It's unethical because it doesn't exist. Microchips don't have GPS. You would have to implant something at least the size of a pack of gum, and it wouldn't last more than a few days before needing to be recharged. How the hell do you plan on recharging a cat?
Some rich people have a doorbell-activated trap door for when Jehovahs Witnesses ring. It usually leads down to a shaft to the crocodile pit or to a "Temple of Doom"-style dungeon full of venomous spiders or angry snakes.
A lot of these beautiful cats ends up living in misery when the owners realizes that they can't handle the destruction that comes with Savannah cat. They are wild and needs a lot more care than people understand what comes to feeding them example. They do not thrive with cat food, they need raw food diet that comes expensivie pretty fast. It how far Mondo got in few days shows how much these cats needs space to move around. Their living space should not be one room or small cage. They need space to get that exercise. If you do clips like this you should also bring out the negatives that comes with owning cat like this. How they are bread example. It is not without problems. With cute videos you end up selling idea from owning cat like this for people that don't know what they are getting into and result will be suffering for everyone but mostly for the animals that are forced to take part to this. Seriously disappointed that Discovery takes part to things like this.
I thought the same thing. Even 'cat daddy', has had a few episodes with them and he downplays anyone getting one for a family pet because they are essentially a wild animal and need things a normal family cannot provide. I think it is irresponsible for Discovery to have this clip glamorizing them and saying they are a great family pet...pounds will not keep them.
Cats with wild blood desperately need to be let loose. I rescued a half-wild cat from a shelter once, and he loved to be outside. However, he always came back in, mainly because he knew he could come back out. A lot of owners don't let their cats out for fear of their deaths, but the cats would rather live 1 year outside than 12 years in.
Mondo didn't actually go that far in that week. An adult male cat can, and will often, travel up to 20 miles per day to find a mate. That is one of the reasons that spaying keeps them safer, they just don't feel the need to travel as much. Basically, Mondo just went on a short walk-about. He was just checking out the neighborhood.
@@The_Keeper Depends on what breed you're talking about. European based domesticated cats always home. Irregardless of whether or not the Savannah wanted to breed, Savannahs do NOT home. They never home because their ancestors were nomadic grassland wildcats.
@@SergeantExtreme 🤦 the fact that these people are keeping them as pets doesn't change their inherent nature. The egotism of some people that makes them think they can keep something that is meant to be kept in the wild as a fucking pet. Were you hired by Joe Exotic?
I remember when I was growing up, we found 2 kittens. We kept them for a couple of months, but one of them was normal with a slight mean streak and the other seemed to have mental issues. The normal one would give us the killer look, but never attacked us. At night, she would just walk up and down on us while we slept in our beds like she was prowling and protecting us. We were just kids then. We always had cats, but they were different and we never knew what type of kittens we had gotten. They were loyal and liked to play along with cuddles, but we had to get rid of them because they would not use the litter box no matter how hard we tried. I’m looking at this video, and the Savannah cats look exactly like them and I am certain they were Savannah. Same spots, slender bodies, and big in size for cats under a year old.
should also include that they need taurine added into their diet and need grain free or preferably raw food. also they suffer from bone density issues when they aren't given enough calcium and taurine by their diet, and sometimes they have heart issues from what I've read, so 'no health problems' is bull shit, I even seem to remember cancer rates being very high if their fixed before a certain age. do your research and don't trust videos like these. If you can deal with the things above plus their hyperactive tendencies, destructive behavior, and loud nature, look into rescues for this breed -plenty of people have thought they could do it, realized they couldn't, and dumped their 20K cat, please don't add to the no.
They also have small livers compared to the rest of their body and some kinds of anesthesia can be deadly to them, if you get one you need to make sure you find a vet that is experienced in caring for them.
Savannahs live longer then your average domestic and have fewer health issues. Dietary needs are met with any ( high quality) soft and wet cat food mixture. Alot of dietary issues arise from savannahs due to people making their door and not doing their homework on a balanced diet and not genetics nor any lacks of (quality) cat food. Wanna know the truth about big kitties ask a actual owner. I have 2 sitting with me as I post this and just rescued another , member of several groups and member of a national rescue. 😁👍
Show me the research and get that says I'm wrong. I actually work with 2 national rescues and several vets who care for savannahs. I've owned a couple and rescued and rehomed several. Soo please tell me more about what you know for somthing you saw somebody post somewhere. Plus you don't even know the food I'm talking about anyways.🤣 If you have nothing intelligent to add please dont.
Of course these people were going to chuck out $40,000 for 2 cats because rescuing a common cat at the local shelter wouldn't impress their friends from the country club.
Hey now, if I had the money to throw away I would love to get one of these cats too. They seem like a great breed and would be cool to have around. Basically a wild cat, but domestic.
