Larkin Poe was the girl's great, great, great, great grandfather who was Edgar Allen Poe's cousin. They are from Calhoun, Georgia which is not far from Atlanta. Rebecca and Megan are multi instrumentalist that takes them back to bluegrass playing with a third sister, The Lovell Sisters. Larkin Poe has two guys in the band, very talented also, playing drums and bass. Their new album, Venom and Faith debuted at number one (I think) on the blues chart. I can tell you they are incredibly good, I have seen them three times.
An adition to that could be that they are really good at doing both originals and covers, without the backing of bass and drums. Just the idea of making a cover of "In The Air Tonight" only using a slide guitar, makes Rebecca and Megan stand out. 😎
So my idea that the name sounded like something from a Dickens novel wasn't far off. A similar era I guess. Thanks for the info. I'll be checking out some more.
@@CrowboroughGuitarTuition You were on target with your thought of where their name was derived. I wanted to tell you of Rebecca and Megan's RUclips channel called "Tip of the Hat". It is a home(bedroom) setting where they play some very good and well arranged covers. They play a variety of songs that showcases their amazing talent.
Great rec! I really liked that / them. Seems "refreshing" indeed! And I love the picking, old school. Makes me pine for the good ol' days of bluesy country and rock. Need more of this!
It's actually interesting to see the number of views on this channel, The Warning videos vs. the others. It may be the result of the Villarreal family very early realized that they needed didicated fans to help them getting the wheels rolling. It not like Larking Poe do not have fans, because most of the gigs on their tour have been sold out. It's probably more the result of The Warning trying to make a very close relation to the fans. But Larkin Poe's series of "bedroom" covers are also briliant marketing, that make a lot of new people find them. One of those homemade videos actually got them on tour with Bob Seger. Never underestimate the power in a GOOD cover. 🙂
@@westmus I am a huge fan of The Warning also, it is very interesting that the trio of sisters have classical music training. The talent is just amazing and both bands are definitely crowd pleasers.
James Jenning, learning to play an instrument at a very young age are problably a great foundation for musical development. Rebecca said in an interview that she started on violin at the age of 3. It's fun how she rocks now on a electric guitar, with the knowledge that it's actually still a new instrument to her. Paul asked in the video " they are only two?" and yes on the last albums it's all produced and played by Rebecca and Megan. They play live as a two-piece band, or in the "big" setup with a hired bassist and drummer.
@@westmusYou are right. I see that these young !adies, with many others, are carrying the rock and blues torch into the future. I am so glad to have discovered them and been able to see some.
Good review. Ok, I really like Larkin Poe so I’m bias. For that reason I will focus on the interesting comment that as a musician you feel that without anyone to like in a certain genre it’s tough to get hooked and follow suit. Noted as 🤘🏼👍🏻
Great review again Paul Larkin Poe... in this video you’ll find the answer about the name and more about these two sisters ruclips.net/video/zAqeBFN4axA/видео.html

That sounds cool. Will definitely check that out.
I agree that Larkin Poe are refreshing. Blusy roots rock with a 21st century sound. Preachin' Blues is actualy a original blues from the 30s. 👍
A Sun House composition.

Some of their earlier stuff has a more bluegrass feel but is equally awesome.
Nice, wasn't sure what to expect. I enjoyed your reaction. MERRY CHRISTMAS, late.
Merry Christmas
jafquist27, fun fact: the story about Larkin Poe also starts with the 3 small sisters playing classical music. 😎

Nearly 100 year old Sun House song . Classic blues
Aloha Paul, now that it's been a couple years since you did this reaction, what do you think of Larkin Poe?
Rebecca and Megan Lovell are sisters and the future of the Blues.......for a Blues junkie like me, I couldn't be happier......

React to neon by john mayer, the live version
Lots of people keep saying this.
Could you do a brother a favour and react to "John Mayer - Aint no sunshine" its one of the greatest cover songs of all time in my opinion
That sounds really interesting. I love the song so it'd be cool to see what Mayer does with it.
Son House recorded this
Great review again Paul
