People who opposed the presence of US troops in the Philippines may not be aware that when the US left the Philippines before, the Chinese became very aggressive and started to occupy the Spratlys Islands, and we were helpless to evict them. As regards their claim that the presence of the US forces violates our sovereignthy, that is not correct. US bases and forces were in Japan, South Korea, and other nations, and yet, their sovereignthy was not affected at all.

This is why I support EDCA. Superpowers will always be flawed and controversial. But I would rather side with countries that share a long history of democratic principles, military compatibility and interoperability.

For those that don't know. The man in black with glasses in the interview is a Governor in a certain province here, and has been branded as a Chinese loyalist, as his views are more in line with befriending China, and also claimed that the Chinese "are our friends" so yeah. pretty self explanatory that he is not against the U.S for the interest of the Filipino people, but he has his own interests elsewhere. Not here to ruin this man's image, he basically did it to himself in interviews other than this one.

That statement where he said he would rather take China's empty promises than no promises at all says a lot. Gives people hope? Sure. But when those promises fail to arrive you only end up with despair. China may bring benefits to Cagayan but right now they are bringing suffering to other provinces like Palawan and Zambales. Plus, the northern point of Luzon was the entry point of Imperial Japan to conquering the Philippines. China can do the same, maybe with even less resistance if this guy stays in office.

You meant Bataan Death March. As the your desire not to conquer the Philippines, that's wonderful, and thanks. But, if we go back in time, the Philippines was conquered by the Americans after the Spanish-American War, replaced one conqueror (Spaniards) by another one (Americans). Going back again in history, do you know that a mock battle was agreed by both the Spaniards and Americans in August 13, 1899 so that the former will not lose face by surrendering to the native Filipinos who were already surrounded Manila, the capital? To cement the honor, the former conqueror was paid $20 million for "development done in the islands". During the Treaty of Paris (between the Americans and Spaniards), Filipino representatives were not allowed to attend, so with the representatives from Cuba who were also prevented from attending the surrender ceremony by the Spaniards to the Americans (and I believed also during the Treaty)? What initial conclusion you could probably derive on these? During WWII, Filipinos, being under the American sovereignty, were compelled to fight alongside with them. Perhaps, only perhaps, if the Philippines was ruled by Filipinos, they could perhaps maintain neutrality among the warring nations in the region and elsewhere. Perhaps, it is the destiny of the Philippines to be conquered by another conqueror, and now have built a very strong relation, hopefully, with sincerity, and without abandoning the Philippines in the event of "expected" misadventure of an aspiring superpower in the region. Perhaps, it is God's will to be in a "shoulder-to-shoulder relationship" between the Philippines and the Americans, although, of course, the mighty always prevail against the weak and the weak will surely depend on the mighty in the hope that the sour history will not repeat itself and the future, as you said, will even be brighter together with the US, allied countries and other like-minded democracies.

You Americans are like prostitutes asking for certificates of virginity.
The 1898 American-Spanish Peace Treaty of Paris, the 1900 Spanish-American Treaty Concerning the Cession of the Outlying Islands of the Philippines, and the 1930 Treaty Concerning the Delimitation of the Boundary Between British North Borneo and the American Philippines delimited and restricted the Philippines. The territory lies east of the 118th parallel east longitude. The Philippines' territorial scope is limited to the Philippine Islands and does not involve China's South China Sea islands and reefs. It was reconfirmed by the 1935 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines and the 1961 Act Concerning the Establishment of the Baselines of the Territorial Sea of the Philippines (Act No. 3046 of the Republic of the Philippines).
After the victory in World War II, the United States also dispatched warships to assist China in establishing national boundary monuments on islands and reefs in the South China Sea. In order to demonstrate Sino-US friendship, some islands and reefs in the South China Sea were renamed after U.S. warships.
Now, in order to hinder China's development, the United States does not want the South China Sea to be peaceful, and makes the Philippines your victim to create disputes with China. You Americans are like prostitutes who want certificates of virginity!😂

