    As much as I want the WNBA to thrive, the female players need to keep in mind that basketball is a business. It’s very difficult for the WNBA to get close to being equal to the NBA when the women’s league isn’t generating the amount of revenue that is necessary simply to break even

Smaller basketballs, shorter lengths of games and quarters and shorter 3 point line…..but lowering the rim is so beneath them 🙄. If that’s the case and their pride is so important let’s just let the WNBA continue to lose money and eventually fold. @aceofdimndz0419 Месяц назад +4

      @@cobra7282 it's about excitement and getting the crowd involved in the game so they can feel entertained. Lowering the rim would work and here's why. The AVERAGE height in the wnba is 6ft. So watching women who aren't as athletic as the men, and can't jump as high, dunk on a reasonable rim level would be both entertaining and bring more money and viewers to the league. And the people who love the game wouldn't talk trash because we understand that the women are very skilled but they just aren't as athletic as the guys. But we would still watch the wnba for our favorite player and for the love of the game. In my opinion.

    • @cobra7282
      @cobra7282 Месяц назад +1

      @@aceofdimndz0419 I understand all of this. I simply don't agree that people will find the dunking all that entertaining. What makes a dunk so impressive in the men's game is the athleticism that is allowing them to do it. The women will still be the same athletically, but with artificially lower rim so they can dunk. I am sure some people will find it entertaining, but I don't think the masses will. Just look at CC, I doubt she can even come close to dunking and yet the entire nation is enamored with her. If she brings eyes in than people will see the preexisting talent in the league and probably be just fine with the product as it is.

    Maaan!!! This really triggers me... NBA is carrying the WNBA finances, for years, because they believe in the growth and development of the business and that someday WNBA could be a sustainable league. Women are being proportionally being paid more than the man in therms of revenue. Man basketball players seem to be the only ones trying to find possible solutions to increase viewership and the WNBA athletes get offended by it. Like, they could just say no, thank you for trying to help but I don't think that's the solution, instead they get triggered like it's some kind of criticism, when they already have a smaller and lighter ball, a 3 point line closer to the hoop and 2 less minutes in each quarter. These got me wishing that the NBA stop babysitting the WNBA and invest that money in the All-Stars Weekend to rescue something that isn't ungrateful...

Obviously, this sounds dumb at first but the nba brings in 10.58 billion dollars per season, compared to the 200 million the WNBA brings in. There are obvious reasons for that. The WNBA has fewer teams and they play less than half the games per season that the NBA does. Also, WNBA players don't even have chartered flights to travel to road games; players have to fly commercial. I understand why some of the current WNBA players are upset about salaries, but it was only a few years ago that women in the NCAA were able to make money on NIL contracts, so hopefully Caitlin Clark and the ladies who follow her will bring more eyeballs to the league and increase ticket sales.

    I think you covered this perfectly... you show the undeniable math, but you are optimistic about the future and you wish them well. I wish them well too, and its clear that the sport is improving and becoming more marketable. The WNBA hopefully has programs to assist its players in promoting both the league and its stars, so that they can make money outside of their salaries like Caitlin Clark has. Cameron Brink probably made some money with her New Balance deal as well, and neither player has logged in a minute for the WNBA. The names and likeness deal for the NCAA has definitely benefited the WNBA, because the players can market themselves before they are drafted. Hopefully that will lead to a positive snowball effect for both the WNBA and their players, and the economics will become better for both.

  • @baileyduffy4531
    @baileyduffy4531 Месяц назад +1

    I don’t care who gets mad at this because it’s the truth, these players need to shut up and focus on improving the product first before worrying about the money they getting paid. If your product is crap your viewership will be crap, if you’re more focused on messaging (WNBA is pushing LGBTQ and BLM messaging, which from stories I’ve read about the culture in the WNBA it’s just toxic you get hated if you straight and it’s even worse if you’re a straight white woman). The comment about revenue sharing is bs because the last I looked the women get more from revenue shares than the men do and the revenue share is actually more than what the base contracts are. The league only plays three months and only has 12-15 teams in it, of course you aren’t making money because the season is so short that when it finally starts getting “interesting” it’s over. They always complain oh we aren’t making enough money we’ll get a business degree and figure out how you can actually help the league grow. The league also needs a better marketing team to get viewers on the product, like I want to see the WNBA grow and prosper and hopefully these next few generations of players can do that but the talent isn’t where it needs to be, the marketing isn’t where it needs to be and finally the mentality isn’t where it needs to be.

    The problem with the WNBA has always been that no one has been willing to tell them the truth. And the truth is their product is unwatchable, and their players are unlikable. Unwatchable: at just over 82 ppg, they score a whopping 32 ppg less than their male counterparts. That's trash as well as very boring. Unlikable: besides the constant complaining and lecturing male sports fans about how we have hidden hate for women because we don't want to watch a WNBA game, they also make stupid divisive political statements like Kneeling for the National Anthem and wearing "VOTE WARNOCK" T-shirts. IMO, an organization that has to be subsidized in order to remain solvent should not be making divisive political statements. The WNBA is going to get it's chance now with Caitlin Clark and others coming into the league. Let's see if they actually learn any lessons, or if they continue to be stubborn and defensive to criticism.

    Also, simple business concept: you're paid what you are worth to the company. I work in the hospital as an RN. I get paid less than an attending physician because an attending's scope of practice, education and experience are more valuable to the hospital than my experience/education/scope as an RN. I get paid more than an LNA because my experience/education/scope are more valuable than theirs. It's not saying that any of us are more or less important or better/worse. It's simply saying that, from a business standpoint, an attending physician will generate more revenue for the hospital than an RN or an LNA. I mean, patients travel across the world to see a particularly skilled doctor. I've never heard of anyone traveling around the world for a great nurse. So the attending gets paid more.
    Same thing for the WNBA players. Far more fans will pay $400+ to see Steph Curry play than they will to see Candace Parker. Far more people will tune in to TV to watch that game. Far more people will buy GSW swag than whatever team Parker played for. It doesn't mean that women are better/worse...it means that they are less valuable because they have much less ability to generate revenue. Therefore, they get paid less. Welcome to capitalism. Definitely not a perfect system, but definitely better than anything else I've dealt with.

    The problem with comparing the wnba with the 70s era is that in 1970 (the 25th season) the nba was able to have an avg player salary of 90k in 70s money so it was still bringing in enough money to pay its players unlike the wnba

    When I was in my 20 s I once played at a elementary school that had 9 foot rims. It was a blast.

    They already have a different a 3-point line, different balls, shorter quarters but a lower rim is crossing the line and disrespectful?? Lol what 😅 These women need a reality check and to understand that in order to be paid more they need to appeal to more people and therefore generate more revenue. They’re solely dependent on NBA’s money but sure a lower rim is “disrespectful” 🙄

    The League is still in its adolescence. I'm going to date myself, but I remember when the WNBA was announced back in 1996 when I was in Elementary school. The NBA was heading into its 50th anniversary at the same time. And if women are looking for the same amount of pay, they need to extend the length of the WNBA Season. It is hard to justify women wanting the same compensation as men for only playing the game for 3 to 5 months versus the 6 to 9 in the NBA. It's a natural process where the WNBA is now and hopefully, women like Clark and Reese can generate that much excitement akin to Magic and Bird.
