Still pretty crap, since full system updates only last for 2 years.
@@waldamy personally I don't have an issue with that. It's not like the difference between Android 15 and Android 16 will show drastic changes. On top of that, there are lots of people who barely keep their phones for more than 3 years. Be it because of the worn out battery, damaged screens and what have you. So definitely not a dealbreaker for me

I'm glad you mentioned the over processed photos from the Zenfone 10. Asus needs to be critiqued about it because the hardware is very capable. Try output to a RAW file and you'll see that the Asus software is a big let down. Tbf, I'm on a Zenfone 9, but I don't think the 10 is much different. On my 9, I installed some modded Gcam apks that do a lot less sharpening and produce shots that are significantly less artificial than the Asus software.
Yeah I’ve sent them a note about the processing. Needs to be toned down and hopefully they push out an update.

Can't one use 3rd party camera software?
I would shoot in RAW/DNG and process myself. I am sure in 80 % of the situations on camera post processing would be just fine, unless I am going to print posters out of it.

Pixel 8 series chipsets made by Samsung unfortunately the heating and battery draining issues will be transferred to future models
Stay far away from Pixel. The camera is literally the ONLY thing going for it.
Currently using pixel 5 and it's doing ok but no more guaranteed updates post October. It's the modem that I'm questioning on the tensor, no good having this wonderful device and no signal.
No real Samsung / Pixel Alternative has 512 GB, only 256 GB and no SD Card. Just the Xperia 5 with a sd card for memory freaks 🧐
@TheHDStation camera, 7 year support, ip68, and best screen in it's price range. But yeah processor sucks, the only good thing about it is that it is stable.

I really wanted this phone when I needed to upgrade from my broken one but was out of stock though after careful consideration due to the 2 year software updates I decided to go with Pixel 7.
If Asus had added 2 more years to make it 4 years of updates I think I would've considered it. Hopefully when they go with the follow up (zenfone 11?)
My only gripe with this phone is that Asus provided a selfie and an ultrawide camera with no auto-focus, unlike the Zenfone 9. The auto-focus capability on the selfie takes perfectly detailed selfies and the auto-focus capability on the ultrawide camera provides macro photography. Without auto-focus is literally a letdown.

I'm watching this on my ZenFone 10 and I really have to say, the camera is a bummer, but the rest of the phone is really great. I've never seen a phone as smooth and fast as this one. The software is great and really customizable. the 2 year support is a bummer too, but I don't really mind that, because I don't need all the new features comming out in the future, you could even say I am sad because none of these newer phones run oxygen os 11. I'd rather switch to an old oneplus phone then to a new samsung or any other android. But not the ZenFone 10. It really is a great phone. I stumbled uppon videos of LL Techview, who tried the gcam on a ZenFone 9 and it worked like magic. He got significant better photos, just because he skipped the processing part of Asus. I know that there is going to be a version for the 10 too, so don't mis out on this phone just because of the camera.
I only take photos on special occassions with my love ones. Sounds like this camera being basic is good enough for me. I like that the battery of Zenfone10 is more than Samsung S23 base with 16 GB RAM. Hopefully this phone can handle Genshin Impact.
@@EpisodeAnon27 The camera may be basic for now, but that will change very soon! I got the 16 GB and the phone handles the games with real ease. I'm not going to try you game, but there maybe videos on youtube of someone who did. I think it will handle that game with pure ease too. For battery, I charge up to 80% for keeping the quality of the battery. With heavy gaming troughout the day, I still could not kill the phone. With the gcam coming out soon, this phone is a 10/10 for me.
@knooi Is it like with Samsung where I have the control to limit the charging capacity of the phone up to 85% (less than a hundred) to protect the battery from overcharging? I use Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra in 12GB RAM / 256 GB. I'm getting tired of having a huge and heavy phone this is why I'm eyeing for Zenfone 10. The bigger battery from S23 base, 16GB RAM/ 512 GB really caught my attention for Zenfone 10. Two years of Android Update is alright to me as long as the security updates will last for 3-4 years. (Heard Zenfone 10 will have 4 years of security patch updates).

This 1 is the honest reviews i have ever seen about the zenfone 10 i also watch MKBH and david2d and more reviewers, but they did not told about the cons of the cameras like its only super stablize in 1080p not in 4k come on ASUS it is 2024, so this great video, thanks Mark for this👈

I was considering this phone then i saw the results of the camera and changed my mind. Also, at this price, I want a telephoto lens.
Yeah I wish it could be better but the 2x and up to 4x honestly with their AI processing isn’t terrible considering it doesn’t have a dedicated tele lens but yeah, would be nice to have an actual tele

Asus just added Wireless Charging! I was expecting a brighter and symmetrical display and better cameras. Asus crushed my hope with the Zenfone 10. Let's see if Asus get serious with the next Zenfone 11.
Asus is shutting down Zenfone department - hence does not look like there will be a Zenfone 11. Unless they say anything else, chances are Zenfone 10 is the last of the Zenfone line

How do you get squared app icon? Did you use Nova Launcher?
I was scared to get this because of the camera but google's camera app solves the issue.
Apparently all the shitty processing happens in the Asus camera app that comes with the phone and if you just download the google camera apk you get pixel camera processing. Not sure if this works on the appstore one I downloaded some cracked version that makes the camera app think that my phone is a pixel.
Should do a review of the camera with the google camera app instead, night and day difference for this phone 100% (also probably good content since you can compare asus camera app photos vs google camera app photos for this phone.
Does it have over-heating problems cuz I had some with the zenbook 14 and some peeps on the internet are saying it over heats.
I’ve had my iPhone XR for 6 years and wanted to move to android for this but the 2 year updates have really put me off.
Really just don't care about a camera. Headphone jack, and Ldac is what gets me. I've pre-ordered the US release... 🤞

