Thank for recommending a buff to protect the head from chafing. I am going to do that! Just unboxed mine which I am going to use for the Sedona Cayon 125miler in 2 weeks. It's heavier than my other ones, and more than I expected but I needed the battery power. Gonna wear it around the house to get used to the wt. This was helpful - ty!

Great review, very well done and comprehensive. What made me decide not to get this headlamp when it came out was the drop-offs for nearly all output levels. I don't mind to have a drop-off on turbo as maintaining that kind of output constantly would drain the battery too quickly and it probably wouldn't be thermally sustainable. Having drop-offs on the lower levels though, as you said, it's just a way to stretch the truth. I still have several older Fenix headlamps and they are well regulated maintaining brightness levels till the battery can't sustain it anymore. Fenix will be releasing a HM65R-T V2 in 2024 but judging by the stated runtimes it will probably have drop-offs like the current model.

    Thanks for a good review!
I ordered "this" headlamp (actually the hm65r superraptor v2) because it has an overhead strap.
I love the low amount features, a heavyweight reason for this lamp was the dual buttons to choose which kind of light I want. I'd wish it had a memory setting so I don't have to scroll through brightness settings.
From what I read I'll probably grind off the plastic that covers the buttons and possibly replace/cover the plastic bracket with leather for comfort.
Lots and lots of reading/watching to reach this headlamp. Found some I liked more but they had significant downsides/tradeoffs.
    Thanks again for reviewing this

No problem, I hope it works out well. The plastic piece is honestly not that bad, I hardly notice it. Overall since this video I've kept on using it and still love it. My main negative is still the weight, but it's so darn bright that it's a worthy trade off.

I've received and have been using it for awhile now, and I'm extremely pleased. Turns out it also remembers previous settings, so I really can't see any downsides. Weight isn't an issue (with the overhead strap on superraptor)

I guess you can't change the angle of the light. I'm not a runner, probably useless feature for runners. I have an HM61r, with it you can remove the lamp from the headband and stick it to metal objects or you can rotate it so you can point the light beam at what you're working on (more comfortable than bending your neck).

You can rotate the light and remove it from the headband!

You can change the angle. I have one of these for trail running in the mountains and I use this torch on a regular basis.

What setting do you typically use? And how’s your battery lasted? I have this headlamp and typically use high flood and low spotlight, but will have 2 bars down (50-70%) battery indicator only after 2 hour run.

I didn't, I just had it bundled up in my hand. Not sure if it's possible to remove it, which is kind of odd. I've never really needed to swap a band or take the headlamp off, but I like to at least have the option lol.

Why do you have to say the full name and letters of this lamp every 20 seconds, we know you are on about the lamp you have in your hand, so irritating had to look for another video
