I love how you introduce both yarns like they're on WWE Monday night raw!
Now you just need to "LET'S GET READY TO REVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!!"
Lol
Lmbo
I just crocheted a scarf in Loops and Threads soft and shiny. Lovely!
Hello, My name is Yvette. I’ve been following your Chanel for a while now and I really enjoy your delivery as well as your honesty. I’m kind of a newbee. I’ve always knew how to crochet but nothing more than a blanket or scarf. Following you, I’ve made the hooded sweaters you made for you two children and I’m very proud of myself. I will continue following you and your ideas. Thanks so much!!!
I bought the soft and shiny by accident. I was not paying attention and I was looking at caron and when I found the color I liked I just grabbed it and went on. When I got home and started crocheting I realized it was not caron. Lol Yes I noticed it had more shine and it did feel softer. I totally agree with your review
Hello Friend! Since you've used both yarns I wonder if you think they are interchangeable. I'm using a patterns for a child's hat. I got into trouble on another pattern b/c I used RHSS and it turned out larger than I expected so now I'm questioning my own judgement. Thanks for your opinion! 🙂
Hi Anne 💞 hugs and love 🤗 to you and your family. Just spending time with my family makes me happy and enjoying nature
Thank you Crystal. I have passed up the Loops and Threads many times simply because I am used to Caron Simply Soft and it's not broken so I don't try to fix it. I am grateful for your video comparison because now I would be totally comfortable using the Loops and Threads yarn.
I'm working with soft and shiny right now. No splitting! I love it!
I was so glad to hear that you use the Caron simply soft to make lots of Evie's dresses... I was at Michael's and bought three skeins of the Loops & Threads aqua blue that you had in this video as well as three skeins of a lime green color also Loops & Threads, however my daughter's favorite colors of the week changed, LOL, and she no longer wants me to use this yarn she chose to make her a blanket…. Well last night I made your adorable lil' Sprite dress, which is the very first dress I've ever attempted to make, and I think it came out great.. Your instructions were so clear, you couldn't have done a better job of teaching how to make this dress, and now I've got my eyes set on making the one with the cute little white Bolero cardigan to go over it and I am going to use the green Loops & Threads yarn for it... It's going to be for my neighbor's granddaughter. The Sprite dress is for her new grandbaby and I made it in Bernat Pop (uggh!)in the blue chambray color.. It kind of came out looking more like a very muted blue almost gray color. I do not care for Bernat pop. I just didn't have any other yarn on hand fit for this hot Texas weather as I have a lot of bulky weight yarn and tons of wool. But I do have these Loops & Threads soft and shiny & to know that you use it for your dresses gives me peace of mind that it won't be too hot for the lil ones. Finally, huge thanks for taking out your valuable time to make these yarn reviews because they are truly helpful in giving people guidance regarding various yarns without pushing your viewers necessarily one way or the other, but rather giving them the facts and I like that. You do express your opinion, but not to the extent where you sound particularly partial or as if you're being paid, which I know that you're not, however there are other RUclipsrs out there who are clearly promoting products for the sole purpose of making money regardless of whether they'd actually spend a single penny on that product, so I respect you a bunch for that. Much love to you and yours!
I love all loops and threads yarns. They do a really good job with the quality of all of them.
I used the soft and shiny to make this dress of yours. So nice.
I make a lot of hats with the Caron. I do find that it splits easily but it makes up such nice hats for cancer patients that I love using it. Now that I know Loops and Threads is softer, I’ll be trying that. Thanks for the review.🧶👍🏼🤗
I absolutely LOVE L&T Soft and Shiny! It’s so soft and does not fuzz up.
Not hard to undo. I e made scarves from this and given them away and the recipients always commented on the softness. Thanks as always for your great yarn reviews, Crystal! 💕🤗
Thank you Crystal. I'm making a combination of 2 of your toddlers dress tutorials. Both called for simply soft. I didn't have caron simply soft in cream I wanted but I did in l&t soft and shiny. The dress is coming out great. But I checked out this comparison 1st. Thanks for the great review and tutorials
Thank you. Wonderful review. Just started an Afghan using Caron and I picked it because of all the colors because I’m doing a temperature blanket for my granddaughter.
