  • @johngriffin618
    @johngriffin618 4 года назад +4

    I don't know what you plan on doing with track links, but if you need to clean them I suggest getting a large drum that will fit a good amount of them, then filling it 1/3 of the way full with either sand or corn meal. Then devise a method to spin the drum on its axis, maybe a couple of tires that are free spinning for support and one to drive it. This will polish them and allow you to coat them with whatever you wish.

    • @cf6282
      @cf6282 4 года назад

      John Griffin I wonder if he is going to reuse them at all. Many pins were broken and have to be replaced. That will not be that hard. Welding on cap on one side and use the lathe to make it fit properly. But reconditioning the old ones is an option too. Let’s what they will come up with!

    Agree with all the favorable comments, but want to say that the tracks are probably seized up with what is called fretting rust. This is a real bastard to overcome. I encountered this in the water and waste engineering field where pulley wheels rusted onto their shafts. No compound available then (50 years ago) was effective in stopping this. No amount of pulling, pounding, or heating was effective. Reduced at times of gas axing the pulley wheel apart and starting again with a new wheel.
