Thank you sincerely for this excellent presentation. Thank you doctors and also your host. I am a retired US physician in and also a patient of open angle glaucoma. I agree, doctors, that BAK should be taken off the market. BAK has had a lifespan of 50 years and that's just long enough. I am impressed about the patient oriented steps being taken in Denmark and other European nations. Kudos to you. The US is far behind because health care here is a profit seeking "business", not a Hippocratic service. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, I am a senior ophthalmic surgeon for cataract, glaucoma and combined glaucoma and cataract surgeries. I have done high 10th of thousands surgeries in combined surgeries. I appreciate the presentations, inspiring, and on research level. I will closely follow this type of presentation .
Myself Mukesh Jain from India, suffering Glaucoma, TGF working hard for every possible improvement against this disease. Every information on this channel is very useful for Professionals, Students and Glaucoma patients. Thanks a lot.
Doctors are arrogant and so uncaring. We’ll be better off when they are all replaced with AI. At least then there won’t be any pretending to be interested or to care. Right now they are all robotic and have no empathy, anyway. We might as well just talk to a computer program. I’m tired of the stupid game. On their side, it’s all about the money.
Thank you so much to the Foundation and to the speakers - there's so much useful information & insight into BAK issues, and it was articulated so clearly. I'mvery fortunate to be prescribed preservative-free Ganfort though this partly off-set by Brinzolamide which is not yet available preservative-free. The point made wrt different bottle designs is a very well-made one too, sometimes it's a struggle to initially remove the secured bottle top, let alone know that some bottles dispense what feels like a bigger drop than others. Thank you to all for improving our understanding of this topic❤
Thank you very much for this information. I use two eye drops and both contain bak. I have all the side effects mentioned. I will discuss with my eye dr.
Very useful discussion info. I was prescribed Simbrinza (which is BAK) which I drop twice daily, morning and night. I was also given latanoprost (kept in fridge) and drop at night earlier than the BAK. My eye has had been constantly red due to eye drop and Ptosis. I am 80 next birthday. My eye consultant think I am doing well with 6/6 vision but irritation in Glaucoma eye. I think Covid and double flu one month later last year damaged the eye. Thanks for sharing.
You mean worsE. As someone whose family (two grandparents, one uncle and one aunt, and now my mother) suffer from different levelsnof glaucoma, you can trust me in thaz there are MAAAANY steps from glaucomas onset to "worst", eg total black blindness, including pain and sometimes eye removal. That said, good channel. I am just not quite sure why the presenter presented in english when it is clearly not her native language. Why not present in (likelynpolish, tzech or aimolar) and provide subtitles for those who have trouble with strongly accented english and/or languages flowing into each other like this. Thats all of useful criticism I can provide though. Very good othwrwise, keep going!
Surprised to see that you have completely omitted mention of selective laser trabeculoplasty or SLT. Multiple studies have validated the efficacy of SLT for glaucoma treatment and in fact promote it as first line therapy. It has greater efficacy than drops and no side effects. I wonder whether this is because you receive your funding from these pharmaceutical companies. Please review conclusions of LIGHT trial.
You are asking "why doctors still are prescribing drops with BAK?" well FDA aproved aspartame on diet sodas, and is proved to be CARCINOGEN, so do the math. and for dry eye you guys can use castor oil and also the active ingedient in castor oil looks alot alike a prostglandine , so again do the math.

is Pataday, an over-the-counter eye drop bad to use if you have glaucoma. Also, I use Vysulta for glaucoma. Does it contain preservatives?
no answer yet!
Good job
My doctor had me on 4 kinds of drops. My IOP's didn't lower, so I stopped taking them. Also stopped going to that doctor.
Thanks for this

Visu XL is preservative free and works very well. It's a bit on the expensive side.
