continuing to move my goal line....lol
Lol 😅thanks Justin. I’m going keep trying to move it lol gotta keep growing!

Thanks Nick!

Thank you Markell! I’ll have to try it out one day. I really want to get a power feeder for it too.
@@NolanBuiltI put a Steph 4-wheel on mine. Can’t beat it
How is the noise level on this machine. What is louder...the machine or the bit cutting the wood?
Definitely the bit when undernload or cutting. The machine isn’t really all that loud especially with dust collection running right beside it too.
Wait so can it take 1/2" and 1/4" router bits?
Yes you just change the collets

Yea I’ve been looking at power feeders! I’ve been trying to decide on what size to get

@@moldings_etc thanks Dustin! That’s just the info I needed.
Wait till you try some shaper cutters instead of router bits…
Yea I’m looking forward to it
Bro just watch some RUclips videos on how to use this machine safely but keep up the good work
Hot pancakes! I may be needing one! Or two lol
I can already see that I need two more!
Great Video. Awesome to see your progress with your videos.
