Hi Montana and Ryan, having you guys and Kio in my prayers. I don't want to scare you both, but my dog had the same limp for quite some time. It wasn't as noticeable, but we thought it was super strange. She was completely normal though (eating fine, acting fine, being her normal self), but we would occasionally see the limp every now and then. About 5 months later, we noticed that she got to large lumps on her throat. We had no idea what it was. It felt pretty swollen, but again, we did not think anything of it. She kind of had a big neck to begin with, so we did not suspect anything. Plus, she was acting completely normal. Sometimes, they have said it is mucous glands that get backed up (which can be surgically removed), or it could be a possible lipoma. Again, she was acting completely normal. We never seen anything like this and was never suspecting anything, but a while after, she went completely blind. NOTHING WAS MAKING SENSE. First she has this limp, then months later she gets these two lumps on her neck, then a couple months later she goes completely blind out of nowhere. We took her to the vet immediately after she went blind and seen that her eyes swelled up really bad. Unfortunately, they told us that she had lymphoma. In lymphoma, all of the lymph nodes in your body become swollen, and one of those signs that is common in dogs is on the back of the legs. After they showed us, we did see a lump on her leg, but it was in the inside of her leg and was hardly noticeable (which is why we never thought anything of it). They mentioned we could put her through chemotherapy, but it seemed that the cancer was already fairly bad (metastasized), considering that she went blind (her eyes became super swollen almost bulging out), but we didn't want to put her to sleep. We gave her pain medication and a steroid prescribed by the vet and she took this for a while. She continued to eat fine, but again was completely blind. About two months later, she stopped having any appetite and she was suffering, so we had to make the hardest decision to put her to sleep. It was honestly the most devasting thing ever and we miss her so much. One week later, my 16-year-old dog passed away in her sleep. I honestly think it was from heartbreak :(. I felt as if she knew that my other dog was going through something and wanted to be there to comfort her. As soon as we put her down, I feel like my oldest dog felt like she was ready to go to heaven. I don't want to scare you both, but I just wanted to make you aware that if it can be treated early on, by all means do everything that you can. Of course, I would never wish this upon anyone and hope that Kio is okay. I just wanted to share my story with you because this was something completely unexpected for us. Prayers to your family 🙏❤💛
Oh poor boy! My Dunkel (German shepherd) was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at 4. He lived to be 11. We had to put him down suddenly about a year ago because his stomach flipped. If you can get your pups that surgery to pin their stomachs when they are being neutered or spayed you should do it. I know I will next time around. Miss my puppy so much but can’t wait for the next adventure with a new one someday. They really are the best dogs. Oh and we used to call our dog big buddy too.

German shepherds along with a lot of larger breed dogs are prone to hip dysplasia. It’s not the end for them and dogs are VERY STOIC! Fish oil, cosequin and chondroiton and possible they may give him a pain pill or inflammation pill. The other 2 are very good supplements to help keep the joints lubricated…. My Pyrenees lived for 10 yrs + with it he was born with it off the cuff. Bless him. And execercise like walking hills help him build the muscle around the joints as well. Just start off slow and build him up. That way he can build muscle to help support the joint better. Best of luck! I hope all goes well!!

You should ask if they can check his CLL (ACL for dogs) my girl I thought had hip dysplasia but she ended up tearing her ACL and meniscus resulting in her needing surgery. She was limping and lost muscle on that side.
