They were just one of the many reasons why "Motown" became very successful. It's founder Berry Gordie became a household name in the music industry. Created in the early 60's Motown would soon produce stars like the Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Just to name a few.
And in 1964 the Supremes came out with their first hit "Where did our love go." They will become one of music greatest girl groups in history with 12 number one songs.

1969 at the Anaheim convention center, I took my then girlfriend to see a concert with the Supremes, Watts 103 St Rythm Band, and the Righteous Brothers. I was in the second row on the aisle, and when the Supremes sang Baby Love, Diana came down to interact with some of the fans and sat briefly on my lap (10 seconds) while singing. One of the coolest memories I have from my younger days. And yes, she is as tiny as she seem to be.

Mary Wilson and especially Florence Ballard, who started the group, were never happy being relegated for the most part to singing background to Diana, who Berry Gordy favoured both professionally and personally. After a period as Diana Ross & The Supremes, Diana went solo replaced by Jean Terrell, sister of heavyweight boxer, Ernie Terrell.

Mary just recently passed away. So sad. I really wanted Diana to reunite with her.

Yes, Their 'High Energy' & 'Mary Sherrie & Susaye' albums from 1976 are Classic Gems.. Heard & danced to a lot of their songs from those albums in the Discos & Clubs in 76 & 77..

After they split up the group, the Supremes (without Diana Ross) had a hit with "Nathan Jones, You've Been Gone Too Long." In the disco era Diana Ross made "The Boss." Good tunes.
