TORNADO WARNING to FLYING ROOF
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 сен 2016
- Incredible destructive tornado caught on 4K video with an entire flying roof, hovering trees, whirling 2x4's, clear loud sound of a tornado and leveled houses in extreme detail. This is the story of the May 9th, 2016 Katie-Wynnewood & Sulphur Oklahoma tornadoes. For licensing contact hankschyma@yahoo.com
In less than one hour a cumulus cluster would explode into a powerful supercell producing tornadoes with enough power to suck the roof off a house and toss its fragments a hundred meters.
The Katie - Wynnewood Oklahoma Tornado
The first tornado passed inside a mile to my south ripping up trees and striking a house. The tornado sound was a loud gushing waterfall sound and clearly audible. The house didn't sustain a direct hit, yet the entire roof was sucked off its walls and lifted into the tornado, then ripped apart as the bulk of the matter was tossed an estimated 100 meters. The rest of the house was demolished earning this tornado an EF4 rating. A tree hovered above the ground, roof trusses and 8 foot long 2x4's were whirling around the tornado like feathers. Only one fatality was reported with this tornado.
The Sulphur Oklahoma Tornado:
Not long after the first tornado dissipated, a second was born. This one a mile wide beast! It would cause major damage to many homes leaving only interior walls standing. A few unanchored homes, mobile homes and outbuildings would be completely leveled or swept away. A large metal storage garage would be swept away and the vehicles INSIDE it thrown up to 280 yards. (over 250 meters)
RaXPol mobile radar recorded winds over 200 MPH over an open field, indicating that this tornado was likely capable of producing EF5 damage. A young man would take shelter in his home's most interior room while his entire house around him was violently demolished. Only the two walls and toilet he is clinging to would remain. He will walk away without a scratch.
Tornado Preparation:
In the event of a tornado warning, get to the lowest level of a sturdy structure and put as many walls between you and the outside chaos as possible... a bathroom or a closet... whatever is in the center of the home away from windows. There are no guarantees when it comes to tornado safety, but in most cases, this advice works! If you live on the top floor of a small apartment and don't really have a center room, strike up a friendly conversation with your neighbors on the lowest level and discuss a shelter scenario plan with them.
THE FORECAST:
Three days prior to May 9, 2016 the Storm Prediction caught wind of the potential for tornadoes in Eastern Oklahoma and on the morning of May 9, hatched a 10% chance of tornadoes later upgraded with a chance of significant or powerful tornadoes EF2 and above. At 2:30PM a tornado watch was issued and at 3:09PM an isolated cluster of cumulus clouds were evident on satellite imagery with precipitation revealed on radar. Around 3:39 the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm warning and by 4:08 a tornado warning was issued while a tornado was already in progress. Right out of the gate this storm was producing.

I had a tornado lift off the ground and fly directly above my head one time. It was just a little higher than a telephone pole off the ground. My friend & I was looking up the throat of it...Yes! Never want to be in that position again! I said OH MY GOD! What amazed me (other than not dying!) When I looked up the very throat of it. It was pure black with stars shining like it was night time. I could see the stars! It only lasted a few seconds and then it was over me and then there was a rainbow of colors in the very tall clouds. We lived in married student housing in Iowa City, and one set of apartments could only offer a windowless bathroom {garden apartments, so if you lived on the 2nd floor, you were really SOL. The nicer ones that we finally moved to had a common area everyone could access, and our storage cages down there were at least below ground. Not like a storm shelter would be, but better than an inside above-ground bathroom. You'd think in Iowa on the western edge of the city, they'd have a little more tornado sense.

If this happens
1.) Go to the basement or if you don't have one go to the bathroom and bring food if you have time
2.) If in in the bathroom hold on to the toilet or go in the bathtub (you can also hide in the dryer or washer for protection)
3.) Pray for not only yourself but your loved ones and even after the tornado is parted stay in a safe room because you don't know what to expect as the aftermath
4.) Make sure you are listening to a radio or looking at the news because once all the storms are gone you can leave where ever you are
5.) Call your loved ones (if you can)

