I taped aluminum foil to the OUTSIDE of the window. I initially did it from the inside, but the glass still gets heat up. Aluminum foil on the outside solved that problem.
Yeah double glass is two (or multiple) layers of glass with argon gas trapped inside of it. The glass pane itself is a mini-greenhouse. If you reflect light through it twice through tinfoil then the glass starts heating. It's better to never let that light through and indeed cover the outside.
I worked a strip pit coal mine in 1984 was renting a trailer. The trailers were old and rundown. Work 12 hour shifts and so hot.The air couldn't keep up. Then it came to me.All the house trailers had aluminum on the Windows. I thought they would reflect the heat. I did ad I saw it made a big enough difference I could finally sleep. Still a little warm no so much better. I wonder why states that can't get much electric like California don't do things like this. You can hang clothes on a line to dry when almost dry take and put in a dryer for 10 are 15 minutes. It's hot and muggy here in Missouri I did these things and my last electric bill was 41dollars. Huge difference! .
Homeowners should be more concerned about installing foil inside all perimeter walls, to stop police x ray machines from spying on you, from yards away. They have the tech and not informing the public of such tech. They can see all heat signatures in your home, without any regulations.

That definitely makes more sense to do! Surely the same would be done with window film, on the outside as well!
Unfortunately, mine has to be done from the inside. The price you pay for being on the second floor. Hope it works.