I still don’t know if that means he’s a celebrity that styles cats or a cat stylist that works for celebrities. Or even a stylist that works on celebrity cats…
Love the name that they are called… but that has nothing to do with it. In a lot of the states they are illegal to have it is because they say they do a lot of damage to the Bird population. They are SPECIALISTS on both Birds and Mice. They require you to have your LICENSE. Having your LICENSE is for a REASON. They are NOT a Domestic Cat. Some are even not allowed to be where people have their License. It’s kind of stupid if you get your License and are going to go through what is all involved in getting it. Part of getting your license is spending your required amount of time with them… learning THEIR behaviors… knowing what’s actually involved in having these Cats and HOW THEY ARE DIFFERENT than Domestic Cat. Yes… every version of Cat are Cat Behavior that is Universal to ALL… but their are their own behavior that is exclusive to the Species. For example to what these Cats SPECIALIZE IN. Things like that. Without the EXPERIENCE… You should not even THINK about trying to get one. That’s why they are illegal in places. Even with the people that want to get their Licenses. If you were to really want to get one… please… GET YOUR LICENSE FIRST!!!
@MerkinMuffly… It’s not about the city… it’s about what these Cats are Capable Of. The F1 and F2 … you MUST be LICENSED. The F3… Maybe. The F4 and F5… they don’t require Licensing. These Cats… Are Specialists. So is the Caracal. These two Cats Specialize in the same things. Birds and Mice. For the Caracat… its the same with the F1 and F2. Also… These Cats take Obligate Carnivore to the Big Cat Level. With these Cats… the Big Cat Safety Rules… MUST BE FOLLOWED. Reading their Body Language in SECONDS is also a MUST. I could get my license EASILY… but Why? The Serengeti is the Look Alike for the Serval. It is Domestic. The Pixie Bob is the Look Alike for the Bobcat. With the Pixie Bob… they CAN be CONFISCATED in that they LOOK so much like the Bobcat. It won’t be returned until Genetic Paperwork is shown that they are NOT the Bobcat. Pixie Bob are Domestic. They can be Confiscated by Wildlife Fish and Game and Animal Control until that Genetic Paperwork is shown by your Vets.
"Savannahs are low maintenance"? Alright, this whole "Cats 101" on Savannahs is complete bullshit. They require A LOT of maintenance. How do you think it run off and went 12 miles away? Every cat, and pet really, requires maintenance, but depending on the breed they might be more social, or might need more interaction, or might just have more energy in general so you'll have to play with them more often, and spend more time with them unless you want them ruining your whole house. Savannah cats are REALLY HIGH maintenance. They are still pretty wild. Having a scratching post around the house isn't going to cut it. They have a lot of energy, which is why having a sort of wheel (like hamster wheels but much larger, for cats) is recommended with Savannah cats, as well as with Bengal cats (which also happens to be a breed with a wild cat). You're going to need to play with them constantly, and spend a ton of time with them, if you don't want a ton of issues down the road. So no, they aren't just "twice the cat" in size, they are also twice the cat in energy, so far from "low maintenance".
People glamorize this cat so much, the only reason people get it is because of it having longer legs and spots, and use it for views on Instagram and TikTok
3:01 That's an Ocelot, not a Serval. They don't even come from the same continent. But then again, they said the black tear drops reflect light. No, the white line directly under the eye is for reflecting more light into the eye.
Savannah's aren't $20,000... They're anywhere from $500 for an F5 and $2000-$7000 for an F1 or F2. They're fully domesticated and the USDA and science defines them as such so there's not even an argument there as to if they are or not. I also found it humorous that some states ban them because they're worried they'll escape and harm the ecosystem when normal domesticated cats of every breed already do that, killing millions of birds and native wildlife every year. Yet no state will place a ban on normal cats LOL. The discrimination against savannahs is insane.
I think the modifications they had to make on their house to keep them from escaping is what added to the hefty price. Also, it sucks so much that they are illegal in GA but for now I’m ok with my Ragdolls 😊
I agree that all cats hiss, but did you hear the Savannah hiss? I know my cat hisses from time to time, but the hiss the Savannah makes is next level stuff... sounds frightening!
That didn't sound much different from a really pissed off housecat. If you think housecats don't hiss like that you've only ever heard them mildly annoyed.
house cat rarely hisses, I had a cat and she did it like maybe 5 times during her lifetime and it was very quiet, this cat just randomly hisses at things and much louder too
I have 2 of them. They are delightful, loving, and a pleasure to live with. Neither of mine have EVER hissed. That’s a joke. They’re like a puppy in a cat suit. They fetch, love dog toys, and follow you everywhere. I’d never own any other cat. 💖
We believe one of our cats is an F2. His markings are identical to most savannah cats, he loves water, and he definitely acts quite wild. He’s currently in his teething phase and I can definitely confirm they have really sharp teeth and claws. Luckily we didn’t have to pay 20,000 dollars we got him from a shelter.