I like this comparison. There were two comparisons you didn't make. Firstly, all things being equal, if they both had the same amount of colors, which one would you buy. Most new yarns that come out have limited number of colors. Company's test the market area with a limited quantity to see how it goes. If the sales are favorable they will add to the color line up. And secondly, you usually show whether it is easy or difficult to pull the worked project apart. Looking to see if it's a smooth transition or whether it snags or catches. I, personally, like the looseness of the Soft and Shiny thread because it makes the work look a little thicker, a little fuller and with that beautiful shine it also makes it look softer and warmer. As always, thanks so much for the comparisons. They help me a lot when I'm looking consider buying new yarns and/or when I 'm looking for a substitute yarn when I can't get the my usual purchase. You do such a good and thorough job. Keep on doing what you do Crystal, it is very much appreciated.
I've notice that Wal-Mart yarn section has really shrunk in size and has limited choices here in tx
Same here in Southern Ontario. So disappointing!!
Same here in N.W. Ohio! It is just pitiful. Only 1 or 2 skeins of a few colors of Caron. Never enough for a project! All of their craft supplies have really been minimalized.
Same in Tennessee
Yeeessss.....Same in Upstate NY...They used to have a ton of Caron SS and now they barely have any.....Their house yarn is rougher than sandpaper😖
The Loops and Threads looked really good in the yarn haul video yesterday.
This video just confirmed for me that it's a good option if I want to pick up something other than Caron.
Thanks for all of your videos, they're fun and informative.
I’ve only used Caron ss
One time for a baby blanket and I loved it. It’s nice that there is a less
Expensive alternative now.
Thanks for the review crystal. I just recently bought a lot of Caron simply soft to start making a granny square blanket. I did use coupons from michaels and Joann’s so that helped. I haven’t worked with that much different brands of yarn yet. I have mostly work with red heart yarn. So this review and reading the comments helps me out. I’m finally starting to try other brands of yarn. I wondered about the store brands but I usually like to buy name brand for some reason especially if I’m crocheting for a gift.
Just bought Loops n Threads and was hesitant since I’ve only used Caron. After watching your review, I feel much better starting my next project. I really wanted that shine and now I’m going for it.
Recent subscriber to you channel, and have binge-watching your vids like crazy. Was sooo happy to see this one, and it was timely too! I was placing two yarn orders at Joann and Michaels; I had both Loops and Threads and Caron in my separate carts in similar colors, and simply couldn't decide between the two. Thanks to your review, I was able to finally make my decision, and I know I'll be happy with it. Love all your vids, thanks for all you do!
Thanks for the great review, I’m just about ready to do a project possibly using one of these yarns so it’s really good to have an honest review.
I have not used either one but I would consider what color I wanted to use for a project. Great review. Thank you.
I love this yarn review. I did get in on the yarnspirations mystery box a few days ago and I'm so excited. I've never had caron before.
Going to try a baby blanket in the Soft & Shiny and see how it works up. Thanks for the review.
Yes! I've been hoping for reviews like this!
Thank you Crystal for doing this review I havent tried either one yet but this helps me decide.
Thanks Crystal for explaining about the two different yarns.
I love the loops and threads! I made a nice soft cowl. 😊 Totally agree with your review. Look forward to seeing your projects with the loops and threads.
I just went to ollies in tn and it had caron ombre avocado and coffee latte brown 4oz for 1.99 OMG I bought 50 lol I'll find something to make out of it ❤❤❤ I love your review btw and loops and threads definitely looked open can't wait to crochet the shawl I'm just watched you make
Loved your review. I just happened to buy some Loops n Threads soft n shiny this weekend. Was curious also if it was similar to Caron. I absolutely agree with you, with everything you said. True about the colors and the price. The only thing I wonder about is how soft n shiny washes. I know Caron washes great. 😊
I Luv CSS I hunt it down for a sale and a coupon I WON'T buy it if its NOT on sale..I luv the colors!! Thank You Crystal for ur review..I will check out the other yarn and let u know what I think about it.! 😉
Thank you 😊 so much for the comparison you are so considerate for thinking of us. I will try the Loops & Thread.
