    Thanks.
    Someone should make an upload summarizing the different SOCs in use on SBCs right now. I'm casually curious about what is out there. Not enough to attempt researching it in depth myself though. Not that I'm lazy, I'm just focused on other projects ATM.
    I only have a Pi3 and quickly realized it's not very interesting to a simple hardware hobbyist like me without a full datasheet. My interests are mostly outdated 8b uC and analogue hardware related anyways. I looked up the NanoPi4 recently with it's RK3399. I had passively assumed most SOCs would be like the Pi's Broadcom with an NDA datasheet. I was delighted to see a real datasheet, but the NanoPi4 price point is slightly out of my casual experimentation budget and is much closer to a project specific kind of thing. Are there any SBC's with Pi3 or better power, with a full datasheet, and a Pi3 or under price point?
    BTW, I'm not specifically asking MM to research this or in any way asking MM to make some specific content. I assume several YT CC's and other enthusiasts are checking out this channel, and these awesome uploads summarizing all the current hardware options like I am :)
    Thanks for the upload.
    -Jake

    Benchmarks for DDR3 vs DDR4 on sbc's with same soc would be interesting, though pointless quite possibly I must admit.

    I purchased the ESP32-CAM from Seeeeeeeed (while "in stock") , but they ran out of stock. EVENTUALLY, they responded to my email and said they don't know when it will be back in stock, offered me a refund! I said I'll wait. Website states, "The unfilled orders will be shipped out in two batches: 2nd Nov. & 9th Nov", so I asked, you will send my order on the 9th? They say, "We will ship out before Nov-12"??
    I reckon it was suppressed to be "with camera connector", so they are not making much profit selling it "with camera"!

    What's wrong with that phone kit? Can you get something off the shelf cheaper?

    • @MickMake
      @MickMake  6 лет назад +1

      From the perspective of hacking a phone and having a lot of fun - it's great and wouldn't mind getting one, but for cheap phones - there's this: www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/650547/optus-x-play-3g
      And I managed to pick up three of them at AU$29 each because of mis-labelling.

      I was considering the makerphone because I love a kit and I like to support this kind of thing but since there is no longer a GSM network in Australia I'll pass.

    • @clangerbasher
      @clangerbasher 6 лет назад +1

      We are going to need kits like this in the future if we are going to want to access the phone network without Android or Apple. The novelty of mobile phones for me wore off in 1997. I am not going to carry around a data collection device. :)

    • @AbeDillon
      @AbeDillon 6 лет назад

      First of all: the cheapest esp-01 I can find anywhere is $1.69.
      Secondly, this chip has more RAM and flash than an 8266 as well as other features that the 8266 lacks (hardware accelerated encryption, watchdog, etc.)
      Finally, for most people the price and performance differences are essentially negligible. The real questions are: can they build a useful ecosystem and community (probably not)? and/or is the feature-set different enough to make it useful for any specific application (probably not)?
      Otherwise, it seems like saying: I won't buy lead paint chips because Lays are 10% cheaper and more delicious. It just seems like there are more obvious concerns to base your decision upon...
