The Carter Family is a traditional music group that recorded between 1927 & 1956. Their music had a profound impact on bluegrass, country, Southern Gospel, pop and rock musicians as well as on the U.S. folk revival of the 1960s. They were the first vocal group to become country music stars, and were the first group to record commercially produced country music in recorded history. Their first recordings were made in in 1927.
The original group consisted of A.P. Carter, Sara Carter, and Maybelle Carter. Maybelle was married to A.P.'s brother Ezra, Maybelle was also Sara's first cousin, Sara Carter sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar or autoharp; Maybelle sang harmony and played lead guitar.

Right there at the top of all the great female country music singers! And so very beautiful and sweet.
Wow. Just, wow. Well done, Joe!
Thank you Carter Family for memories to cherish 😍
It would have been better if these women were shown singing while in their younger years.
Dam you sing good.!..Love your music
In another era, she could have been a super star. So beautiful, and that VOICE!

Wish ole Hank could hear this ❤
I’m in Bristol…very cool city.
She's just outstanding. Seems so shy and demure at the beginning.
Helen Helen Helen!
What one is thinking while watching the video is the amount of talent that existed back then, but the Sound Technology did not exist. Today the Sound Technology exists, but there is very little talent or great song writing.
No way is. Dolly better than. Loretta
Couldn’t afford a fan , that woman fanning June
Robinson Kimberly Allen Linda Rodriguez Christopher
My favorite version of her doing this song. Her pitch is so good, she never gets swept off by the harmony if the others.
Wonderful ❤
Amen to all the loving comments!!! I was born in '47, and to this day, the joy only increases when I hear these heavenly icons grace the world with song. Particularly moved by Kitty Wells and Wanda Jackson, and there's noone like Dolly. Cheers to all the Carter Family, too. I grew up in NYC as a rocker and still am, but there's nothing like classic Country! Played rock for 40 years coast to coast, but nothing topped playing Americana on the internet on KFAT's successor, overall Radio, and my favorite artist of all time is Nanci Griffith, rest her soul....and God bless all the music freaks who lnow where the Good Country is!!!!!!!❤
Beautiful Song
This is totally awesome. Thank you, 😮 amazingly beautiful music 🎶 🎵
Skeeter Davis, such a beautiful voice, 😍 she's so beautiful
@@John-ws5oh thank you John, Skeeter really was the sweetest person everyone loved her
They lived what they sang
Wow...
Fantastic !! Two legends!
How sad! How could you not include Dottie West.
My mother was a pianist and knew a lot of these ladies. Ill never forget parties at our house with people who, I later learned were famous, didn't know it when i was little. Patsy Cline was a close friend.
Kind of curious who the lady is on the bass, i don't think she is one of the Carter sisters?
How beautiful love from India 👏🏼❤️🙏🏼
Poor Anita. Can't get a word in because of June!
Wonderful playing
Beautiful! ❤
💌
Mid 50's Anita Carter,,,,,,,,,,, woweewowwow !!
Listen for the 1st word from a child... Abba (Father) God).
This is the first song that I heard by the Original Carter Family. It was 1980 and I was 13 years old. The song was played on one of the bluegrass programs on WAMU broadcasting from the American University in Washington DC. I believe that Gary Henderson was the disc jockey. I was blown way and became an instant fan. I have been listening nd trying to play Carter Family music ever since.
Im here enjoying this awesome music 2024 why don't they play this anymore on the radio
June and Helen are really cute here
She continues, her music , singing for the LORD Anove!!!!!
They are so sweet together.
I don't know why people cut the wonderful introduction by Faron Young and the great comment Faron makes about Anita Carter's wonderful voice after she's done off the original video. Those great moments gives viewers insight from the golden age of the Grand Ole Opry. Anita Carter was a superstar singing "live" her whole life getting standing ovations before she was a teenager until she passed in 1999. Having started singing with her family when she was 4 years old Anita loved singing with her family her whole life. She never really broke away from her family to builds a solo career like a Kitty Wells, Loretta Lynn and such. Anita never chased Fame, Fame is still chasing Anita ! When she was 17 (1951) she paid for a home with the record sales of the duet record she did with Hank Snow so she had been part of a record that sold over a million records at that young age.
Holy-smoke, what an amazing performance. ❤❤❤
HOLY-SMOKE, what a wonderful performance. ❤️