Thanks crystal. Caron simply is one of my favorites. Always wondered about that loops and threads. Very thorough review👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the review! You’re right about Walmart...I work there on the weekend and go by the yarn isle both days 🤫 the have very limited yarn to begin with....if you want more than 3 skeins pfft
I've used both in making a queen size audit. I loved the colors.
It's good to know they are fairly similar. Thank you for the review!
Really appreciate all your help and information on crocheting.
Yarn Inspirations is having an outlet tent sale in Little Washington, NC, in May. A friend who goes says they have fantastic buys on Caron, Bernat, and Paton. I am thinking seriously about going. Buyers bring large garbage bags to stock up. I had a problem where one Caron Jumbo skein that I purchased locally had a lighter color in the center of the skein. I called Yarn Inspirations, sent them pictures of the problem, and they are sending me 6 free skeins of Caron Simply Soft in a color of my choice.
They're really good about resolving problems.
I can't wait to try the loop's and thread's. I've used Caron SS and it was almost that color.
Thanks for the thorough review. I haven't tried any of the loops and threads yet, but only because I don't get to Michael's very often.
Thanks for this great video Crystal. I was hoping you would do one featuring Simply Soft, and you did! I use it a lot - even though it is 8.00 a skein here in Australia. I get so jealous when I here U.S. yarn prices. I don’t think we have the soft and shiny here. I will investigate. Thanks again, love your work!
Thanks for the review. I watched your video when you bought them at Michael's.
I ordered some myself to try out. I can't wait!!! I was disappointed that they didn't have any solids online or at my local store(all sold out).
I did get verigated.
I am hoping they are going to have more colors and get the solids back in.
I love your honest reviews. I live in Puerto Rico and they won't ship here so I have to wait until I get to the states to check out a Michael's store but I'll definitely try the Soft & Shiny.
I am a new subscriber to Bag-O-Day so I'm going back through your past videos. I wanted to say I use both of these yarns as I am in Canada and our selection of places to buy yarn is certainly less than in the US. I am in the process of making 2 baby blankets.. one with Simply Soft and one with the Soft and Shiny. They both look great and they are both amazingly soft. The Soft and Shiny is definitely silkier but maybe it's the stitch too. Thank you for this. These videos inspire me to branch out and look for different brands to try. Too bad shipping is crazy expensive for me so I usually stick to the local buys.
I chose loops and threads a few years back for my first chevron blanket . It feels great to the touch, smooth and cool (I am hot natured and live in Louisiana). It washes and drys well too, keeping the shape and shine. The drape is heavier compared to Caron, and yes there is a slight wave look to the spun but, I like the way it reflects the light. Caron’s weight seems lighter, it may have better insulating properties too, my boys love their hats made with Caron’s SS.
These are both my favorite brands so far
Wow Crystal, this is great ..more options now. I'm excited to check the colors
I love that color it is so shiny a must buy ,maybe as a hand bag is a great idea like a evening bag .
I agree with you, it definitely looks shinier.
Very helpful review. I think I'll try the "soft and shiny" just for fun. Plus I like how shiny it is. Thank you Crystal .
Hi Crystal. I went to Michael's today. I did see the huge skeins of yarn. You said you got them for over $9.00. to my surprise I got them for $5.98. I ended getting quite a bit. Thank you so much for always letting us know about the the sales.
Awesome!!! That great....I hope you cleaned them out, I sure would of at that price 😊
Lol. I just watched you buy that yarn for comparison.lol that was quick and I am really interested in results
I agree that it looks shinier than the caron. I will need to try this Loops and Threads yarn.
