I don't think I've ever worn a slip dress! I am not planning to start. Straight, bootcut, and flare jeans are really more comfortable. Thank you for your wise advice.
Me too. Then I catch myself in the full length mirror so take them off, throw them in the donate box. Just cuz I pulled them on doesn't mean I can wear them in public.
I will be 70 next year. I wear black leggings or skinny jean with boots all winter long. I usually wear sweater dresses over them. I doubt I will ever stop wearing them, as I wear knee high boots all winter.
For years RUclips stylists have been saying skinny jeans and/or leggings are out. I think the stylists need to give in to the fact that leggings/skinny jeans with boots are an enduring staple in many women’s winter wardrobes.
The thing is, some people have long slim legs, some have short chunky legs, some have perfect legs, some have muscular legs and some have shapeless legs. You wear the jeans that make your legs look the best they can, regardless of what's in fashion.
When you said to ditch baggy/oversize my heart sank, as I just love wide leg trousers, then realised you were not talking about wide leg, but 'swampy' clothes. A couple of years ago I started wearing body skimming tops with wide leg/palazzo pants and the difference is utterly staggering - I no longer look scruffy!
@@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre It is thanks to you and another vlogger, Marie Anne Lecour that I have learnt how to style clothes - before that I did not understand the 'rules', so it was all abit hit and miss. The only item you mentioned that I have is an oversized sweater. I really like it and will probably continue to wear it because I don't pay attention to trends. I just wear what makes me happy and is comfortable. Thanks for the video. It was very informative.
Hi GIna. I absolutely say "go for it" with the oversized jumper! I don't think there is anything wrong with them, just be aware of styling them with something else that is more fitted and the balance will work. XX
I have passed them to my daughter, i'm realising i'm probably too old for skinny jeans now anyway! Plus, chunky legs don't help or give a good look haha! @@juliewillard1367

I totally agree with you on neon colours as well as uncomfortable shoes of a n y kind, Dear Deirdre. Those are a total no, no, unless you are in kindergarden and want to impress the other children, or as an adult, want to let your feet ruin your day. Countless times, I told myself „come on, those shoes are squeezing your toes a little, but just a little bit!“ and it got worse the longer I had them on my feet. Thank you for your video 💐👍🏻🌸, very pleasant as everytime and great reminder to stay away from those.
I like kitten heels fir the comfort and because my hubby is short . It may be old fashioned , but I like my man to be at least as tall as me. Higher heels make me tower over my husband. I kniw I shouldn't care, but I feel more comfortable that way
Hi Deirdre, I have a shape just like you so I agree with you on the slip dress absolutely. You are a classy lady. thank you for another informative video.
Personally it would be nice if men and women actually bothered to dress . Everyone’s so slovenly and look like they can’t be bothered. Hoodies goodbye and trainers bye bye. Not to say you can’t wear them but people seem so untidy .
I have to agree with you about these items. I think with slip dresses and low rise jeans only a minimum amount of people can get away with these. If I wore the items you talked about in this video today people would snigger at me 😆
I never bought a slip dress because I always thought they looked like a nightdress. At 4'10" I have to be careful with pants so I don't look like the pants are wearing me. 😊 I still like my skinny jeans and everything that is closer to the body. Baggy clothes are never flattering for anyone. I'm glad it's on its way out.
I agree with all of these "don't's" and I'm very happy to see some of the items that are currently trending and/or classic, especially for the more mature woman. As lovely as slip dresses and skirts are on younger women, as you pointed out, I have never gotten over the feeling that they look too much like lingerie, hence the "slip" in the name. I love that kitten heels are back, as they're so much more wearable by everyone! I never got on board with skinny jeans, so no sacrifice there! 😅 Wonderful video, as always! Thank you, Deirdre! ❤️
Oversized is going to be hard for me to ditch, just a comfort thing, Neon can go easily, and I honestly hate to show logos; slip dresses show too much cottage cheese, I do still wear a skinny jean if I’m wearing an oversized sweater, I don’t like really wide leg jeans; fortunately tall heels have never been my thing. Fashion should be comfortable.