Fuck rescues, there is no point in paying money for a cat from a rescue shelter that is going to force you to neuter or spay via a binding contract agreement when you go to adopt. Most rescues these shelters get these cats from off the street, and that is exactly where I get all my cats--FREE OF CHARGE AND CLEAR OF BEING FIXED! Not to mention I don't have to jump through hoops and pay fees to a stupid rescue whose sole goal is to make profits off doing what I can obtain for literally free of charge in my own literally anywhere in the country.
Nuclear Armament why is spaying/neutering such a big problem? I know it isnt free sometimes but it's a way to at least try to make sure the feral population stays down. Cats seem to be healthier when they're fixed and they don't feel the need to roam around to find a mate. Everything else you said had good points (rescues have quite a lot of hoops to go through to adopt an animal) but fixing seems a reasonable enough request.....
Nuclear Armament spaying or neutering your pet is part of being a responsible pet owner. If you can't fully provide for the animal, you should not have any pets at all. It's the same as getting them vaccinated; getting them fixed will help them live longer and happier lives.
True story! I'm the 🐈 cat person in my family. My little sister tried to raise a Savannah. She had to give Mogley up for adoption to a cat person who knew what he was doing with her, so the cat wouldn't have to take anxiety medication any more. My sisters are 🐕 dog raisers. I know how to do both. But I really love the larger breeds of cats. And the Savannah is definitely a serval, who is willing to please you if you give it what he wants when he goes for it, because he is active.
A GPS tracker on their collar too. A micro chip will only help if the cat is found by someone and brought to a shelter or vet. The GPS tracker will tell them were the cat is immediately.
@@helenholt1161 that’s what I’ve always been looking into. Microchip is great if they manage to get caught by someone willing to examine for one, but caught by some entitled asshole, they’ll claim a free cat and you could never see them again unless they’re dumb enough to bring them to a vet for an emergency purpose. GPS means you’re not left to their mercy.
I have three "domestic" mutt cats. All of them were rescued from the wilds of the City of Bayonne, Newark or Jersey city, NJ. None of them are exactly "cuddly" but when they choose, they are very affectionate. Accept there terms and they reward you
I delivered a tv to some people that had a Savannah, and I instantly fell in love with him! He was huge and very friendly, and he acted more like a dog than a cat. I love how loud he purred, and I wish I could have one!
I know majority aren’t, everybody on Instagram and TikTok just flex’s them for views and they lock them in a small garbage house and encourage other broke people who don’t have anything better to do to buy them
The cat at 1:20 has markings identical to a feral cat that I adopted in Abu Dhabi. Brought her home and she lived for 20 years, was the best pet I ever had. Sadly passed away on 24th September.
In Abu Dhabi? Yep, probably somebody's $20k status symbol that hit the road, lol. Sorry you lost your companion of 20 years, but you will carry your memories of her forever. And keep a sharp ear up, you may even hear her checking in from time to time to see what you're up to.
@@AbsentWithoutLeaving You couldn't be further from the truth. She was a starving street kitten with a B&W mother who who came every morning to my door begging for food. One day she started coming alone as it was possible the mother cat had been killed by the municipal cat-catchers, then I had to take her in. The only money I paid was for an import licence and air fare when I brought her back to Britain and then six months quarantine. Apart from being blind in one eye, her face was almost identical to the cat in this vid but the spots on her flanks were a little less distinct. While she was young she had a remarkable ability to jump a six-foot fence and she had an amazing tree-climbing ability. I am sure she must have been fathered by an Arabian desert cat or a Cerval.
@Scott M oh pipe down ! My two TABBY cats are very athletic, have good bonding with humans even know there own name, any cat can be walked on a leash if you train it lol xD
@Scott M it is relevant, trying to be a know it all when it fact you presume 😑 So what if the cat is trained or not the point is he's doing what he's being taught, Obviously you know nothing about tabby Cats, they have African in them as well maybe not too wild but it's in them, let's not forget they were domesticated ! In fact My cat even talks back to me in his language when I communicate through certain noises 😛😛😛 So nope it's not that he looks at me for food, it's a bond and imprint as well, bonds happen any pet dog cat rabbit bird, talk to a animal trainer he'll tell you the same
Right? If I, a two-legged, middle aged human (in not so particularly spectacular physical condition) can take a leisurely 12 mile afternoon hike, then why the fudge should anyone with even just minimal brain activity be so surprised that a four-legged, semi-wild animal of any kind, let alone a semi-wild cat is able to cover 12 miles in a couple of weeks?!?!?! Most likely that cat was roaming around much longer distances during the period it was free, feeding on birds and other people's small pets (and children😉), and was simply randomly captured 12 miles away from his original prison. Yet the brilliant humans excitedly concluded that the cat managed to travel an "astonishing" 12 miles away from their home. 🤷♂️
Right? Imagine your privilege when you can afford to just dump 40k on two cats. I can only just afford my two house cats, giving them the things they need to lead a healthy life.
