I am in shock. I've seen some computer analysis of Tori's voice because I could not believe she sang this. It is insane how close to Karen's voice she is. thank you Shawn and Mel. I will be watching `this young lady's career. I think God gives gifts. This woman is unbelievable.
To call this a cover is a disservice to Tori and her collaborators. This is a beautiful reincarnation and tribute to the Carpenters, that I have never seen emulated since the Carpenters were on the scene. Thanks for a nice reaction!
Before I watch your reaction: I'm a boomer and I know a lot of this is nostalgia. But, her sheer talent is amazing and beautiful and awesome and just blew me away. I immediate subbed to her channel and told her please please pretty please with sugar on top, do a Christmas album!!! ******************** I cried a little the first time I watched her video. I'm a boomer and this song, and Karen's music, means a heck of a lot to me. I was skimming through people's thumbnails of reacting to this, saw y'all's channel and HAD to come and see what you two thought about it. Just like you started the video all over, I started your reaction all over. :P I had Mel's reaction, too! Listening to this is musically like being wrapped up in a warm blanket. Guys! What you DON'T know is that Tori put together myriad covers of Carpenters songs in her home studio. She actually sang all the parts and overdubbed them. She actually has a demonstration of how she did this in a video in which she plays back various parts of the harmonies one at a time, then plays them all at the same time. She does this on a multitrack deck and also uses a highly advanced program called a sequencer to put the parts directly into a computer. If that isn't enough, she also has covers of Olivia Newton-John, among other artists. As you know, Olivia wasn't a contralto like Karen, so Tori covering Olivia demonstrated the broadness of her vocal range. But not just that she could get into soprano territory, Tori effects a lighter, airier sound like Olivia's. She also has done a few songs of her own. Her vibrato adds to the quality of her covers because she can hold a note without the vibrato waivering. She's nothing short of phenomenal.

This is absolutely unbelievable. Karen Carpenter is, was and will always be my favorite. I was literally crushed when she passed at such a young age and never thought there would ever be another voice that could come anywhere close to matching Karen's angelic sound. This was my 1st wedding song. Played during the ceremony. Only the original song by Karen.never heard of Tori. This wedding was in the 80's. It came out in 1970 so was old when I got married but I loved that song was my first marriage....

Hey Shawn & Mel! An update. For the last 4 days I’ve been attending the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration. Tori and her dad were there for the whole run. On the last night dinner and conversation with Chris May. Well, things changed rapidly when Chris was introduced as “The Authors of “Carpenters: The Musical Legacy” (Mike the 3rd author was sick and video apologized for not coming) Out from behind a wall in the ballroom came Chris May and RICHARD CARPENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! The crowd as you may imagine, 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 He was not scheduled to be there. He was interviewed and chatted with Chris for about 90 minutes or so. Then when it all officially ended, RC hung around (Mary too) signing albums chatting. Then! Tori was hustled behind the wall and to the adjoining room. Then RC went back there and met with the people in that room, including Tori. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 It’s official! I didn’t eyewitness the meeting. But it happened and she was on cloud 9 for a good bit afterwards. ❤ Joe

I've heard some people doubt that this was actually her or whether they played games with the vocals. But a few days ago, she posted a video of her performing Yesterday Once More live in a club. She said it was her first real live performance ever. It's all Tori.

It’s one of us or a scattered single. Thank goodness for Dan this summer, other than a few short videos it’s been quiet. I know stuff is in the works. Jim is slaving on Close To You, a music video was shot for Something/Believe and Tori’s self written original. I absolutely love the Sabrina/Joni mashup. I chat with Dan almost every day. He’s as nice as he seems. 😊 it’s just that she needs a breakout video/song. With the new 3 minute Short limit, I have more hope. Keep commenting and asking. Look for the cheaper reactors and see what works. I’m now in the 5-10 range and some hit well. All are amazed. She’s still essentially a secret we all know. Be well, Joe

Ya'll have said the 50's, 60's and 70's had all the great singers, and they're no longer any great singers today. I believe there are just as many great singers today, it's just that the massive corporations that have taken over the music industry no longer promote them; the same with great songwriting and song production. Tori's a throwback and I believe Mel is a throwback, but the music industry isn't interested in putting out beautiful music with great singers. BTW, I would like to hear Mel sing a full sung acapella, or karaoke, in a video. I bet she's good, based on her voice singing her name.

As a carpenter fan from the 70's, she is good but doesn't have the contralto nor the emotion Karen put in her songs. Also have to remember how equipment has changed.
The main reason is because it’s her own voice. Last Saturday Richard met Tori in person for the first time. See the video I posted, search Tori’s name and sort by date, the photo is on the thumbnail.
