Hey Jamie.
I was a college student who was trying to make some money by doing some events and the event manager had asked me to pick up your father from the airport to the venue. I still remember his humble and modest attitude. He asked me for me phone to call someone and I felt like a loser because I had no balance :( Still he was so patient.

I grew up waching Tom Alter Sir on various Tv serial. Jabaan sambhal ke, Sword of Tipu Sultan , Junoon.
I sometimes call myself as KK, inspired by Sir Tom Alter in Tv Serial Junoon. RIP sir. We lost a legend!!!

Hi Jamie, Tom Alter ji is an Indian legend. My favorite role of his which I will always remember is his role of Capt. Weston, in Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi. His rendition of Awadh nawab Wajid Ali Shah's urdu shayari is brilliant and memorable. No other Indian actor could have played that character better than him. We miss him so much. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great Actor he was. 1973 का साल था जब हमे भी यह वहम हो गया था कि हीरो बन सकते है और पहुंच गए थे FTII join करने Poona, तब पुणे नहीं था।वहां मैंने जब एक अंग्रेज़ लड़के को देखा तो यह सोचा की FTII बहुत ही reputed institute है जहां England से एक्टिंग सीखने लोग आते है।तब मैंने होने वाले इस महान कलाकार से अंग्रेज़ी में बात शुरू की Acting course में admission लेने के कोई Tips बताओ।वह दिन मुझे आज तक याद है जब इस अंग्रेज़ लड़के ने शुद्ध हिंदी में बोलना शुरू कर दिया और मैं उसका चेहरा देखता रहा तब मैंने पूछा यहां India अा कर इतनी अच्छी हिंदी इतनी जल्दी कैसे सीख ली।Audition test में फेल होने पर लौट के बुद्धू घर को आए।तब उस गोरे लड़के ने मेरी हिम्मत बंधाई और कहा की Voice modulation की प्रैक्टिस करो और next session में दुबारा try करना।वह गोरा लड़का आपके father Padam Shree Tom Alter थे। एक बेहतरीन कलाकार।

I always loved watching him on screen. From Shatranj Ke Khilari to Junoon, I adored his acting skills. I must have watched every interview of him on RUclips. As a boy from a small coastal town Mangalore, for me he represented the best of Indian cinema. Now as a grown-up man, I remember him as one of the best persons to have worked in Indian cinema. I haven't seen many films of Tom alter sahab but I was totally impressed and mesmerized when I saw him on the news channel where he do Chay pe charcha with common people . Ye 2014 ka election coverage tha. Muze unka personality dekh kar bahut dukh hua ki itane intelligent and sensitive and humble logo ko ache mouka bahut kam milte hai. Unke demise k baad ye program ek dusre anchor kar rahe hai but Tom alter ki baat hi kuch or thi.

Just watched his old interview, He was a diamond, So grounded, polite and pure. Now I have more respect for him. He was literally a 70s guy, rajesh khanna fan, love to meet people in person and most importantly a proud indian. ❤️
Tom Alter belongs to that pedigree of fine and graceful gentry that is honest, trustworthy, compassionate and so passionately given to his craft that he has approached all his challenges with patience and humility but above all, with LOVE. A trait that has virtually disappeared today - actors today look so robotic and artificial with their MAIN focus on fame and fortune but WITHOUT that real love for acting(seen as somewhat old-fashioned today). I have watched your Dad movies and always admired him a kid growing up in the 80’s there was none who matched his persona and later in life I got to know how amazing his Urdu was and I love Urdu and Ghalib too. I feel I have a small Tom Alter living in me still now as he was there when I was growing up. There to make it better and so interesting. We are lucking to have seen him on screen in Pakistan and may he rest in peace. There will never be another of him. To God we belong and to him we shall return.
