I’m black but country music is in my soul. I love it, as I love black music. When I was a teenager I worked at a sewing factory one summer. They had country music running of a taped loop. I’m familiar with all of them. Then I got into selling records and learned about Mabel Carter and the Carter Singer, the pioneers

Bert, you certainly OUGHT to appreciate country music as a Black American! Black Americans and Scots-Irish immigrants (hillbillies) were by and large the creators of country music. In fact, the banjo was made by African slaves who based it on a traditional African instrument. I’m glad to see Black Americans coming back to CW music both listening and performing. I grew up on Charlie Pride, and Darius Rucker and Chapel Hart are FANTASTIC! Are you aware that up to a third of cowboys were freed slaves although movies and tv certainly don’t show it.

I had heard Johnny and June for a long time, when I Heard Anita Carter sing the first time, their was something about it, I can't explain, she had the most beautiful voice, I ever heard sing, their are so many great female legends, many classics, but every body please give a big hand to the beautiful and talented mother Maybelle cater and her 3 lovely and talented daughters, helen , June and Anita. Miss you guys

Helen Carter was the most prolific female songwriter and musician of the golden age of hillbilly music of the 50's. Her records were wonderful. Anita had the most wonderful angelic voice. She was dubbed "MIss Goosebump voice of 1950" and the "Appalachian Angel"

@natasha harford She's a great singer no doubt about it, but there were a lot of women singers, before she started!❤

I can’t believe Patsy Cline was only 30 when she died! What a short life she lived, but what an amazing legacy she left behind. She’s a legend in country music forever.

It’s strange that Patsy didn’t like or want to record most of her megahits. She didn't want to record “Walkin' After Midnight,” regarding it as just a pop song.
At first, she refused to record “Crazy” because she didn’t like sad songs, she didn’t like the new Nashville sound that was being produced then, and she certainly didn’t like the way Hugh Nelson wrote his songs with all of the chord, changes with major and minor 7ths that she didn’t think she could sing. (Hugh Nelson later changed his professional name to Willie Nelson.)
She detested "I Fall to Pieces" and had no interest in recording it. It was FAR too sad. She did not like the new tinky-clicky sound of the instrumental backing track that didn’t sound country enough. For example, young Floyd Cramer was the studio pianist with his unconventional piano sound. And she felt that her voice would be drowned out by the Jordanaires singing backing vocals (and who sang backing vocals for many Elvis songs). She said that she did not want her voice overpowered by a bunch of men. Compounding this, she was recovering from her car wreck and was seven months pregnant. Finally convinced by her producer, she recorded it - in one take.
We are fortunate that she had a husband and producer who were supportive , discerning, wise, persuasive, and persistent. Otherwise, we would not have these incredible songs that have been a wonderful part of the soundtrack of our lives.

Anne Murray was very much in the same category as John Denver: folk, country, pop. CW fans were slow to accept them.

I took a girlfriend to see The Statler Bros and Brenda Lee . Funny but I don't remember the tickets being over ten dollars and they were both headline acts at that time . My girlfriend loved them !