@Vladimir Putin Any economic system that has 1% of the population sitting on 40% of the entire country's wealth while 34 _million_ people live in poverty is hands down a broken system. Defending it in favor of blaming the growing number of struggling victims just shows how ingrained its values are in people. People do not deserve to struggle to put food on the table, go without a home, or fall into an inescapable financial ditch for being "just dumb", and to insist they do is really callous.
I'm glad to admit that I got my hands on a Savannah /European short hair, breeding accident. Payed 20 Euros for him, what a bargain. And I can proudly say that he is the sweetest accident that I'm known
Courtney Earnhart Getting a kitten is not roulette. Their behaviour as a kitten will pretty much stick with them into adulthood. You can still influence it's behaviour when it is growing up though. You are the primary provider for the cat and it's alpha, so they will still listen to you if you know how to train a cat. Most pet stores get rescue cats and dogs because there are too many for shelters to keep all of them. The only animals you will really find that are not rescued would be anything that lives in a cage or tank for the majority of its life.
I'm a dog person,, but I would never want an animal from a shelter. There is a reason why these animals are in shelters, nobody gives away well bred, good animals, it's like going to a prison to find a wife. Good pets come from breeders.
1:11 They worry about Savannah but don't worry about the ecological disaster that is the domestic cat. I am starting to realize that our government is run by idiots.
And what's your solution? Banning cats? Collecting them from people's homes and killing them to save your precious environment? Screw that. You are a horrible person if you care more about "the environment" than about cats.
Dark Genie Bitch that just shows you didn't grow up there rather your parents migrated from there and now you have no clue what goes on over there. Or maybe you just know the low level people who just keep dogs outside

Dark Genie You're very stupid. For me, this isn't an argument worth having because I'm not so bothered trying to prove something that is so easy to find on the Internet
I know it’s risky to take genetics like that to someplace other than their original home, but I do at least understand their perspective. There is a beauty to this creature.
I find it funny when I see a simple video on RUclips, on a particular breed of cat for example, then scroll through the comments to see loads of people kicking off at each other about it...
What do you mean the wild side of the Savannah? What about the wild side of every cat? They are all wild at heart, and their wildness is ready to jump in your face at the least provocation.
Kitties are the perfect/sized perfect little pets, very beautiful. There’s no need to genetically tamper with them and turn them into confused mutants. There are millions of kitties that need adopting. Wealthy people need to stop making cats for status symbols.
The cat that was lost, why didn't it have a collar on it? I think I'd have it chipped also. But bottom line, it got home and that's the main thing. We saw a Savannah cat yesterday, it was beautiful. It was very young, so still fairly small. Love the look of this beautiful animal!

I wonder if you possibly had Serval cats since they tend to spray everywhere
A lot of young wild cats have spots, like mountain lions
I’m so glad they got Mondo back. My Savannah disappeared without a trace. It’s more heartbreaking not knowing what or where. Awesome cats.
should also include that they need taurine added into their diet and need grain free or preferably raw food. also they suffer from bone density issues when they aren't given enough calcium and taurine by their diet, and sometimes they have heart issues from what I've read, so 'no health problems' is bull shit, I even seem to remember cancer rates being very high if their fixed before a certain age. do your research and don't trust videos like these.

So a Savannah cat isn't allowed in Savannah, Georgia, sad.

And that dumb bitch in the beginning said she had two
Savannah's aren't $20,000...
Savannahs are banned in Australia, but weirdly Bengals aren't

Ken N this I can agree with!! Yes
Ken N now that's what I'm talking about!

Nice neighborhood .. He obviously has good taste . LOL.. Thank you for being so kind to this beautiful boy.
Kitties are the perfect/sized perfect little pets, very beautiful. There’s no need to genetically tamper with them and turn them into confused mutants. There are millions of kitties that need adopting. Wealthy people need to stop making cats for status symbols.
2:15 I find the mechanical noises from the cats ears moving Hilarious 😂
The cat that was lost, why didn't it have a collar on it? I think I'd have it chipped also. But bottom line, it got home and that's the main thing. We saw a Savannah cat yesterday, it was beautiful. It was very young, so still fairly small. Love the look of this beautiful animal!
Mister Goat yeah
That’s me and my F1 boy, Mutegi at 0:07 seconds in (the car jumping above the 7’ doorway)! That was about 14 years ago. Mutegi is now 15 and doing great. He has no idea he was on TV. LOL 😂
