Every job has negative sides. The negative sides they left out is that not all people will agree with your changes and improvements as an IE. Many people actually do not like change in a company, such as following new or extra procedures or memorizing a new process or location for something. It is tough getting everyone on the same page. I am an Industrial Engineer.
yes IEs can work in banks. Im personally an IE that worked for two years in HSBC bank. Given that i joined a leadership development program right after graduation i was exposed to different areas such as frauds, corporate real estate and global markets among others. IEs can be employed in most areas because of their ability to understand both business and technical terms. I personally enjoyed my stay at the sales and trading room up to the point that i decided to pursue financial engineering
Thanks for making this video - it is fantastic!!! I never knew this was a career field. Ha! This is GREAT! I have naturally done system analysis/application improvement my whole life and for every job (from 7th grade food preparer to career Exec Admin) and never understood why no one else did, it is so natural for me. Thanks for the knowledge that this skill is a respected career - there is a PURPOSE for my craziness. Back to school it is ..just need to figure out how to pay for it all.
Great video, thanks! As an industrial engineer myself I find this sort of videos very, very helpful to clear some misconceptions people (even HR personnel) have in respect to industrial engineering and engineers in general. Following.
I have a question for you IE's: When working on a single project, are you working with other industrial engineers as well? Like when you go out to ask factory workers questions/or when you gather data from surveys or something, are you the only one doing it, or are you a part of a team of industrial engineers helping you out?
@JustSomeEngineer: Thanks for your advice, it helps! Here's mine from 8 yrs in Admin: keep track of the money you save employers. May be hard to start but it’s totally worth it. And CRUCIAL for "proving" how you add value to the company (or could..;) Plus, if you have a passion for this stuff, you'll do it anyway, and there WILL be successes you can add to your repertoire. For example, my plain-jane-admin resume reveals that I've saved $19K hard cost in just 3 years.
...Continued2@JustSomeEngineer: Potential soft cost labor saved = $52,000 - $176,000 by setting up clear systems, which achieved an average savings of 10 minutes a day per employee. And I was the RECEPTIONIST at the time, NOT AN ENGINEER. So you have a great advantage, just keep track of it all. It adds up. Plus - what about taking a few courses and earn a minor on the side? Even one course a semester (ABET accredited) would be a great addition to your resume/skill set/marketability.
How do Industrial Engineers get into Healthcare?? I'm currently pursing my Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering and would really love working for Healthcare. The help will be much appreciated, thank you!
Good day ... I'm Spanish speaking and I think a very interesting video, but for academic purposes I require the translation of it, I would greatly appreciate those who can work with the text of the video, ie whether the subtitles in English or Spanish, since the youtube subtitles are very bad.
Continued @JustSomeEngineer: I never dreamed I could do that! So don’t sell yourself short - show them what you can do! Also keep track of soft cost - don't put it on a resume but it's good info to build up your accomplishments and add confidence in abilities. Example - in soft cost I have saved a company 10 minutes a day of productivity time, per employee. This comes to 43 hours per employee per year...
I'm so proud of myself, because I'm a senior college student by the major Industrial Engineering. I gotta question and I need somebody to benefit me about it. Could IE's work in banks? If yes, please tell me the benefits for an Industrial Engineer to work in banks. Also, I wanna know the benefits that the IE could work in the airlines. What IE's could do in the airlines? Like what are their advantages in working at the airlines? No further questions. By the way, nice video.
@iLOVENATURE2011 lol i know i have experience in that field, industrial experience is absolutely SHIT WHAT YOU SEE IS NOT WHAT YOU DO! TAKE FROM SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE!! believe me theyre not cool.

IEs are needed in any industry. most just don't appreciate that yet. I hope now is the time for IEs to rise to their well-deserved position.
