- Tori is a singer that sounds so much like Karen Carpenter.She doesn't have the male harmonies but she has the range. I've heard her acapella and it was amazing. She doesn't sound 100% like Karen but dang close.

She records all of Richard's parts in her harmonies. This is a new version of Superstar produced by Allan Licht and engineered by Grammy award winner Pete Tokar. This updated version was written just for Tori to record with them. This Superstar is available on all digital music platforms for purchase, download, etc.
Her take on The B/D Medley is a masterpiece. I searched to the best of my ability and she is the only non-Carpenter result I get and I kept scrolling and rewording. First new version in 53 years. Thank you for the information. I figured the music track had to me original/licensed to be on Amazon. Merry Christmas, Darling is to me, the best of the three but all are superb.

Correction: Sally Olson did record with Ned Mills as Richard, a version 4 years prior, they do a Legacy act at Planet Hollywood in Vegas. As I write this it is the 53rd anniversary of the original performance.

Tori is an exceptionally talented singer and musician. Her natural voice is very close to Karen Carpenter's, but IMO is even better. With Tori's addition of the layered harmonies, she has taken the Carpenters' sound up a few notches......improving and giving tribute to the beloved Carpenters performances at the same time. Amazing!
I'd hate to have to live on the difference it's so close.

Beautiful voice and I think you could single handedly bring back the mellow sounds of the 60’s and 70’s. Carpenters were top of the charts in 1970 when we were married and hold a true soft spot for both of us. 👍

There are a few videos out there with her singing with a back up group, and they even compare it to the carpenters, and it is almost impossible to tell who’s who. I just love her voice. I was always a carpenters fan years ago, and I always used to compare Karen’s voice too deep, dark chocolate!

Thank you, thank you & thank you young lady and your awesome musicians! I had a box set of The Carpenters in CD Format when it came out in the early/mid 80's. Growing up in the 60's and 70's we were introduced to, and liked all kinds of music but my buddies ragged on me about liking the Carpenters. One of my friends that really ragged on me asked to borrow my cd box set in the late 80's...which shocked me. I agreed to and you know what, I never saw that box set again haha. The point is, great music is timeless so stick with what you are doing Tori and you will become a Legacy just like Karen. Ps - Do you sing and play drums at the same time? That would be icing on the cake!

Hi Carole! Was there an issue with the medley? I didn’t see this version of Superstar. Great find! She has a full range voice. There is a short where she covers Olivia Newton-John and is waaaaaay up there. I dare say a wider range than Karen especially on the high side. I mean she can go low, she’s doing Richard’s part in the harmonies. There’s another short, heck many shorts, where she explains how she did the layering with her Tascam mixer.
If there was no problem with the B/D Medley I’d still request it to see her sing and the crazy harmonies she does. I’m so glad you like her, too. She really is something special.

@@Carolereacts yeah but, Tori nailed it. Yes it’s the Jazzy version. Are you familiar with a Carpenters later redo where they did it again with a couple more songs BUT slowed it down to a more “Bacharach” traditional tempo? It recently surfaced. It was on a Japanese only record for years. One of the Carpenters posters found it and it’s on RUclips. I only recently heard it. I’ll link it below in a minute. Not a request unless you like it then you can share it out there.

Thanks for the link to the jazzy version, I really enjoyed it. This showed off Karen’s versatility, plus she seemed to enjoy singing this medley.

The “Jazzy” version that Richard had second thoughts on was performed 53 years ago TODAY (11/8) on The Ed Sullivan Show. It’s on RUclips too. That’s the one Tori covered. Tori’s channel is her name. Impressive new artist. Understatement.

Tori has an amazing voice, the best I have heard since Karen herself. But this particular song emphasizes the lower register, and that is the one place you can tell them apart. The song "We've Only Just Begun" suits her better, and her cover of that one is incredible.
Tori's not 100% sounding like Karen but she does hit all the same notes. You should check out the Carpenters vs Tori Holub video it will blow your mind.
It's pretty close to Karen Carpenters' vocal, but really, can there ever be anyone to match her amazing voice? I've heard Ms. Holub being compared to KC. That seems like a very daunting standard to live up to. 🏆

Tori will be the first to tell you, she doesn’t think she sounds like Karen. She’s modest. What she has done is use some of Karen’s vocal techniques, combined with her Alto voice and you have something quite delicious to the ear. Have you heard her cover of Merry Christmas, Darling? Carole reacted to it so go give a listen. I rate the “Karen Factor” on that one at 90%. Now, on Tori’s channel, it’s her name, she covers Olivia’s; Have You Never Been Mellow. Explain that, to me. 🤷🏻♂️🤯

Still hoping for The Medley! 🙏 I think it’s only one of two I don’t think you’ve reacted, too. The other is My Christmas Dreams, which is where Superstar is. BTW it was you who showed me Lauren’s Topic page. At that point I didn’t know. Another BTW the other Joe who comments, Joemachoman, that’s her dad! Each singer has a unique voice. Karen's voice was a little darker and more nasal, while Tori's is a little rounder and sweeter. Otherwise, Tori nails Karen's vocal style.
You're right your voice is like fingerprint unique to each person .there are differences but it's close.
A lovely rendition of this terrific song, however its similar to Diana Krall and not the Carpenters

@@Carolereacts Tori still does a great job Carole. She has a wonderful talent and although its a similar style to Diana Tori does make this her own. I do agree Tori has a great talent and I love the way she completes all of the over layered vocals for example when she did the Bacharac melody.. that was terrific.

If it’s anything you were the first reactor I asked and it was you who taught me about Lauren’s Topic channel where the three other songs resided. But I requested The Medley so 🤷🏻♂️. We got nothing else new for now. And it’s still the only long form video. So please… 🙏. BTW have you checked out her Short of THE Beatles, Because? “Psychedelic Tori” but so amazing and A Capella and sung Lower than the Fab Four did it. Goosebumps.