Which launcher are you using?
Not a fan how they removes the AF of the front and wide angle camera. If i could i would buy the ZF9 with only the wireless charging pad and new back with no other change

I really liked the zenfone10, I wanted it. But the camera... that was just the deal breaker for me. So I bought a discounted Pixel 7 instead.
How bad were they actually? Have you tried using gcam?
I don't understand the 6 or 7 hour screen on time thing . There's a video of that phone against s23, 24, pixel 8 and iPhone 15 pro. It performs the battery drain test with 27 hours.

It feels the same if not slightly better than Zenfone 9. About on par with Pixel 7 imo.

I still don't get the announcement on Jun 29th and we still can't buy the phone in US. I'm already considering other phones and losing interest despite being excited at launch. It's marketing 101 that apple and samsung have nailed. Also, does it have 3 years or 4 years of security updates? Few others mentioned 4 years but maybe im wrong. If it's 4 years, then its pretty good right? Security updates and individual app updates are much more important than the OS updates which barely changes much anyway? Or am I wrong? From what I've heard from Asus internally this phone's getting 3 years, but that could easily change when this actually comes out next month (Sept). I'm also not sure why they announced this so early!! So confusing for buyers.

Used Lawnchair as my main launcher. Similar to Pixel devices. Pretty good launcher alt to Nova
Do you use the launcher on Zen10? I can't setup stock android on Zen10 like your phone :(
I'm using Lawnchair as my launcher but you can also use Nova if you'd like.
will the camera processing be fixed in software updates do you think?
I sure hope so! Usually, OEM's will push out updates a few months after its release to further optimize camera quality, so fingers crossed!

Incredible phone. Only thing I didn't like about it was the camera. Felt like too much of a downgrade coming from a Pixel 7.
Oh definitely feels like a downgrade on the camera front. But like I said if it’s not too much of a priority. The gains in performance, battery and extra features is really nice.
Nice that it has a headphone jack but more importantly does it have FM functionality?

the more logical thing to do with this phone is installing a gcam and you're good. Asus really needs to upgrade cameras/display tho, that chin is quite horrific lol. Nonetheless it's a great compact phone

Ironically I think the S23 has a better offering in some ways (camera setup, software support, overall size is even more compact), but I went with the Zenfone 10!
Reason I'd go with ZF10 is for the 512 GB and 16 GB ram version, nearly stock android, faster charging with power brick in the box. Better battery. I don't care as much about camera cause I don't do high level photography with my phone anyway. S23 has a great screen tho

1. Can you change the lockscreen / notification tray clock font to match the rest of the system? 2. Have you checked it's actually running above 60hz in apps? The Zenfone 9 only ran above 60hz in one app that I tried (Insta). All the rest ran 60hz.

Not that I experienced. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 no matter which phone I use tend to run cooler than previous chips.

pixel 7 battery is sub-par. I do photography and don't depend on a phone's camera to give me state-of the-art images. Yeah, it's not about the camera, it's about the eye behind the lens. Stop with the ranting about phone cameras. Give me a break! Appreciate your review.

Screen brightness is actually decent in the real world. Obviously not as bright as S23U or iPhone 14 Pro Max but definitely good enough for its price.

I would accept your complaint if there were no updates at all, but c'mon man, 2 years of os updates is better than any other not so known brand is giving, which is none at all.
I get what you're saying. I'm just saying, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE if they were in the same realm as Samsung/Google with 3 years or beyond of major OS update. This phone is terrific, and if I was the average consumer that sticks with a phone for multiple years, I'd want Android 17 running on this phone.
It's the exact same height as an iPhone 15... why that's considered "compact" is beyond me.
Hey man, when comparing sizes use some similar phones like s23 (not plus, not ultra) because this is just ridiculous :)
As someone wrote the biggest downside of zenfone 10 is that s22 exists other than that this is quite god phone :)

I have GCam on my Zenfone 9 and honestly I prefer the Zenfone's native camera. The quality is excellent. Unfortunately too many people have drunk the Google Pixel kool-aid and think "natural" is the best. It's not, otherwise there'd be no market for Photoshop.

It's surprising to me that 6-7 hours screen-on time on a small phone is considered great. My old Moto Z Play back in the day easily got 10 hours SOT and it was about as big as this little guy.
What keeps me from buying the Zenfone 10 though and which is not mentioned by all reviews I've watched is that it doesn't support esim. I have 2 esims in my phone and it would be quite the process for me to replace those with physical sim cards. Which I then have to carry around if I want to be able to use the accounts they're connected to. I definitely would've loved to see Asus add esim rather than wireless charging as the latter is too slow anyway. I prefer PPS charging over any other kind any day as it's super fast and it keeps the phone and battery cool.
Nowadays we have so many apps for so many services always taxing the battery. I have over 300 installed and only charge up to 80% cap. With 18-20% battery left I'll have 5-7 hours SOT. Not mindblowing but coming from my ageing OnePlus 7T Pro it's a breath of fresh air not to stress about going to sleep with 35% charge and be afraid of waking up with a dead phone.
Same here. Pretty much the only reason why I won't be buying it :(( Let's hope zepnone 11 will be esim compatible.