Chinese never claim Natuna islands of Indonesia because they were inhabited by Indonesians. Indonesians used to play at Ashmore reefs and islands and even Northern part of Australia, in between Timor island and Northern Australia and now they are all under Australian territories. Borders change because of wars, effective occupation, legal reality and precedence etc. No Filipinos ever question of why the Euro Anglo Saxons can have many so far away colonies. Why don't Filipinos claim Palau and Guam from the US too?
These Americans are not saints and angels. Their bases are targets in a war between China and USA.
Too many Filipinos suffer from Stockholm Syndrome. Falling in love with their colonizers and rapists. Very sad.
FRENCH occupied Tahiti and New Caledonia, Australians occupied Cocos islands, Ashmore reefs and Christmas island despite many history and the natives living there show greater links to Indonesia.

USA is key for POOR FILIPINO PEOPLE.
Our GDP is $401 billion just like 1 State of US but the most Filipino politicians are Corrupt these is the reason that The Philippines will stay poor Country even is Rich Country.
Some Filipino Politicians help Chinese to Build 9 Islands for Chinese Military at WEST PHIL. SEA for their own BENEFITS.

We did Independent I think the solution is
Common Wealth of USA is much better for Poor Filipinos.
      WHY?
Many Americans and Filipinos died for Philippines during the 1st and 2nd World War,
Now the Philippines is Independent many poor people have no medical benefits and poor social security due to corruption system.
Until now Americans help us specially in Security and Free medication for poor Filipinos. There are 4.5 million legally FILIPINO- AMERICANS leaving in the States now 95% of them are sending money in their Family back at home $35,000,000,000 per year and The Goverment of USA invest $ 275,000,000,O00 it is 20% GDP it is good for the Economy of the Philippines.
I have been in the USA before very nice people and good policies of Government and good benefits for American Citizens which We don't have in the Philippines.
Thank you Americans for all your support for poor Filipino fishermen.
If we will become 51 State of USA our wage or salary will become $2000 to $3000 up it's depend upon the profession of the citizen and FREE MEDICATION for FILIPINO but Rich Filipino will disagree about this because they will not be superior anymore on our country therefore they can't hold the neck of poor Filipinos anymore.
We don't want China and We don't need Chinese.
Businessmen and Some politicians build billions of dollars from China.
Most Philippine Politicians always say look at yourself first before the Government fellow Filipino then the poor Filipinos will listen to feel guilt in their hearth
      and
Some Filipino Politicians continue and take advantage to MANIPULATE 5 TRILLION of TAX per anumn.
Most of our Politicians it seems they have a plans to protect the West Philippines sea but truly they want to win again in the next election to have more votes and they can't do anything in the West Philippines Sea They are just pretentious that they are concerned.
Therefore most Filipino politicians don't like American Politicians because Rich Filipinos and Some Filipino Politicians are Corrupt they are always trying to destroy the good things from Spain and USA to continue the corrupt system in the Philippines while 99% of Filipino Politician and Family is holding USA VISA while poor FILIPINO don't have.
We received our Independent 1946 and THE CORRUPTION is the main problem of the Philippines until now.
What is the sense of CELEBRATING of OUR INDEPENDENT? Poor Filipinos are increasing even though they are HARD WORKING PEOPLE.
Young Filipinos now realize that Americans are good influence but some Filipino politicians manipulate it for their OWN BENEFITs
      Thank you Pres. Marcos

Hypothetically speaking, if we didn't invite the US, what makes anyone think that China won't bully the Philippines when they already started showing signs of aggression by bullying our fishermen out of fishing areas we've been fishing for years. Regardless whether the US is there or not, China will continue their mission and without the US there, it would leave the Philippines very vulnerable. Really good video. I like how they interviewed people with different perspectives. The guy who is wearing formal attire is neutral while giving informations why this side think this and that. The guy who is wearing military outfit seems to be siding with US but from what I have watched it has a lot to do with Filipinos rather than "Yay US is back, go away China". He also reminds people why the government is doing this in the first place which a lot of people specially on opposing side either don't remember or just outright ignore it. The woman who was working on the bar says a lot about the history of the Philippines and it's as a cautionary tale for future developments. The old woman have really nothing to add and is just a continuation of the woman before. The governor who is siding with China seems to be the most narrow minded person out there. The ideology he is using is pretty naïve and he also seems to ignore a lot of the details to the point you can call it arrogance. For good or the worse the national interest has more power than local interest.

