This dress shirt has seen better days, we took in the side seams and added darts and made it look fantastic! Here is the whole playlist on how we did that!

I've got some long sleeved shirts to shorten for a friend, and wanted to double check how to do a men's shirt (I've only done my own before now) and these ones are white, so you can see (compared to the one he likes) how much has been tucked inside the hem of the sleeve. His are an inch, but the fabric tucked in goes all the way into the fold. I was panicking that you needed at least half an inch to tuck in, until I realised you weren't intending to, then all was well 😄
      I loved this video!

What a great service you provide for men who haven't thought of altering their clothes. Plus your personality. :-) Not to be picky, but when you turn a hem under, you should first turn it under 1/4" so it doesn't unravel. Maybe that fabric will hold, but many will fray.

    • @denisestancel2709
      @denisestancel2709 2 года назад

Yes, I was thinking the same thing! 1 1/4" would have been better so you could tuck under the raw edge and still have a 1" edge. Great video though!

This is the best channel I've come across in AGES! I love my clothes slim fititng and tapered but being 5'4 and buying good fitting XS is hard - I've always been curious about tailoring my own clothes but was very intimated to start but you've 100% convinced me to take the jump!

Yo 5'3 with short muscular limbs and i got the exact same issue! Clothes that fit in length are too tight, clothes that fit in circumference are comically long 😂 Been watching these videos for a week and i have a sewing machine I'm waiting to be able to borrow. How's tailoring your own clothes working out?

Great work, SD. I followed your advices and I was altering my shirts the very next day I got a sewing machine. What I like about your videos is that I find them more relatable than most. Seweing and tailoring does not has to be a high class, boring activity nor a girly skill. I see you as a fun manly man that wants to look good and avoid the struggle and prices of going to the tailor. Now, I can buy whatever I want regardless if it is worth the trip to the tailor. You just opened a whole new world of outfits opportunities to me.
Probably you should get ahead and start making winter clothing videos, so we can prepare and look good for incoming months. Also, I would love to learn FROM YOU how to make a blazer and sport coats slimmer and it's sleeves as well. It would be fun to watch what you can do with 20 bucks at a goodwill. Thank again.

I feel like in the span of just over an hour on this channel finding this channel I’ve discovered a new DIY hobby. I have a lot of dress clothing and buy a lot of it and often needing custom trouser hems, cuffs. Shirts with excess fabric because I couldn’t get that Slim Fit style of the shirt pattern and had to go Tailored Fit. This is a damn interesting hobby.

    • @ardentdfender4116

@@StylishDTailors The addiction has already began. 24hrs ago I’ve never heard of this channel, no expectation anything like this existed on RUclips and had no idea this kind of self tailoring was a DIY Hobby or the fact I needed it. So I’m down the proverbial rabbit hole. I also think the other thing that makes these videos so captivating and mesmerizing is your entire personality which is quite comical and funny both while being so entertaining. It makes for great content.
But if I can throw out an idea having had High Quality custom trousers hemmed and cuffed is what interesting things have you done with the cut off fabric to sew up something interesting with those pieces of high quality fabric pieces. That to me can be interesting for a content video too.

  • @dianepeak6833

I don't know if anyone mentioned it to you, but you can take painter's tape (blue, yellow, green, beige) and cut 3 or 4 pieces about 2 1/2 inches long. Stack them on top of one another, then put them on your machine as an extension of your seam guide. Keep away from the feed dogs. Then as you are sewing, just place your fabric to the left of this tape (but up against it), and you will get a perfect stitching line every time!!

Fantastic, I have a bunch of shirts I was considering applying this to. Now I know, thx!
So you don't see a need to finish off the inner edges, there's no fraying in there?
Zig zag has to be the most obnoxious part of sewing. If I didn't have to ever "finish" anything, I'd sew so much more!

    • @StylishDTailors

I noticed that too, was wondering if it had been addressed in the comments. At the end of the video, he does mention that he decided to change the length but the tutorial portion for it was still flawed. When he measured the 1 inch and put the pin in, that is where the crease of the fold should have been, not where he lines up the end of the hem