It’s a sociological thing… that women wearing baggy clothes to hide their fat actually gives into their bad eating habits. Wearing clothes that fit encourages their flattering body types and therefore creates better eating habits!
I remember when all you could buy were low rise jeans and I hated them so glad we have a choice now. The slip dress I think was awful it reminded me of something you would wear under a dress and not as an outer garment so glad that’s gone too. Thank you for all the other tips.
I saw an episode of Say Yes to The Dress where a woman said Yes to a slip gown. It was gorgeous but....she took it off, saw it on the hanger and changed her mind. It cost $6,000. For a slip dress! She left without it.
Good riddance slip dresses! Not that I've got one. But I can't wait to wear the ruched stretch velvet dress in navy blue that I got for a song in the winter sales. I am keeping the skinny jeans, to wear on the bike and with the one oversized item that I am keeping: a white sweatshirt with gold sequins on the hood and in a stripe down each sleeve. Hi Deidre! Another wonderful video from you, with the funny "Limousine shoes" that made me laugh! Just last week, the weather here in Texas was 70 degrees, in FEBRUARY, so of course, I ditched my boots and grabbed my 4 inch Tommy Hilfiger summer sandals and headed to lunch. These are what I call 'restaurant shoes', because they are NOT made for walking, they are for sitting and eating! I wore my driving shoes to get there, changed into the restaurant shoes, and very carefully walked the 50 feet to the restaurant. Feeling good, feeling fine! Thank you so much for all of your videos, you changed my life last year and I'm like a new woman now, much in part to YOUR videos, providing inspiration and also letting us know that it;s perfectly ok to 'just be you'. You are loved, and I send you my good wishes and prayers for you and your husband. Love from Texas!
I wish the oversized blazer would do away! It’s been trending for more than five years, but I just won’t buy one, they’re completely shapeless. Slightly relaxed is ok, for wearing over a shirt and sweater, but they must have a defined waist.
Slip dresses are suitable for slim, flat chested women, like runway models. I have a few and loved wearing them but now I’ve gained weight, specifically in my boob department so the same slip dresses now looks odd on me lol the fabric they’re made with is also not stretchy so it’s very difficult to get it on now lol
Yes! Definitely glad all those styles are "out" I never liked skinny jeans or the oversized look. I'm 5'2 so that just doesn't work for me. Thank you ❤ love your videos
Hi Deirdre, I will never give up skinny jeans and will keep my clothes for years. If I like them, I keep them. Paid too much for them to stop wearing them.
I wish you would give advice for women with a large bust line. I am a 38DD, and I struggle to find good, supportive bra to wear. A proper fitting bra is very hard for me to find. Any suggestions? 🌷
You give such great advice. Have you or can you do a video for us big bust gals? I hate minimizer bras cause I like the natural full look but any advice will help. Your chest area looks amazing today, btw. Thank you for all you do!😊
Sure the baggy clothes at 1:58 looks layered on multi fabrics, patterns look ridiculous whereas the size 4 model at 1:22 with one piece of baggy clothes do not. I am neither. At 3:40 you have on pleated trousers. No way for me with my extra 'muscle'. Why is it that women size 22 wear leggings all the time? Oh right, they fit. Spandex to the rescue.
Love the Chanel type jackets. Bought a few slightly oversized blazers last year that I still like so will team them with streamlined bottoms and make sure things look in proportion…something that you tell us all the time. Hate slip dresses too….and neons….totally agree with you on that Deirdre. Thank you once again for your good advice and tips for making us all feel and look smart and confident.🌸
Hi Deidre, I stumbled across you and I love anyone who can help me dress for success. I decided to try a lighter pant to replace all the black. I really saw that the black was really stark. After a bit of experimenting I saw what that lighter pant really improved the outfit. Relaxed top and a tighter bottom is lovely and visa versa. If I wear a baggy pant I always wear a more form fitting top. No logos ever, if I wear a logo the company owes me an advertising budget. Thank you for the counsel. It has changed my dressing already!