Philippines is plagued by systematic corruption, which has been around since colonisation. Philippines is corrupted and built that way so others could dictate the situations easier, ignorance is cultivated in the Philippines whilst intellectuals are reduced to martyrs like Jose Rizal. Individually change can happen but holistically it's impossible since we have many other factors that hinder our situation.
Likewise, the Philippines has so many issues which makes it hard to concentrate on this China issue alone, we suffer from earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes just like Indonesia, then we have the most typhoons in the world per year which is now more stronger due to carbon pollution especially from China and the US, we suffer from ongoing rebel insurgency be it terrorism or communist rebels, we suffer from systematic corruption like the human trafficking industry installed by colonisers and etc.
But the Ph does have its strength, but if we flexed our biggest weapon it would be end game for everyone. Let's just say Philippines is not the pinnacle of the coral triangle and next to the world's deepest abyss for no reason.

They profit from wars and would make themselves look like the good guys and make every country they feel threatened from be the enemy but that doesn't mean we can just assume she also doesn't have a problem with China's aggression. She just knew who's the more evil here of the two.

Well, if she's not a hyprocite then she must be an ignorant weasel for not knowing what's going on in the Spratley! The reason why the Philippine government pushed to open more EDCA sites for the US was because of China's aggressive behavior in the Spratley. Everyone knows this. Your mom, your dad, your siblings, yaya, neighbors, heck, even your dog knows this, but her??? IMPOSSIBLE! Why blame the police that you invite to help you train and protect your home from the robbers? Why not blame or criticize the robbers??? Anyone with a fully functional brain will tell you that "she doesn't make any sense!" China has been brazenly seizing Philippine waters and territories, including Scarborough Shoals, Mischief Reef, and Subi Reef, and has repeatedly engaged in hostile acts against Filipino coast guards, all while sending militia boats to intimidate and threaten our people in our waters! And despite hundreds of diplomatic protests, China has shown no respect for our government and our sovereignty. So for Corazon Fabros to criticize the US presence as a result of China's actions is illogical and foolish!
But now I know why -- she's a communist. Oooooh, not true, you say??? Well, prove me wrong! Cite me an article that she wrote for the past decades or from a news media interviewing her where she even slightly criticized China's incursion into the West Philippine Sea! Try your very best to find one because you can't find a single d4mn thing. Not a single one! It's always been about her criticism of America. She even blamed the US for the deaths of thousands of Vietnamese during the Vietnam War -- but not one word against China for providing military aid, training and weapons to the Viet Minh in order to topple the democratic government of Vietnam at that time! This is very typical behavior of pro-communist people like Renato Reyes. You will never hear Reyes say one bad thing against China. Never. But the US??? Ohhhhh plenty! Well, I hope our government is keeping an eye on them because these people are up to no good!

And they have developed some of the most advanced and sophisticated weapons the world has ever seen. So, it's understandable that other nations will seek to buy these cutting-edge technologies in order to bolster their own defenses against hostile forces. A victory in a sea battle is not characterized solely by the power or number of the ships in a country's naval arsenal. Instead, it is fundamentally driven by human spirit and experience - two qualities that the Philippines possesses in abundance. The indomitable spirit of the Filipinos, shaped by their history of perseverance and resilience, can propel them to face even the biggest challenges with confidence. Coupled with this is their rich maritime tradition, a heritage that extends back to ancient times when the land was known as Ophir, Sheba, and Tarshish. This strong connection with the sea, ingrained in their roots, equips them with invaluable experience and knowledge in navigating and understanding the ocean. If properly harnessed, these strategic advantages of human spirit and experience can guide the Philippines towards victory against a formidable adversary like China, proving that often, prowess in battle is more about the quality of the people manning the ships than the power of the ships themselves.
