    Easy enough to "turn sunlight into a liquid fuel" if we just rely on Photosynthesis and Kelp or other regionally appropriate forms of macroalgae, plenty of space for cultivation available for every nations needs.
    And while making the Pyrolytic Oil based fuels, we can also be providing Smallholder farms and larger Agribusiness with an abundant supply of Biochar to amend their fields so as to reduce water usage by up to 50% and cut fertilizer runoff by up to 80% as a handy co-function of this shift in thinking about our energy needs.

    Problem is... the description with the football field thing isn't exactly accurate for what the system that would be capable of doing that would look like... you've got only sunlight going in and the solar fuel going out... no other ins or outs. That's saying the field is turning sunlight (energy) into fuel (matter), and if we would find the way to do that, fuel would be the least of the marvels we could make.
    What I'm thinking could work is having a fuel in a liquid state, of preferably low viscosity, go through a collector-type of installation, get changed on a chemical level by sunlight, probably becoming volatile and highly flammable, then moved away. Then, through burning this fuel, the only byproduct having to be the original, "uncharged" liquid. Kind of like a reverse electrolysis (use energy to break water into oxygen and hydrogen then burn the hydrogen to make water again, but this makes less energy than it consumes) where you use (solar) energy to re-bind the chemicals while using the burning to break them apart, then collect the reaction products and put them back through the system.... My knowledge of chemistry is rather limited but there HAS to be a way...

    • @beyond6storm
      @beyond6storm 7 лет назад +1

      think burning hydrogen... it only produces water.... but hydrogen is dangerous on its own, and although our reserves of the stuff are virtually unlimited (oceans, and besides, we'd break water apart then burn the hydrogen and make water again, so it's not like we're losing any water on the way) actually obtaining hydrogen is a process that consumes energy itself...

  • @MladenGavric
    @MladenGavric 7 лет назад

    I think that the only real solution here would be (for this idea to actually work) to invent some sort of fuel that, when "burned", would not create carbon dioxide or any other toxic/greenhouse gas. Otherwise just go "solar" (meaning sun to electric energy), even tho it's way less efficient (for now).

    • @sebastiangeorge9252
      @sebastiangeorge9252 7 лет назад +1

      Might not necessarily be the case. If solar energy is used to produce a fuel using CO2 from the atmosphere, and burning it simply returns that CO2 to the atmosphere, then the process as a whole is carbon neutral. Also, we already have fuel cell cars that run off of hydrogen and oxygen and produce only water, so it doesn't even need to be invented, it's already here!

    • @MladenGavric
      @MladenGavric 7 лет назад

      I totally agree Sebastian! But, as you have said, ONLY if no additional CO2 is produced. I think that we are coming to end of an era of fossil fuel consumption for sever reasons: we're running out of it, by using it we're warming our planet and causing all sorts of troubles, sustainable energy is clean, sustainable energy is and will be even more cheaper to produce. The sooner it ends (fossil fuel consumption) the sooner we evolve as a civilization.

    • @DeaPeaJay
      @DeaPeaJay 7 лет назад

      You think CO2 is toxic? You do know it's vital to every form of life on Earth right?

    • @MladenGavric
      @MladenGavric 7 лет назад

      Sir..
      Really don't want to offend anyone, but have you not seen the words "greenhouse gas" after slash sign? And to answer your question: Yes, in fact, I do know that. But to educate you a bit more, since you clearly misunderstood me: burning fossil fuel produces NOT ONLY carbon dioxide, but OTHER TOXIC gasses/chemicals. If you want me I can elaborate on that even further, but I don't see the point. Just keep in mind that you are not talking a kid, but well educated man.
      And as I said before, I'm not trying to offend you.
      Have a nice day! ;)

    • @DeaPeaJay
      @DeaPeaJay 7 лет назад +1

      Understood. Thanks for the clarification. I'm all for bringing down toxic gasses. But most of the alarm I'm seeing is about man made co2 emissions. But I can't seem to find out a definitive "settled science" answer about how much of a factor man made co2 emissions are contributing to climate projections. Bill Nye said it was 100%, but that's clearly crazy since the climate would change with or without us here.
