Thank you, Chris and Sam, thank you for continuing with The Warning, because even though the Villarreal sisters did not have the skills as developed then as they do today, this presentation is still a true gem. As far as I know, the Dakota bar in Monterrey no longer exists, but this video keeps its memory alive in a way that, I'm sure, the owners of the place never imagined.
Chris, when I first heard When I'm Alone (TedX 2017), it took me back to my youth and the early 80s. What it is, is timeless. It's a perfect rock song written in a classic style...by a 15 year old Dany. Pau has evolved her technique and is a beast in her workouts. Of course, she had to, because they're playing longer shows. Their training is pretty darn impressive.
I like all versions of this song. This one is is closer to the studio version. But I think the be I prefer is how it was performed at Teatro Metropolitan. Having said that, I'm interested to see what they compile from the recent three special production shows they did Mexico back in October '23. Her acoustic version of this song was emotionally charged and each time she did it there was something singularly lremarkable about it. This also proves Dany is a gifted songwriter in her own right.
Apparently Dany wrote this song for assignment when she was away at school. Dont really know the whole story but being away from her family and sisters for a long period of time prompted the lyrics. Im sure she got an A+ because she really put her soul into this one .. its a crowd favorite to this day no dout .
Most of these performances are just magic. I agree her drum instructors have done a good job. Her drumming now seems really technically great. Seems like she drums just as hard but with less effort.
Gents, it would be interesting for you to discuss what you have learned about songwriting and arranging from listening to the bands you react to. For example, Pau often does the Ringo thing of ending a section of the song with a fill that stops before the "1" of the next bar, thereby throwing us off the cliff onto whatever comes next at "1". And how you might apply these ideas to your own music that you could deconstruct for us.
There's a sister act who guys might be familiar with, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart? Saw them back in the last century on the day Elvis died. These young ladies have a series of videos from The Stone Pony in Asbury Park back in August of last year that are pretty good. And yes if you did Teatro Metropolitan this song started out more stripped down with Dany letting the audience finish the verse before the tempo picks up.
*When I'm Alone* is Dany's song... Ale and Pau accompany with only their instruments... no harmonies or backing vocals... Dany wrote this when the girls were at Berklee Music College (aka BMC) in Boston back in 2015 attending the summer session they offer(ed)... she got very homesick and also had a homework task to write a song... she hadn't any ideas, time was running out, and being homesick was devastating... she recorded a teary vlog about it... afterward she realized she could harness the emotions and pain she was feeling to write her song... i haven't heard what grade she got for it but many of us hope it was an A+... Dany has also stated several times that when she writes a song, it is from her heart and whatever emotions she is feeling at the time... so here we are enjoying this truly heartfelt song of loneliness and heartache... speaking of Berklee Music College, their concert at "Liceo" (basically Spanish for "learning place" or "high school") had multiple purposes... for one purpose, the story is that they needed something to submit to Berklee showing Ale's and Pau's chops and how well they played their instruments... this because both of them were less than 15 years old which is/was the age cut off for the summer program they were wanting to attend... so each of them chose a song to show off their talents... IIRC, those songs were "Hysteria" for Ale, "Everlong" for Pau, and "Crazy Train" for Dany... apparently BMC accepted their submissions because all three girls attended at the same time... while they were there they did vlogs to send to Ellen DeGeneres to keep her and her show up to date on how they were doing while at BMC... this because Ellen and Target gave each of the girls a check to help pay for them to attend the summer session at BMC... TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA
I really like your commentary and your musical analysis. We're all waiting for new music from The Warning. I hope you'll hang in there with us. Also, looking forward to your new music.
It's a small thing but Pau has added muscle lifting weights during her workouts plus she has moved to the heavier 5b sticks from the more common 5a. Apparently that is much easier for her now and she doesn't break as many sticks. If you have seen Pau drumming at 6 when she started she had to hit hard to get the sound out of the full size kit. I don't know if you have seen them but: The Warning's Paulina Villarreal Vélez - GEAR MASTERS Ep. 475 ruclips.net/video/pIo-5Htb9zA/видео.html FYI Dany is Ep. 471 and Ale is Ep. 473
Oldest song still in their current setlist. One of like 3 or 4 songs Dany wrote by herself. I have a handwritten copy by Dany of the lyrics. Waiting for the official video of this song from the Oct 2023 shows to be released. It is so emotional. Pau did 2 songs at the piano during those shows that brought everyone to tears.
Looking back I see that you reacted to this song live at the Teatro Metropolitan as it’s in you general The Warning playlist (I do see that a Within Temptation video has accidentally crept onto that playlist too). As for keyboards, the first album has a lot of piano and some synth on it and QotMS also has a bit. Error doesn’t and now when they play older songs, they either use subtle backing tracks or Dany moves the keys part to guitar, for example on the opening of ‘Survive’.
Pau played the keys at the private show in London and again at the Pepsi Center. They have said that it has just been too difficult to take keys for a 30 minute set. That and their equipment load keeps growing as Dany adds guitars, especially mid-tour...LOL
Show me the light from the Dakota bar has some GREAT guitar work from Dani. Such an underrated song. They should remaster it. Yo bad the EP is not available available anymore☹️
Is it wrong that I look forward to the glorious, epic transition almost as much as I look forward to watching the video.. Well- it’s a big difference, but the closest thing.
It doesn’t look like you’ve watched their 2017 TedX performance? Thats where I had assumed you’d heard this. If you haven’t watched the TedX, you gotta! One of the seminal moments in their evolution.

