Thank you very much for this one. I have been eye-ing this one and was looking for insight on whether to go ahead. Your review was very positive. I really enjoyed hearing your experience with it. --------- In regard to price, I appreciate the way you put things. If you're going to go good stuff, go all in. ---------- In regard to the ABV (and this is not a knock on you but just hearing a lot of reviews from various people on various whiskys)...my question is - Are you drinking the whisky to get drunk or are you drinking to enjoy the experience. If you enjoy the experience, then that's good. If the whisky lacked and "needed" the extra 3-6% ABV to substantiate it...or it was a big enough whisky to where the extra ABV would have positively impacted...that's worth noting. I wish reviewers would note things like that.
Your bar looks fantastic! Love that still too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. Sounded just fantastic. Still, that price tag is hard for me to lift. Maybe once the kids are through college! Take care!
Nice review, good to see a lengthy focus on the liquid in the glass and not another distillery rant! I think I’m going to bust out my 2021 Rare Cask for Thanksgiving and pair it up with the Rare Cask Black, which I thought was astounding, with a ludicrously long Christmas Pudding finish.
Thanks for the review Mark! I have a bottle, but haven’t opened it yet. My favourite bottle to date is the Macallan 25, but given the price, I love trying bottles that can bring back a memory of it. Sounds like this may be a contender. I was told that this one should be very comparable to the Ruby.
Hi Glen! Wow I can’t even fathom Mac 25. The best Mac I had to date save the abv! I bet tons of old Mac fans wish they grabbed some Ruby…myself included!🤣 let us talk soon!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Mark that was a great detailed review of a bottling that I was serious about looking for. The price of this is more here at about $450 , and I would love to replace my bow near empty Ruby with something like this. Indeed if it was higher abv and more naturally presented it would shine even brighter! Great stuff, thanks Mark!!
have you tried the glenlivet 25? I checked and it's $400 plus tax where you live. A bit more expensive than this one, but people rave about it. Plus it comes in a gorgeous wooden housing.
Tobacco is always nice to find. Older Mac 12 was less woody and all about the gummy worms with a little water added. Love that A’Bunadh and Glendronach 18. Reviews of both in the back issues! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Nicely done, generous review, thank you-but how do you feel about lack of age statement? And despite how tasty it is, I wonder if too much of the high price goes toward the overpackaging and weighted cork, rather than to the liquid inside.
Hi Taylor, and thanks! For sure I’d like it to have an age statement or rather a list of all casks that went into the vatting - of course that isn’t allowed. Given that this is a better whisky and that it’s less expensive than Mac 18 which isn’t adorned - I’d say not much of the price goes to the stopper. I’m ok with it on a $400 dollar bottle. The biggest issue I have is the low ABV in this case, but it is still a superb malt and far eclipses the old Macallan 12 which I loved and puts newer Macallan 18 to shame. Cheers and welcome🥃🥃🥃🥃
For me only the editions(RIP) and now this one and maybe classic cut are worth it… For sure, I’m back in Korea every year! Next year I’ll be there with my family as my kids miss their Halmoni and Imo and friends. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Great review, and love the new setup! I've had a couple of the original Rare Cask bottlings; although great whiskey, the low ABV and lack of age statement make it difficult to justify the price. How would you compare the Rare Cask against any of the classic cuts that are less than half its price?
Hi Denny! Thanks so much. It will evolve and improve! Lucky you, I think the original Rare Cask was superb. I had only a taste. Great question. In fact I have the 2020 Classic Cut as well. It is tasty, but doesn’t hold a candle to Rare Cask, or even the older 12 Sherry, for me. That said I prefer Classic Cut to the new 12 Sherry and the current 18’s! I’m curious of the new 15 double cask. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
So there are these countries in Northern Europe, collectively called Scandinavia, where approximately 30 million people live. Perhaps they can relate, along with people like me, whose roots, food, and family culture come from the region. My mother’s side is Ukrainian so you may find some tasting notes based on that part of my food culture. Lastly, having lived in Korea for almost half my life and being married to a Korean, you’ll find a plethora of tasting notes based on Korean food. You may know the common adage “write about what you know”, which also applies here. I can only make references to the foods I eat. I hope you can find a channel with a creator who eats only the foods you do! Glædelig Yul og Godt Nytår!
This was a next-level review, you've made this one definitely sound worth investigating, sounds like it'll take you on a real journey! Gorge!
Thanks brother, the real deal for sure! The old 12’s plus 3 to 10 years of maturation!
Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃

Wohooo 🥳 Finally, a man sized Macallan! Love your new studio, Mark. Congrats!! Great review as usual. Cheers buddy🥂
Thanks Krishna! Watch for the studio transformation!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃

Thanks Jon! And that’s my smaller one too😇
If not for the event I wouldn’t have gotten it but wow!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃

Thanks Matt. Excellent, that Black is special and I only had a taste. Happy Thanksgiving! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Big score Mark. Looking forward to seeing the evolution of your new set up. Cheers mate.
Thanks Al! Score wise only 3 points more than old Mac 12 but those are unobtainium now!!
Cheers brother🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
Cheers, Mark! I, like a lot of malt heads have been disappointed with modern macs, sounds like this one is worth a look.
I’m almost in that boat too! New Mac 12 is too expensive and way too oaky. The 18 is a ridiculous price!!
🥃🥃🥃🥃Cheers Mark good to see you buddy.

Sometimes I time it right!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃

Hi Tasin! Yes, I have! It is quite nice - though they was 7 years ago. Will have to try again! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
@@WhiskyWhistle going by memory, would you say it's worth the price tag?
I see the price here is actually pretty good comparatively! I’d say, yes, for people who love the effects of age! 🥃🥃🥃🥃
I felt those gummy bears with Aberlour Abunnadh but not with Glendronach 18, in this one I felt some tobacco.

I said farewell already to macallan but, it was nice review. Yes, they still makes good stuff... Thank you for remember Korea also.

This is the kind of guy I would like to do some lines of coke with
You do that and I’ll drink Rare Cask! On you.🤣

@@WhiskyWhistle lmfao I’m just trolling of course😹 cheers 🥂
$400 CAD is more than I have ever spent on any one bottle... I would be reluctant to grab a bottle of this.
FQ! Usually my budget as well! I lucked out haha.
Cheers brother🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃
when I grow up, I want to be just like Mark!
This guy….cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
I would do something to the microphone too
You bet! It’s new so still figuring it out!

You lost me at Scandinavian desert. No one can relate to that.
