What I love too is that Gesicht's nightmares weren't about killing Adolf's brother - they were about when he adopted his kid. What his mind was trying to remember wasn't the loss and the hatred - it was the love. That was the part that was worth remembering and that a part of him was fighting to get back

Another small detail that makes Brau’s actions at the end even better is that he mentioned in an earlier episode that if the spear is removed from his chest he will die. And what does he use to destroy the super computer? The spear. He gave his own life to stop it.

It's so nice that we got an adaptation of an Urasawa work with great production value throughout the entire show and all completely succinct without any pacing issues, but man I'm still sad that it's already over.

There's no way a production committee would fund it. 20th century boys would take at least 75-100 episodes to properly adapt. There's just no way. It's too big a bite for anime producers

Something they changed that made me a bit annoyed was that in the manga, The president outright stated that the motivation to invade Persia was because he felt intimidated by Persia's Robot Revolution and advancement in that field and chose to thwart them.
Here in the anime, it's more of a vague "I want to keep my country safe" thing

Thank you for reacting to this total masterpiece and recognizing how incredible the whole story is. I know this anime is gonna fit right up your alleys seeing that you guys always have great discussions when it comes to analysis, breakdown, and coming up with theories and this really makes you think deeply. I love y'all were able to detect and understand every details in the show and be in tune with its emotional depth just as I did (at least you weren't bawling and sobbing continuously as I did almost every episode because of the heart-wrenching moments 😭💔). P in Pluto is Peak indeed!! 💯💥😍🤩💓💖

I really liked your reaction series, Pluto is one of my favourite manga and it gives a lot to think about so I liked that you put a lot of thought into your discussions. Even the Astro Boy arc it's based off, childish as it may be, is pretty interesting as a quasi-commentary on Cold War geopolitics (the robots are mostly nuclear-powered and can be fighters or peaceful, it's up to humans to decide if they want to use them to be the strongest in a destructive struggle or work towards building a better world), which Urasawa readapted to modern times, with new themes and more character depth. They're both those kind of stories where each time I look at them I see something new in them, and you were pretty good at picking a lot of themes up. If you're curious about seeing it, I'd say Astro Boy's manga is more what Pluto is based off of because the TV adaptations cut things or try to work it into a bigger series storyline like 2003's adaptation (the manga was kind of standalone). It's really interesting how Urasawa could read so much into characters with rater simple motives and who only lived for a few pages and flesh them out further, or out read something of a single panel you might not think much about otherwise.
One thing you noticed is how a lot of character designs and names are reused from Monster (some I think just look similar, but others are undeniable). I think this itself was a nod to Osamu Tezuka, who liked to reuse his characters in different roles like that, called the "Tezuka star system," he'd joke that it was like having actors play different roles in films. There's quite a few references to other Tezuka series throughout Pluto, like Black Jack, Phoenix, Adolf, and maybe others like Jungle Emperor Leo aka Kimba the White Lion (though I think that's a bit of a stretch), not to mention other Astro Boy stories. The man wrote a ton throughout his life and a lot of it is still being released in English.

    Headcanon for Pluto crying:
Sahad would have originally had the mechanical capacity to cry as a human-appearing robot. Sahad in Pluto is, not to put to fine a point on it, Going Through It. Some sub-subroutine of Sahad's personality identifies 'I need to cry now'. Initiates [Cry -> Fluid release from ocular sensors, mimic irregular breath, deprioritize all processing other than emotional/social] sub sub subroutine which finds no built-in fluid release in the head area, performs a workaround where some head/neck/jaw hydraulics purge fluids from the eyes, and also holds off the self-repair routine. Sahad/Pluto, along with all the emotional processing of hatred and all that has a minor [diagnostics: cause of hydraulic leakage?! Cause of slow self-repair?! Cause of combat deprioritization?! What is 'cry'?!] loop to distract and derail any remaining subroutines not yet fully under control by Sahad. Combat functions shut down, Sahad gains complete self-control. Commence star-gazing.

My personal head canon. Tenma warns his fellow scientists that something terrible will happen when robots can experience hatred, sorrow, fear and all the less noble emotions. Taking inspiration from Tenma, perhaps Goji designed Pluto's body to be capable of expressing all sorts of negative emotions, in order to encourage Sahad to lash out and become a killer.

    MAJOR SPOILERS for Pluto:
I think the reason Atom said Gesicht and Pluto are the same is that Atom felt hatred from Pluto, and the only other robot he felt hatred from is Gesicht when he exchanged memory chips with him in episode 2. Atom probably felt hatred from the Gesicht's memory, where Gesicht killed his child's murderer. This also explains why Atom went to the bathroom and cried in episode 2, since he saw that Gesicht lost his child.

If you guys would want to personally experience the Astroboy story, i would recomend the 2003 Astroboy adaptation, it's not only faithful in many aspects, but it also adds A LOT of original stuff that is not present in the main manga, while being a more series take on the series. The manga is great too, of course.