100% agree.
Not saying I’m a TW fanboy, but if they sold Dany’s butterfly shirt at their merch store…I’d rock one! 😎
I would be right behind you in line.
My only question would be does it come in men's XXL? I like a bit of room and I'm not confident enough to pull off a women's petite small.
@@mt4design2 On a shirt that big, The butterfly’s would become lost. People might mistake them for ketchup stains. 😅
@@RandyTWA 🤣🤣🤣 I guess it’s the women’s petite. We know Dany herself says, “I am small.”
@@mt4design2Dany’s not small, she”s “SMOL”…lol.
Truth is DPA are all ten feet tall onstage.
This is an awesome Dany's song!!
So young and talented girls!
They did a superb job at Dakota bar!
Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡
The acoustic solo version Dany performed this past fall in Guadalajara, CDMX, and Monterrey Mexico was absolutely stunning.
Apparently Dany wrote this song for assignment when she was away at school. Dont really know the whole story but being away from her family and sisters for a long period of time prompted the lyrics.
Im sure she got an A+ because she really put her soul into this one .. its a crowd favorite to this day no dout .
And that school was Berklee College of Music and she was with her family in Boston but away from her country (and her food) ;)
And her friends. I think that was what bothered her most. But then her friends told her they would be there when she returned home.
Most of these performances are just magic. I agree her drum instructors have done a good job. Her drumming now seems really technically great. Seems like she drums just as hard but with less effort.
The Warning RULES!

Dany's song! 🦋
Ale is a supermodel playing bass
Your Warning reactions just keep getting better! That was great! Thanks guys!
Don't forget Lzzy and Arejay Hale of Halestorm are brother and sister

This is my favorite song by them. It's like she wrote the song for me.
"Huele a melón" 😂
At this young age they already have "it" 🦋⚡🦋

Almost got these lyrics, ended up getting Crimson Queen instead🤷♂️
@@MattS-p8h good choice both songs Dany wrote
I love that Dany wrote this at 15! The only song that see sings alone with no harmonies.!!!!
I agree Pau is getting better. Just watched a live version of More and her groove on that is really in the pocket good.
Great! Thank you. Gracias por continuar esta serie!

Pau has always had the laptop with her. She has always controlled all of that stuff.
DPA fans call this song "Huele a melón" which is Spanish for "smells of melon". One of those in-jokes from The Warning fandom.
THIS is DANYS SONG......PERIOD!!!!!!!!

They played this one, a few months ago, back home in Monterrey, Mexico and the crowd made Dany cry. ruclips.net/video/mSJe0iOhksU/видео.html

"I can offend three cultures in one sentence!" 😅😅 just kidding, you're doing good guys, keep it up.
Pretty sure Pau is full sized in this video. Ale though...
Surely you've seen this before?
:D. Whatya suppose she weighted back then? 80lbs?
Funny you didn’t mention the Gallagher brothers….. 😂
try not to cry with this acoustic version ruclips.net/video/mSJe0iOhksU/видео.html
😋 Pau never got any taller than she at 12 or 13 😉 hehe
I will check out ur vibe....
no offence... but The Warning is a very deep rabbit hole there is ZERO going back from if you are a musician
I smell 🍈 🍉 🍈 🍉
the warning are sooo overrated
