The problem there is that the fans do not own these franchises. These insidious ideologues sieze the means of production however they can. @@GhettoFabulousLorch The localizers don't own them either. There are lawsuits that have happened because localizers did their own thing and rights to franchizes have been lost. The actual companies, funnimation/crunchyroll/etc will only act when their bottomline gets fucked. The localizer is effectively scoring out the writers work and putting their own over it, and they are not good writers. They are making the characters and setting they are localizing appear inconsistent and scatter brained when theyll suddenly espout communist/capitalist talking points in a fantasy setting with kings and peasants etc. this stuff is just flat out bad writing, someone understanding in subs compared to dubs may have an entirely different cast of character based on the changes that were made to what they talk about and say and how they say it etc. They are not just translating they are putting themselves in the writers seat. Theyve made themselves replaceable by AI, not even on cost, because it will actually do what its suppose to be doing, which is just translate.
The one time localiser would work is in stupid movies like Rise of Skywalker. “Some how Palpatine returns” To “Ayo, Palpatine got revived y’all” “They fly now” To “Lmao my nga be high af” Would at least make the movie watchable.
The "changing your body" comment makes sense because they're literal shape-shifters, but also dragons storage their capacity to breathe fire on the booba, and Lucoa is a huge, monster, goddess's dragonness so she can breathe fire like none, so no matter the shape, she'll always be stacked. This concept is shown how funny it can get when Faf-kun tried to write a cursing manual masked as a manga and Lucoa is made to contort herself to show the effects of the curse, if you, person reading, don't understand how this was done in the anime, you should watch it.
Thanks to the second season of Dragon Maid, we see that transformation magic isn't accurate all the time. Ilulu demonstrates that lack of magic control is why she lacks human hands at the start and why her chest is big. Then it can be applied to others since Ilulu was insisting using gender bending magic on Kaboyashi. Which I bet the length of it lasting is dependent on magic control. Then Lucoa shows off how advanced her magic control is with the curse scene you brought up. Tldr: Dragons can do a lot with magic if they're proficient.
Yeah because its about control and division. Culture is something that brings people together so destroying it is an effective tool to get large groups of society to distrust others. Caring about anime localization also makes us look crazy to normies which makes it easier to do the "le gamers are -ist and -phobic" framing to prop themselves up. Localizers would be changing their tune if we took out their politics from what little media they create. Problem is, that would make the woke shows either tolerable or at least mediocre - as in neither good nor bad, just average.
"Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." Ya'll remember 4Kids? The only thing they really dub nowadays is Yu-Gi-Oh! and that's only because Konami thought their almost Abridged level translations were funny and bought them out. Honestly I miss the days of 4Kids, all their localized theme songs were absolutely iconic. But they reaped what they sowed and all that.
That comparison exactly. The 4kidz One Piece dub is the optime of bad localization. So bad they changed parts of the story and skipped an important part that's needed later. It was so bad that it was not as popular in the west initially like Naruto or Bleach was. I was tricked also until I saw the sub version years later. The changes were downright insulting, like removing all the text from books and stuff because the old fart of a ceo thought kids couldn't read.
@@CRIMI0N Ah you sweet summer children. The 4Kids One Piece dub was very bad but lemme tell ya' there was worse in the past. Battle of the Planets literally added in Western animation of the team travelling through space and some random robot character they just made up in order to claim the show, which takes place entirely on Earth, took place on other planets. They also replaced one character's dialogue with random noises. Captain Harlock and the Queen of One Thousand Years look two unrelated Leiji Matsumoto shows with two different levels of technology, slammed them together, and then had to make up the entire script without translating a single word because they were only given two days to dub each episode. Voltron...has nothing to do with the original Go Lion. They are VERY different shows. I know I'm going back to the OLD old days, but man...4Kids was downright RESPECTFUL compared to what came before! They thought they held a speck of power, had fans of the series follow them as well, attended conventions they were invited to and regularly spoke from a podium to a mass of dorky, awkward people which all made them feel superior, the seeping contempt and arrogance when faced with even the slightest of opposition is just the tip of the iceberg. They feel entitled to the status and fandom, it's their perceived fiefdoms and it has to be ruled with a divine purpose that strengthens them and them alone. It really lays bare the ugly nature of these people.
Activists of any stripe cannot help themselves. Where a sensible person sets themselves practical limits, these people simply cannot keep from going full throttle with their activism for all to see. And yes, they are very scared about AI. That's why they're spewing such toxic and false quotes on social media. Someone else here said that "Only the small dog barks excessively." And these narcissistic nut-jobs are yapping away like chihuahuas with hemorrhoids.
They don’t translate properly because they are on a power-trip. Rewriting works that pass through their hands is how they exercise it, and smothering those who oppose them is an extension of that power, which allows them to hold onto it.
She gave a trudeu answer or no answer. Because is current year. The following is to always ask. "what do you mean with that, explain" Never go until they are forced to explain their nonsense. I would call her transphobic.
Why wouldn't you leave? The moment you hear an answer like that the only sane reaction is to in insane asylum and explain the situation "this patient is clearly delusional please take her to the infirmary"
Ya’ know, with classic localization blunders from the ‘90s the changes were at least understandable when thinking about it from the company’s point of view. “American kids won’t know what onigiri are, and if we just translate it they’re going to be confused why Brock is so excited over rice balls. What’s something that kids like that looks kinda similar? Jelly donuts!” “Parents won’t be happy if their seven-year-old daughters ask what lesbians are, so let’s make Sailors Neptune and Uranus cousins.” You can’t always simply translate the words, there’s cultural differences to consider. But this is just… adding a new message to the text that wasn’t there before, for no reason other than to spread your ideology. It’s like if I, as a Christian, made the line “I was reading in St. Paul’s epistles how women are supposed to dress modestly, and felt God telling me I needed to repent and make myself right with Him.”
5:35 "unnecessary hate" the absolute arrogance. Not only she is invalidating the consumer opinion, this implies "necessary hate", she sees hate as a useful tool, but only when used by her side.
The AI is going to destroy the lolcowlizers jobs like the Terminator. Also, please keep talking about those lolcowlizers because they need to be exposed.
My fear for A.I. Is that it’s actually I.A. (Intelligent algorithms). That it will push propaganda/agendas even faster and more frequently. Corporations that use it can gaslight even further by telling consumers that A.I. Is just smarter than you and won’t take complaints because there’s not one person to take accountability. Just like any woke individual of today.
Tbh, my problem aren't localizers by themselves. But political localizers, I'll explain myself. My native language is Spanish and i always had to watch shows, movies and anime in spanish dub or subtitles, and in the shows there is usually some sort of localization, but it is always a mexican modism or trying to adjust a joke that involves wordplay. There are videos called "doblajes perrones" that shows a bit of this. Also another great example of this spanish localization is found on the Simpsons. Ask any latinoamerican and they still enjoy the old simpsons and make jokes and memes about it because the dub job was superb.
Dont forget that even in the old Mexican dub also there were added stuff but those additions made the dub better in the context of the show. For example, the DBZ dub line on the cell saga on an inner monologue of Vegeta: "No solo se robo mis celulas tambien mis dialogos!" -> "He didnt just stole my cells but also my lines!". Its a 4th wall joke but considering Vegetas massive ego it was not out of character.
I thought the joke was that dragons, being reptiles, don't have boobs and just have them big in human form because of some misunderstanding of human culture.
I think the Japanese would be highly motivated to get AI translating into English. And the Japanese need to do it, entirely remove the middle-men. Think of the money you could make Japan - without having to pay American companies a cut. Do it. DO IT.
This is like ordering a burger and getting a fish sandwich instead, and when you ask for your order to be fixed, you get belittled and yelled by the staff in the counter.
I visited one of the English VA Jamie Mariachi and I couldn't believe the replies she made that she's in the right. The nerve she had was unprofessional.
Note: the first dialogue change was NOT many years ago; it's a scene from the second season of 'Dragon Maid', which was localized in the West in late 2021.
It started long before then. I forget at this point there was a kids anime about ghost where they dub in kids in Japan ragging on Republicans and saying they are just as evil as the evil spirit they looking for.

