294: Haolonggood (好龙谷) Euoplocephalus Review (2024)

  • Haolongood once again comes up with another dinosaur that has been neglected for far too long. Euoplocephalus was my favourite ankylosaur growing up, and it still. I've been wanting one to update my Carnegie, and this one serves very nicely. As a lover of anatomy and of Euoplocephalus, there are a few 'inaccuracies', but it will actually make for a very accurate Scolosaurus, which is yet another interesting dinosaur.

    So glad to hear from you after a while, my dear sir. I seriously missed watching your videos. And I'm so sorry to hear that your Haolonggood Kosmoceratops and Edmontosaurus are missing. Thanks to careless customs, we missed two great reviews. I think it's the same in every country. But I'm glad to see that this amazing little Euoplocephalus is doing well in your dungeon. Even though Euoplocephalus is a well-known dinosaur, it doesn't have many figures. This is the only well-made figure, I think. So huge thanks to Haolonggood for giving us this. And I wonder who will give us a Saichania chulsanensis figure. Let's see. 😉Thank you for this wonderful review, my dear sir. You are the best.🖤

      Thank you for your generous words as always Rajitha! Well, this one is really a nice figure. I have to remind myself that little imperfections can't always be seen, and at this size really, it is the best representation we've had so far. Certainly, more so with the paint apps HLG gives its figures! I too, can't wait for a Saichania or Tarchia. I would love more Asian representations, but for that it seems like PNSO is giving that to us now.

    Interesting how very different my "pale" version looks from yours. The back on mine is a rich conker chestnut. Although it's just about the most light-sensitive model I have in terms of how the paint reacts - in brighter light as opposed to neutral light it looks so much paler and more yellow. I found it very difficult to photograph. By the way, I loved "clueless innocence" - you have quite a way with words!

      Yes indeed, I've mentioned a few times now that lighting makes a difference. A lot will depend on your own usual lighting conditions. If they look good to your eye, that's the most important thing that matters! 😊 I definitely know other Chinese collectors who have better painted ones though, so maybe I got the short end of the stick here.
      And thank you for your comment on words; I love languages and the way different ones can express certain ideas.😁

    It doesn't look like the Euplocephalus that I grew up with...I hope PNSO will make like those of the old books... it's still a cool figure though... definitely will be added in my collection..

      Thank you for your words; it's a heavy responsibility indeed! 🤣 But always keep in mind, that actual lighting makes a difference, and of course, there may be differences across copies. For example I think that I got the short straw when it comes to the yellow compared to some other people I know.

    Haolonggood keeps bringing new models non-stop😊 and I can't wait for their Gastonia, which is my favorite 😍 the PNSO 82 WUERHOSAURUS XILIN MODEL is next which Haolonggood has already done but it would be interesting to see if there is a size difference. I wonder which Mamenchisaurus model you got as your next review.

      Haha well you know the answer to that last by now!
      Gastonia is one of my wishlist ankylosaurs as well, since the only one I have is the huge Sideshow model! HLG is fast becoming my favourite supplier of overdue and wanted herbivores! 😁

      @DinosDragons I'm just waiting for them to release this Gastonia, but probably it will be one of their line up of Ceratopsian line up soon like their Einiosaurus or Diabloceratops. I already have the Diabloceratops by Xianyan Studio's but the Einiosaurus would be a welcome addition.

    OOOh a Euoplocephalus, I used to have a toy Euoplocephalus when I was about 5-8 years old and for years I mistook it for an Ankylosaurus until I got older and realised my mistake.
    (edit: I think my childhood toy of this dinosaur was from the Terra series by Battat)

    So far, all the in-hand pics I've seen of the orange one tend to have random, dark, blotchy paint applications. The paint just looks a little sloppier in general on the orange than the grey. The paint app on the tail club is also what I've seen... kind of haphazardly dry-brushed on top, and no added accents on the bottom. The lightened areas on the larger spikes look better on yours. Others I've seen don't look dry-brushed like yours, but more like some of the darker paint was scraped off! Anyway, great review and some very good science as always. I've already ordered the darker grey one. But I'm still considering getting the orange. I like what you said about how they look like a positive and negative of each other!

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 месяца назад +1

      Haha thanks, I tend to see certain things in colours and that struck me immediately! I know that other Chinese collectors definitely have more nicely painted ones than mine, so if the price is low enough for you, just get it. Your lighting situation may also be very different, so who knows, you migh be very happy with yours! 😁

    Some may not be happy with the paint, but I think this is a really good figure by Haolonggood, misnomer aside. Just wish it was called Scolosaurus instead.
    Speaking of Haolonggood, do you have plans for reviewing their Edmontosaurus?

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 месяца назад +1

      I think this is one instance where you could most justificably call it Scolosaurus as a matter of fact, not fancy! I used to feel that if the official label wasn't something a model was really of, I would not be comfortable, and I know some collectors call a model something else (e.g. PNSO ZT as T Rex). But this one I am _very_ comfortable treating as either one or the other! 😊
      PS: Unfortunately, my HLG Edmontosaurus got lost in the mail, and only just now arrived. As there are other good reviews out already, I may not review this one. And I am going to be very busy this week, as you'll hopefully see lol!

    I have bean waiting for a Euoplocephalus for a long time and all this discussion about this figure being eather Euoplocephalus tutus or Scolosaurus sp. makes me very sad.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  2 месяца назад +2

      That really only matters to people deep into anatomy. If you are not, ignore what the rest are saying. Get it if you like it, no one should be a reason for you to be upset over. Many people have equally many opinions. As a collector, ultimately, the only important opinion is your own! 👍

      @@DinosDragonsUnfortunately for me I have ordered it the first moment it was available. Usually I like to wait for reviews before buying a figure, but this time I was so excited for the idea of a Euoplocephalus figure that I couldn't help myself. If I had known all this beforehand, I probably wouldn't have bought it...
      Anyway, thank you for your amazing content!

      @@DinosDragons There is no modern-day animal that "reabsorbs bone" or shrinks its horns as it ages. So it's pretty ridiculous to assume dinosaurs could do so with no evidence.

    • @ultimulcretin5795

      @@The_PokeSaurusBut this is so obvious in the bony knobs we see on the frills of baby triceratops, which diminish in size as the animal grows up, until you have a adult animal with a almost completely smooth frill.
