Tampa to Bangkok Flight (Lufthansa) and Our Fail in Munich

  • It's been eight years since we've been to Thailand so we were long past due for a visit. And this is our first time flying with Lufthansa airlines.
Here's our flight itinerary from Tampa to Bangkok:
    Tampa (TPA) to Dulles (IAD)
    Dulles (IAD) to Munich (MUC)
    Munich (MUC) to Bangkok (BKK)
The crazy part was that we only had 20 minutes after landing in Dulles until the flight to Munich started boarding. I wish we had filmed this!
But we had to take two people-movers and go through several escalators to get there but we did make it just before boarding began.
Since we had a 10-hour layover in Munich, our plan was to leave the airport and spend a little time in downtown Munich.
But we had some issues with that, and spent a bit of time trying to find out where we could store our luggage while exploring (we only brought carry-ons but did not want to lug those around Munich).
We eventually found a place in the Munich airport where we could pay a small fee (less than 10 Euros). But by that time, we decided to just stay at the airport.
So we walked around (Munich is a decent-sized airport) and got a bite to eat at this place called Weiner's.
So, was Munich a fail for us? Not really. We reminded ourselves that our ultimate destination was Thailand and at that point, it wasn't worth risking missing our flight.
Our final flight from Munich to Bangkok was smooth.
Now let's talk about Premium Economy and who it may be worth it for.
We chose Premium Economy for our entire flight for two reasons:
    - We wanted more overall room
    - We wanted to sit together without having someone else in our row
For those reasons alone it was well worth it. Especially for these super long flights.
The boarding process is also far less hassle as the Premium Economy section is a smaller group of people.
The downside is the cost, of course.
And the fact that we still had to pay extra on top of that to choose our seats.
I would think that Premium Economy would cover that.
The only other downside is that once you fly with more room like this it's probably going to be difficult to go back to regular economy seating.
All that said, we made. Our route going back to the US will be a little different (Bangkok to Vienna, Vienna to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Tampa).
Would be fly Lufthansa again? Sure. Everyone was pleasant and all of the flights were on-time.
    Stay tuned for more!

I don't understand what made you take so long to leave the airport. I know MUC as very easy and user friendly.