So what exactly does "I have a v*****, deal with it." have to do with the argument or question asked? We're talking about genuine criticism of translation "errors" ("" for obvious reasons as it's not really an error) and has nothing what so ever to do with you being a man or woman nor your personality. I don't care how funny you believe you are. I understand this is a fan event and not an interview but it makes you wonder whether they actually understand why people provide criticism. It is not to insult you but SELF IMPROVEMENT! I feel like these people get constant pats on the back and it makes them so useless in a creative field. If I ever get around to finishing my own creative work I want people to be critical about all parts of it so that I can improve on the next one. Obviously ignore any criticism being offensive or that offers nothing of substance but in most cases everyone providing criticism is only trying to help you to make something or yourself better.
They were taught critical theory which is all about undermining civilization not to improve things when they criticise someone or something they approach it with this goal in mind they probably assume that everyone else is just as bad as they are
In my experience of fansubs there are very few real subbers left. Most seem to just rip them off of corporations and claim them as their own as if they subbed them themselves. Gone are the days of real fansubbers with their liner notes to explain things that are japanese in the show at the end or beginning of the show.
You didn't show the part of the clip where she calls people who disagree with her Not Z's and how she doesn't want people who disagree with her political views as fans.
Boycott, I recall better day's when funimation was just getting started it had flaws, but yes that arrogance is insolent. A.I.'s have been ready, real artist will alway's survive if their art is of service to humanity, an A.I. can only imitate humanities greatest achievements, but with no soul, at best they are a collective of glorified calculator's that can't handle profound variables.
AI translation could lead to electronic personal translators becoming more ubiquitous, which would be a boon for all of mankind. The technology is already mostly there. These localizers are literally in the way of true progress and their ignorance of what is truly at stake as well as their inability to stop it is satisfying.
Individualism taken to the extreme. It's all about them and their believes, the integrity of original work be damned. They criticize colonialism while colonizing other cultures at every turn. They advocate for diversity while trying to shape other cultures to fit their narrow standards. They exhibit human failings so egregious it reshapes the contemporary transhumanism debate. People used to hate MTLs with fervor. Now they envision a world where machines preserve human cultures better than humans do. It won't stop at localization, every avenue of cultural exchange will be exploited.
Translation AI will make the world a better place, just look at how important the UT was in Star Trek. It and the Transporter literally made the show possible.
I don't want "normal" but i don't want this hell either 😂 their message isnt ready for mainstream, it needed more time in the counter-culture pressure-cooker before being served to the masses. It's raw, it stinks, and it's making me sick.