I bought a slip dress a year ago, my husband said wow we’ll have to go out somewhere nice so you can wear that. I looked at him and laughed and said I’m gonna wear this as a nightgown not out of the house.😂😂😂
You are so right about oversized I can’t stand clothing that make you look bigger, why do these designers think it’s ok for young slim women to hide their bodies under sacks!!
I will never wear denim for anything but I saved a pair of y2k low rise for some reason. Someone at work offered me 20.00 to wear them. I miss low rise. Yes they still fit. They are a true size 0. Now the US upside so fat people think they are smaller than they are. That what one of my managers told me when I worked at Ann Taylor. Now I have to wear kids size 14 but America has poor fashion taste and order most of my clothes from asia because they fit and I don't look like embarissing americans
Brilliant as always! As we get older I really think we need to assess our wardrobes regularly! Too easy to get stuck in a rut and repeat an old favourite. Then we feel and look frumpy! So much easier when we were younger! But actually it's fun changing things around and letting go. Thankyou for your inspiration!
I actually "like" hearing when things are not "in" at the moment; I use it as an instigator to putting away those things in a box under the bed and when i pull them out a year or so later it's fun to see it again! Then i can have the fun of being creative again (hmm, what can i wear this with?) or immediately see if i should send it on its way. 😁 And, re this video, those yellow roses are so pretty! Thank you and have a great week!
I 100% agree with 'slip dresses'. I always thought they looked daft, as if the wearer had forgotten to put on their actual dress. The same with the slip skirts. You're bang on with the other suggestions too. I'd probably suggest that people store anything they really love as it'll probably be back in a few years. Fashion is speeding up ridiculously.
Skinny jeans can go… they were not meant for those of us with thicker calves anyways. But high rise can go straight out with the skinnies, in my view… I can’t get over how they make the women’s bottoms look 4 feet long. 😅
I think I need a slip under a white linen shirt dress I got. Any suggestions? Seems I haven’t heard about slips lately. I need something cool, because my reason to wear linen is that I live in TX heat.
Baggy clothes only look tolerable on very thin, long people. You are so right to point out that garments that fit correctly are the most flattering. The drape of the fabric on a more loosely cut garment makes all the difference in how good it will look. I completely agree with you on all points.
I’m glad skinny jeans are not in style anymore, I’m so glad the stylish, tailored pants are back in style. I’m a pear shape and do better with the small pleats at the waist than flare out around the hips.
Totally disagree with you on skinny jeans being totally out one cause for sustainability which most are on board with and if you happen to have skinny jeans that look amazing on you are so comfortable and versatile as they are they look good with all style shoes from sneakers to high heels and any style boot and can be dressed up or down you just need to style them right for your figure bet thousands or more would agreeable 😘
Hi Deidre, this is the 2nd video I've watched & have now subscribed. I'm very petite both is girth & stature and while I can wear a slip dress if it doesn't have a design element such as a draping neckline it looks like underwear. I also find that anything that drapes on my body or is structured like a crop jacket suits me best. Trousers with pleats are a big no no. Anything with a V neckline is flattering. Loose long overjackets with slim mid rise jeans with longer necklaces elongate my incredibly tall 4ft 11" height - or lack thereof🤣 Lastly, I very rarely wear anything with a logo because I refuse to be somebody else's billboard 📣 Love your video & your bubbly down to earth personality ❤ All the best from Australia
Slip dresses look like undergarments or nightgowns, even on the models. Some designer thought it would be edgy and some people followed along. Reminds me of the pantless trend. On the best bodies the outfit looks incomplete.
I love leggings for at home, but they only come in black, and perhaps one other dark shade, here in the US. Black dominates the apparel market here, by far. But, I actually don’t like wearing it much and have plenty of black bottoms already. I want lighter colors like beige and moss green, even white. I agree with you about neutrals and natural-looking colors, I like the muted, soft colors in my GSA Rock Color Chart (I’m a geologist, so I have one handy, they’re a great guide to which colors come from nature). I love color, but brights (and darks) don’t suit my “Soft” coloring type. The only neon color I ever bought was a neon pink ski jacket, so my husband, family or friends could easily spot me on the slopes! Oh, and the required safety vests for jobsites, of course. I often bought my own, better-made and -fitting neon pink ones, rather than the standard-issue cheap Safety Orange (men’s XL!) ones my employer provided ones that didn’t have any pockets, etc. The men’s enormous ones slid off my shoulders and put me into predicaments, too, that weren’t at all safe (no loose clothes around drill rigs).