I used to live with my grandparents, and they have an old-fashioned storm cellar, a literal hole in the ground. It is set into the side of a hill, and is lined with bricks. We've used it many times. They live in Iowa. One of my most vivid memories involving the cellar was about 7 or 8 years ago. My grandfather and I were watching the tornado scene in the movie The Day After Tomorrow. We looked behind the TV and out the window, and I kid you not, it was dark green. Not long after, we looked out the screen door as one of the lawn chairs was being blown across the yard. Now, mind you, these weren't plastic lawn chairs, these were pine wood chairs, not light at all. At that point, we decided to grab our portable NOAA weather radio, get the grandkids and the dogs, and run to the storm cellar. We stayed in the cellar for a little under half an hour. Luckily, the tornado missed the property by about a mile or so. We took a drive to see if any of our friends and neighbors were affected. Turns out, one of our tractor-repair friends suffered a direct hit on his business garage. It was torn to shreds. However, the house, sitting right next door, had next to no damage(just a few broken windows). Anyway, just sharing a tornado story.
Reading your story reminds me of one of mine. My old house 'I have moved since then' had a basement. I did not like going into it. But one day we where getting some major storms and was under tornado watches. I was standing at the back door watching the storm. I had this heavy 3 person yard swing. When I saw that swing go air born I scooped up my chihuahua and ran down into the basement. Just with in seconds it sounded like my deck was being ripped off the house. I was so scared. I always start praying when storms are coming. 🙏 Those few seconds felt like for ever. It was so loud and terrified me. So when it finally stopped I went out and all my deck furniture and gas grill was all up against the house. The grill is heavy too. Then I found out just a couple of miles from me was an EF1 tornado that destroyed a mobile home. Very scary day for sure. But I have seen 2 in my life time both EF1. And since we have moved have had one come with in 2 1/2 miles from us. I was outside taking pictures of the storm and the wind got so bad I had to go in the house. We live in the country now and don't have a basement. But the guy that lives behind us has a storm shelter. But we have been in it. Had to share my story after reading yours. I live in North Central Texas and have encountered 3-3.5 tornadoes. Chronologically it was 2007-2016. Locations were at home, then years later at school, then in Oklahoma on the way back from family. Most recently last year I saw a tornado forming before my very eyes, I saw the updraft and the circulation. I say 3.5 because it was only a funnel cloud, I could not see the rest because of the heavy rain wall and hail. This year should be interesting, storms are supposed to happen this Sunday.
Will Connor there was once a severe thunderstorm when I was at Girl Scout camp a few years ago and I had to comfort a group of terrified 6 year olds who where clinging to me. And little did I know that meanwhile at my house there was a tornado warning and my mother and sister where sheltering under a table because I live in Maryland and we have no basement or tornado shelter because my house is so old

Growing up in "Tornado Alley" I grew an affection for storms. I love them. Tornadoes are a whole different creature. I watched a tornado form in 1982 and it was amazing!! I would have been a storm chaser if I had been born later!! My prayers go out to all the people affected by these storms. I guess it's like a Lion, beautiful but deadly at the same time!! Ahh nature is awesome!!
No a pitbull
Linda Lowe yup it’s true
I watch your channel religiously. Thank god you're there documenting.
6:07 "And there...Oh my God, mile-wide tornado." Favorite part of this video.
Love you, Hank, and your channel. Amazing camera work and some really powerful images. Stay safe, brother.

I love were I live we don't have a tornado
My step dad was a part of Eye Watch back in the 80's. Any significant weather we'd all be in his van, him with his ham radio, reporting where these tornadoes were. To say I've got a very healthy respect for tornadoes is an understatement! One I in particular remember was in spring 1982. We were going from our home in Northeast Texas to see friends in Missouri. Right as wer got to the Paris, Texas city limits 4 tornados touched down. I was only 12 y/o and that was the first time I'd ever seen anything that destructive! One house was cut perfectly in two. I could see in the living area and the chairs were still setting having not been touched. The other half was simply gone. Cows dead. Who housing complexes leveled. People out walking around. My mom looked at my dad and said, "Roy, if we didn't have all these little ones with us I'd get out and help." At 12 I was the oldest of 6 children they had. The youngest was my sister, Karen, who was less than one year old. Fire Dept lifted power lines so we could get through. I'm just thankful we weren't in the direct path if those storms. Thought I'd share that memory.
Wow. I am a newbie here and wow is all I can seem to say. And I love this guy, he is so personable and knowledgeable and funny, how can you not.
Holy cow Hank I cant stop watching your outstanding vids. . Greeting from Cairns Australia
4:45 that music hits me in the feels, it's sad to me because moments before we saw a man die, and that shot shows what a monster that tornado is, evil violent and deadly :(

You think a cat is better than a human, PFF you disgust me.
I feel bad for the cow at the end
Any trees that got thrown can live as long as its roots are in the ground
hard to believe something so devastating can be so beautiful
I live in Kentucky where we just had the massive long track tornado. These videos are very scary to watch but seeing it happen in person has to be much more terrifying. So devastating, prayers for everyone involved 🙏🏻 💔
Mayfield,Kentucky December 10th EF4 tornado?
1:35 chills. I can’t explain why, but it gives me chills.
Because I don't have tornadoes where I love I find them beautiful.
Much like a woman. They suck you in, get you confused on your direction, and leave you hurt and grateful they're gone.
Emojis Are Bae MSP no place is safe from tornadoes except Antarctica

Mason_H There have been a few tornadoes in England! Incredibly unimpressive ones, but tornadoes nonetheless.
Man, you easily have some of the most beautiful tornado videos I have ever seen.
Just incredible thank you for this breath taking footage. To see one in person is on my bucket list.WOW
Better start planning a trip to Tornado Alley (or Alabama). Spring & Summer is most likely.
In a time like we live, I like the message your sending, in the event of a crisis, you'll be surprised at how amazing human beings can be. I wish we could all put aside our differences and realize that we are all human beings, no matter how different we may look or think. We all deserve a base level of respect.
