  • As US President Joe Biden was seeking to demonstrate his leadership qualities at the NATO summit, pressure is mounting on him to abandon his bid for re-election.
    A blow came from actor George Clooney, who is also one of the leading fundraisers for the Democrats. In the New York Times, Clooney wrote: "We're not going to win in November with this president [...] That's not just my opinion; that's the opinion of every senator, member of Congress and governor I've spoken to in private."
    But slowly, some of those opinions are making their way into public as well. Democratic Senator Peter Welch of Vermont has become the first senator to publicly call for President Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. And in a TV interview, former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to dodge the question of whether or not she backs Biden's candidacy. She said the decision was up to him.
    For more on this, we talk to Boris Vormann. He is a professor of political science and tells us how significant the pressure is on Joe Biden to drop his reelection bid.

    Is it too much to ask for a president under the age of 80? A country of 340,000,000 people with some of the most brilliant researchers, engineers, doctors, business titans etc….. and this is the best the two side can come up with?

      The U.S. president are all puppets to corporations. But this time THIS one cant even string two sentences together in a coherent manner. Biden is obviously a terrible embarrassment for all of U.S. ---- AND to the rest of the free democratic world actually. Even we in the EU are cringing every time we see this dinosaur speaking of things he dont understand ... As a European leader Biden would have been plain impossible.

      There must be hundreds of thousands of careered professionals from the foreign service, or other institutions that actually contribute to the day to day workings of the country besides senators, servicemen, or business moguls. People for whom while the presidency is a greater responsibility but not wholly uncharted territory.

    If he had said a year ago he wasn't going to seek another term, he would've gone down in history as an important president.. Maybe not good, maybe not great, but certainly not terrible... Now we all have to watch this crazy old man trying for no reason other than his own ego, to stay in the most powerful position in the world. It is beyond pathetic, the old man needs to step aside.

    Could someone in the media please demand an answer from Jake Sullivan and Donald Trump, about their controversial positions on Ukraine? For example; If the USA were invaded and under constant missile attack by a powerful enemy, 1. Would Sullivan refuse to launch missiles at the enemy launch sites in fear of escalation? and 2. Would Trump be willing to hand over Alaska and the state of California as a trade-off for peace????

    The US can't have a national primary that quickly.
    There's two periods of voting a year, and the next is for president.
    It'll be dicey to do it now.
    It's ridiculous that they didn't do this before the primary.

    • @MalfosRanger
      @MalfosRanger 19 дней назад

      So because it should have been done earlier the best thing to do now is nothing? As someone who isn't a democrat, if the party thinks something is the right thing to do then how about they do it rather than whinging about it. The handwringing is not endearing to independents.
      In short, we don't give a damn about what is good for any party's prospects. Don't pretend to care about the country's future if it comes second to maintaining political blocs. No one should just vote red or vote blue all their life.

  • @kva7922046

    The most powerful thing in any election is incumbency.
    One of the keys of winning an election is to make sure the party is unified behind a candidate. Ted Kennedy's primary challenge gave us Reagan. Replacing a candidate with less than 4 months who hasn't campaigned will be a disaster that leads to a Trump victory.
    Also: First.

    • @ADPalF
      @ADPalF 19 дней назад

      I mean in the many many elections done in the past two years around the world, we can see that incumbents aren't thriving.
      In addition to that, Joe Biden isn't a popular president outside of his base and he has not been one for years now. In his youth he might have been able to go out there and win the majority of americans back over. Now when he goes out he looks exhausted, sounds confused, and continues to make gaffes only genuine true believers can look past. His campaign really is stuck running on just hoping people are too scared of Donald Trump to stay home.
      And without Covid on everyone's minds, I don't think nearly as many Americans are that scared of Trump.

      It would be a good idea for you to find out how the US election system works. Biden stepping down now means he wouldn't even be on the ballot in all 50 states. It's a recipe for fascism to win here, and that will not be a good thing for Europe.
      Also look up what happened at the 1968 Democratic Convention and the result of that. We don't need a repeat.