I'm with ya on this one, Vee. Their job was _important._ That's why, when people noticed the obviously slipshod manner in which the work was being done, they _noticed_ it. That's why the original _mangaka really noticed it_ as did their publishers. That's why the publishers finally took action, and invoked the use of AI to replace these feckless Phoebes with something that would not inject memes, gen-z slang, mention of "da patriarchy" where none existed in the original text, etc. My first inclination if any of these so-called "localizers" seeks sympathy from me will be to show them where sympathy lies in the dictionary...
My closest thing to sympathy I will offer them is a coding guide that teaches the reader improperly on a system like temple OS
@@RomanvonUngernSternbergnrmfvus That's far more merciful than what I'd do. I'd just laugh at them as they go broke and tell them to eat dirt and pound sand. People don't change too much beyond a certain point but when faced with being out of the streets in San Francisco or the such, there might be a 1-2 of them *maximum* who *might, just might* actually grow a god damn 50th of a braincell.
Nah i would tell them that McD. its hireing .
"The customer is always right". People need to re-learn that stuff again so hard! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The primary lesson to have been learned through the years is to stop letting people into your fandom that don't care about the material.
The problem there is that the fans do not own these franchises. These insidious ideologues sieze the means of production however they can.
The best response is for the fans to turn their backs on these demons and deny them revenue. The fans should create original works that capture the spirit of what they loved and found escapism in. Give to each other and receive more than we can imagine.
@@GhettoFabulousLorch The localizers don't own them either. There are lawsuits that have happened because localizers did their own thing and rights to franchizes have been lost. Fans should inform the actual creators when shit like this happens, ONLY PIRATE localized media if they absolutely have to watch their inferior product and ONLY BUY japanese releases of products to support the actual creators. The actual companies, funnimation/crunchyroll/etc will only act when their bottomline gets fucked. If they find people avoiding their service they will first try to go after pirating, and when they realize that doesn't work they will deal with the issue which is the localizers.
The problem is some fans wanting everyone and anyone to be in it and who call others gatekeepers and shaming them.
@@nuke2099 This is true, although would things change if more people who are enjoy anime/manga, bring up to the IP owners in Japan about what American localizers are doing?
@@Natsukashii-Records Crunchyroll has a monopoly. They're the only distributor in the US. If they want their creations in the US market, they have to go through them. Sure you'll get hardcore fans pirating, but it won't get the audience that going through Crunchyroll will get them. If shows like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia had only been available through backdoor means, they would never have reached the level of fame they have which directly impacts their sales. Merch sells would be pitiful. The fans can not gatekeep what they do not control. Basically your way means it dies because it destroys the market. The only thing that can be done is these Japanese studios do it themselves. That's up to them, not the fans.

Its like if at the end of Lord of the Rings, instead of Aragorn saying "you bow to noone" he instead says "everyone stans a short king".

Ya'll remember 4Kids?
They feel entitled to the status and fandom, it's their perceived fiefdoms and it has to be ruled with a divine purpose that strengthens them and them alone. It really lays bare the ugly nature of these people.
"Localizer" should have kep their heads down and basically stayed slightly different translators. I hope they are scared of ai translations coming.

@@АндрейНеугодников-м6е Then why you ask?. You did not receive and answer.
Master ziemma said it best:"It sounds to me like you think everyone else should behave by your personal moral code. " Fairy Tail episode 166.

Corporations that use it can gaslight even further by telling consumers that A.I. Is just smarter than you and won’t take complaints because there’s not one person to take accountability. Just like any woke individual of today.
When Japan showed they don't do woke BS ... suddenly a wild localizer came ... and translated the game to be woke ...
At this point, the Japanese need to sue these localizers for intentionally destroying their art.
@phyrexian_dude4645 Oh yeah, i forgot about that one! Hell, i remember bursting into laughter the first time i heard that.

I think the Japanese would be highly motivated to get AI translating into English. And the Japanese need to do it, entirely remove the middle-men. Think of the money you could make Japan - without having to pay American companies a cut. Do it. DO IT.
