    Jump to 4:15 if you want to hear some technical differences between these cameras beside their body/cosmetics.

    Great video! What I am looking for is a camera that works well for street photography and takes crisp, sharp looking landscape photos. Should I go for the A7r or a7II?

      When you shoot landscapes the more megapixels you have the better the picture.

    People talk about Sony a7r In shutter noise and camera shake, but tests with the Canon 5dmk3 shutter body shake was twice as bad as the a7r!

  • @tomservo51

    How do they compare in low light/high ISO situations?
    I assume the 2 is much better?

    • @Jason_Hermann

      Joseph Wright Same sensor, so no the II is not much better. Software has made it a little better, but hardware is ultimately the limitation in this regard...

    When testing shutter sound, lift cameras of the table, especially if your microphone is sitting on the same surface.

      Very good call and I will re-do that test for the full A7II review! The camera I was recording with was on a tri-pod off the floor, but the table totally acted like an amplifier basically.
      Thanks again for the feedback/ suggestion ObelixCMM ;)

      You should clarify which one you mean.

    • @Jason_Hermann

      The SEL1635Z lens is killer so far. One weird thing is how the zoom is backwards though. 16mm is when the lens is at it's longest, and 35mm is when the lens is at it's smallest. The rotation is therefore opposite to zoom-in or out. Really weird at first, but I got used to it already pretty much. Build quality to weight ratio is excellent and the lens weighs less than I thought it would. I need to do more testing on the lens to check corner sharpness,distortion, and fringing fully. So far it's razor sharp and looks killer though honestly!

    • @ClaudioVidalDias
      @ClaudioVidalDias 10 лет назад +1

      Deni Dedic I figured there wasn't a need. It's the lens on the video, the other is a Canon 17-40mm, plus the 16-35 is native to the Sony A7 line and was just released but I'll be sure to clarify in the future!

      ***** Excellent, interesting quirk I wasn't aware about! Hoping to pick one up along with an A9 when it is released in a few months!

    Do you think there will be an a7r mk2 as I would love image stabilisation in the a7r

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  10 лет назад

      Yes I do think a higher resolution model will come out at some point. Not sure if it will be a 7 or 9 though first. Could be drastically difference in price points possible. Not sure what Sony will do when.

    Guys I need help here. Currently I sold my canon T3i and I am selling my 70d. I like what's I saw on all the reviews. But I just don't know which one to buy.
    what I am looking for.
    1. A fast and good focus system full-because of my kids
    2. Detail in my image
    3. Full frame system
    The a7r has the detail in image covered but the shutter being louder in my only concern. Is it loader than canon shutter?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  9 лет назад +2

      +Goodlife LifeGood The original A7r is not good enough AF for moving kids. The newer A7r II is a much better option in that regard. Otherwise the A6000 would have the best fastest AF but is not full frame. The A7 II is pretty good af, but not like a DSLR that you came from. They are very fast in comparison due to the huge dedicated phase detection af system and mirror. If you really want that from Sony, the A99 although older would be best full frame option for AF performance. The A77 II would be the best APS-C sensor sized camera for fast af.
      Detail wise the A7r is great, but better for landscape use than family fun in my opinion. The A7 II has a 24mp sensor and has great detail. The A7r II is 42mp sensor and significantly better detail. Do you really need that though? Printing larger than 8x10 inch ever? Need to crop a ton for some reason? If not, then 24mp A7 II should be enough for almost anything. You want the best, the A7r Mark II is the way to go.
      I hope that helps,
      Jay

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  7 лет назад +1

      It certainly has some significant advantages over the A7r and is better in a number of ways. The sensor is only 24mp vs 36mp on the a7r though if that matters to you? Camera 5-axis stabilization and a new better camera body design are the two main advantages I would say!

    • @EviEhvee
      @EviEhvee 8 лет назад +2

      I think the a7ii looks more premium. The build looks and feels stronger and the finish of the material is really nice compared to the a7r. But the a7rii is better than both as far as software and hardware combonation

    The whole point of mirrorless is a smaller camera. The A7ii is about the same size as a Rebel DSLR, defeats the purpose.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  9 лет назад +4

      +Michael Bell The camera is certainly getting larger, but don't forget it's full frame. The rebel is APS-C crop factor and much smaller sensor. Also no sensor stabilization.. I do hear ya though and the A7r II is even heavier and closer to a DSLR in weight. Still not near the size of my Canon 5d Mark II though ;)
