About 7 yrs ago I got to meet the guys in Evergrey at a show in Chicago Ill and got to tell Henrik what a huge influence he was/is on my playing. He was so genuine and we chatted for quite some time. It was a dream come true for me. Tom, Jona, Rikard and Johan were just as kind and we chatted about their influences, gear, etc. Took a few pics as well. This band has done it for me since The Dark Discovery. Just an incredible band that every person on the planet should know about. Cannot wait to listen to the new album Theories of Emptiness on Friday! Thank you Evergrey and we will miss you Jonas.
Just want to repeat a couple of statements echoing around the chat here - Evergrey are a seriously underrated band. So much so, it is crazy. They have 14 albums, all varying from classic prog gothic atmospheric metal, to the downtuned anthems we have on the recent albums. Henrik is a ridiculously underrated guitarist.
Yeah I totally agree, I think the reason why they are so underrated are because they are hard to define in the sea of metal genres, they are a mix of a lot of different stuff.
@@Echoes- I think their last few albums would appeal to fans of Alter Bridge sized choruses. Downtuned anthems with huge riffs and superb solos. That massive wall of sound with Gothic atmosphere from the Keyboards and Tom's mournful melodies. Alter Bridge and Katatonia. 👍 Their earlier albums are more progressive, dark gothic metal. Riffs that fans of Metallica would like, with some Symphonic Metal influences, and a sense of sorrow and doom that evokes Paradise Lost. They've got something for everyone!! But as you said, maybe they are a hard band to put into one category for a spacific audience as their albums are very varied. That though is a good thing!🤘
The best way to learn guitar is not to play every note of a riff. Just feel it at first and than go step by step. I had that feeling in 1984.. when I heard the first time Maidens "the trooper" Bought that vinylrecord and started the main notes of the rythm notes on my first nylon string acoustic guitar...with a plec of course :))) Then history went on! Today the people whatch youtube how it should be played. Believe me ...50% is wrong of there teaching.

Henrik is the man! The guys who influenced him did the same for me, and now he's furthered my playing.
So good to hear and see Henrik playing these “classic” riffs !