The majority of people can wear slip skirts, unlike dresses. The trick is getting a thicker satin that drapes well in an A-line shape, instead of mermaid shape. Wear pantyhose, light shapewear and a slip. If you have a tummy, wear a dressy sweater untucked or a dressy blouse with a straight bottom worn out and belted.
I agree that slip skirts are wearable for most women. I have 3 slip skirts in black, red and magenta, and I find them so comfortable to wear. I also think they look stylish and elegant.
Can’t wear those stilettos anymore. I’m retired and don’t need or want to wear them. I do like the block and kitten heels. I just don’t go anywhere anymore to wear them. When I worked I had 125 pr of heels all good brands. I was a shoe junkie. I donated them all to goodwill.

Ha ha!! Love it! XX
Slip skirts are a great alternative to a dress for making it fit various sizes as you can get the correct size and adjust the top to suit that shape 🙏
Hi! I was wondering what your opinion of jeans with embroidery flowers or designs on them. The ones that have matching jackets.
Love watching you! Thanks for the great tips. 👗👠🛍️
I am so glad to say bye bye to skinny jeans.
Great video, agree with all of it. Just a quick question - where is your jewellery from? I love it !
Looking beautiful as always Deirdre ❤loving the jeans ❤️ xxxx
Thanks so much, Ryan. XX
@@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre your very welcome ❤️ xxx
I think I need a slip under a white linen shirt dress I got. Any suggestions? Seems I haven’t heard about slips lately. I need something cool, because my reason to wear linen is that I live in TX heat.
Couldn’t agree more with all your suggestions and thank God skinnies are out! 😅
Slip dresses always make me feel like I’m wearing my pyjamas out
Baggy clothes only look tolerable on very thin, long people.
I think cropped jeans and trousers will be outdated soon. Full length trousers and jeans are more elegant.
Hate logos
I have to disagree with the slip dress and the skirts. I love them.
Wear what you love! XX
Why cant they make jeans with a side zipper? The fly zipper in front adds pounds to the wearer.
Spot on lovely! I love your necklace and earrings ❤. Have a great week coming up 😊xx
I can't find the area below the video where you list the items you talk about?
I agree with everything you say in this video xx
I never wore skinny jeans as an apple w a big middle: they make you look like an ice cream cone when viewed from the side 😮🎉
Love your suggestions and videos ❤
Looks like I won’t need to clean out my closet since I don’t own any of these items that you mentioned!😊
Thank you again for the great tips. I totally agree with everything you said.
Aww, thank you so much for sharing all your valuable comments and for subscribing. A big welcome to my channel. Lots of love xx
Hate skinny jeans…I’m knock kneed and it emphasizes the condition
Slip dresses look like undergarments or nightgowns, even on the models. Some designer thought it would be edgy and some people followed along. Reminds me of the pantless trend. On the best bodies the outfit looks incomplete.
I do not like slip dresses lol it never look flattery on my rectangle/pear body lol
Thank you so much for sharing, Kimberly. You are always so informative. Much appreciated. Lots of love. XX
1:54 what are ridiculous outfit, who would actually want to look like that?🤢
You’re spot on. Love your videos
Nope. Micro mini slip dress with pushup bra and six inch platform heels
I just found you. Thank you for helping us mature women dress the best. You are lovely.
You are so welcome! Xx
And Slip dresses look like a night gown. Young or old
Can’t wear those stilettos anymore. I’m retired and don’t need or want to wear them. I do like the block and kitten heels. I just don’t go anywhere anymore to wear them. When I worked I had 125 pr of heels all good brands. I was a shoe junkie. I donated them all to goodwill.
Wow! XX
Agreed with EVERY one of these points!
