+Hannah desu That is correct. Pastel de Nata is the Portuguese name. English is egg tart, Cantonese - daan ta. These are delightfully delicious here in Macau.

JT Pin thank you very much! I recommend a return trip to Hong Kong considering accommodation options are a lot cheaper. I'd take the Turbo ferry early in the morning and return back to Hong Kong late in the evening. It only takes about one hour each way.
Great video. I'm exploring options for my short trip to HK.. and want a day visit to Macau. prefering the historical side of things. Looks like a great day. What are the best options for travelling to and from Hong Kong..? The high speed option looks best.
Thanks! Most definitely the high speed boat as it is affordable and gets you there fast. Also they run very frequently as well. The historic area of Macau is quite small so a full day would be enough to cover everything.
I'm convinced! I'll plan a day trip when I'm in Hong Kong. Can I use HKD in Macau? I just don't want to exchange money just to buy some food for one day.
+Tia Jasmin No need. HKD is widely accepted in Macau. Even HK residents don't bother trying to get MOP for weekend trips to Macau. If you do get MOP for change do make sure you spend it before leaving Macau as this is one of the least convertible currencies in the world.
haha treating some seasickness with spicy cup noodles does not sound like it'd work well for me xD tell me if that'll work though because I'll be going to Macau this summer! ps fun video btw
No. Egg tarts are Portuguese only! The originals are called pastel de Belen and are made in Belem (Lisbon). Other cafes in Portugal made them and they are called Pasteis de nata. These last ones are the ones sold all over the world. They have no other influence whatsoever.
Minutes 4:45-48 Those little tarts, the "pastéis de nata" (in English literally: "cream pastry") AREN'T AT ALL CHINESE INSPIRED! NOT A BIT! It's exclusively Portuguese! As a matter of fact, that pastry is the cheaper variant of the original "pastéis de Belém" that are exclusively produced in Belém, Lisbon, and have a secret recipe, originally produced in a nunnery! In order to "copy" that "Belém pastry" the "cream pastry" was invented. It's the cheaper variant with a recipe available to anyone! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS CHINESE IN THAT PASTRY! NO-THING!
Arnold Layne no. It's Portuguese. There's no influence whatsoever from other countries or cultures. The original pastel de Belem is made at one place only in Lisbon, they have the secret recipe for it. Only the head chef gets to know how they are made in total. Other cafes in Portugal make and sell a pastel de nata that is very close to the original and all around the world they sell that one pastel de nata. I make them at my house too and I don't say they are pastéis de nata with my influence lol
Just an opinion.... I'm sure others will like it. Just boring to me, maybe make the travel videos a little more exciting. I would take it as constructive not as an attack.
I lived in macau for 5 years and I'm going there for my summer vacation I'm so excited to go back there
+piponaana That's awesome to hear!
Thanks for the informative video! :) Macau is beautiful and fun and has a unique culture that embodies both Chinese and Portuguese influences.
***** thanks! Totally agree with you :)
We have those little egg pastries in England and they are called Egg custard tarts. They are so delicious and remind me of childhood picnics
Sophie Perham yum! Would love to try those :)
but its a portuguese tart called pastel de nata, rigth?
+Hannah desu That is correct. Pastel de Nata is the Portuguese name. English is egg tart, Cantonese - daan ta. These are delightfully delicious here in Macau.
+Hannah desu Called "Po-tat" in cantonese, short for Portguese Tart
I love your videos. Simple and so very interesting.
kevin krska thank you very much!

Tia Jasmin thanks! Yes, you can use them. Also, if you want to exchange you can always exchange back again on the ferry ride.
+Tia Jasmin No need. HKD is widely accepted in Macau. Even HK residents don't bother trying to get MOP for weekend trips to Macau. If you do get MOP for change do make sure you spend it before leaving Macau as this is one of the least convertible currencies in the world.

b00nsmoviesss Thank you! That's awesome!
the guy in the video, i assume ur name is samuel. i think u look a little like jesse in breaking bad, played by aaron paul.

haha treating some seasickness with spicy cup noodles does not sound like it'd work well for me xD tell me if that'll work though because I'll be going to Macau this summer!

+Traveler Very cool!
Egg tart???? made of eggs? Mixture of Portuguese and Macanese?
Yes, that is a good way of describing it :)
;-)

ok
Alice Cardoso thanks!
Everything there is very expensive
+Sun Sunny Heard from my parents eating out is basically not affordable.
Especially just a personal parking spot:D it can worth a little bit more than a lambo... Lol well depends on which area
Not the best idea to have an image of your passport floating around...
Good tip.

cool. can you guys speak chinese?
No, unfortunately not.
Nightmares come true, everything so flaky!
chicken is not the only one with the bad handwriting. Fish are the worst, even though they have fingers.
Lame! Made me fall asleep
Shouldn't you be thanking us for that? Sleep can be hard to come by some days.