I have never used either but have CSS from your Oct retreat. I love love love the feel of it. Want to make one of your baby dresses....when I get some down time from Other WIPs.
I'm working on a lapghan with the soft & shiny. It splits a lot for me. I'm afraid it won't hold up well for washing since it's getting fuzzy as I'm working on it. But it feels really soft and it's still pretty.
I am looking forward to trying soft and shiny. I love Caron simply soft. I love soft yarn. ❤
I like the loops & threads colors
Thanks Crystal!
Very informative review. Thanks for all you do!
Hello, I love the colors! Would make a lovely purse just in time for Spring! Thank you for you review. 🙂
Saw soft and shiny at Michael's and made the same comparison and agree, it feels softer and is definitely shinier. Guess I'll have to work with it and see if I like it as much as simply soft
I have never used soft and shiny, but I have used Carron yarn and I love it.
I have used it before several times and I like it very soft the only thing that I noticed that the variegated yarn after making a shawl was letting pile (like lint) however I made a blanket with blue variegated and so far so good, to me it’s softer and it croché quiet lose and I used a 5 hook size!!
Thank you for the great idea to check out yarns
Hello Crystal!,- # yarn that would be good for a warm winter beanie? I am getting a habit from watching you LOL ! I went back to Joanns online and ordered another 16 skeins this time the Simply Soft Party Yarn. Now it is time to get busy. Thank You Very Much For Being The Beautiful Person You Are! You Encouraging & Teach Us So Much Always With A Smile. Have a Wonderful Day, Renae
Thanks for the review. That was very helpful. Now i am thinking my next project needs to be with soft and shiny.
thx so much 😆
I'm still a Caron Fan 😇
I haven't tried this before but I do agree with you the other brand is shiner.
Totally LOVED your yarn review!!!!! Thank you Crystal!!!!!!
Loops and threads looks thicker when you showed the strands side by side. At least on camera.
I haven't had the chance to try either. Thanks for this helpful review
Thank you for the review. I was wondering if the soft and shiny would wash well, since it is spun loosly? Baby blankets need frequent washing, caron holds up well.
I was wondering the same thing for the same reason. Looks like it could pill too.
It washes beautifully and does not pill.
I’ve made a number of things with the Soft & Shiny . They have all stood up well to not only washing, but our puppy!
I would certainly try the soft and shiny cause it looks really shiny. Here in Tennessee Walmart has a sale on red heart super saver jumbo.
I would love it if was #3 🙄 so thanks for the review 😉 and your time and help👏 but am going to check it out this weekend 😉🤗🤔👍✍😚 God bless you and your family 🙏
Great review! You can definitely tell it is shinier. I will check it out. Thank you! 🥰
It makes me wonder if the loops and threads is more pleasant to work with being that it is a tad thicker. I love the finished product of Caron , but I very much dislike working with it. It just never feels natural in my fingers, and I can only use a clover hook with it because the dull head doesnt catch on the split threads, all my other hooks are miserable with Caron. I will definitely try the Loops and Threads. Thanks for the review!
Awesome review Thanks Crystal. 😁💕🌹
I have that exact variegated of loops n threads. I made a basket and used Bernat home Dec with the soft n shiny alternating each row. I really liked working with L+T soft n shiny better than Caron SS. Love that shine!
I agree the Loops and Threads has more of a sheen and looks softer. Love the color of that silver and gold. Also Hobby Lobby has Soft Secret that is comparable to both of these.
What an excellent yarn review! I use caron simply soft for clothing items too. Will you let us know how the soft & shiny drapes if you make a baby dress or another clothing item? 👗 Thank you for the video. Well done Crystal.
Good review. Have never tried Michael's yarn before, will try it now.
I'm so glad you did this; thank you, Crystal! I would buy this, because the colors are pretty, it looks like CSS, and it's shiny and soft, and it's cheaper, lol. I've never used CSS, so I wouldn't miss it. Since the difference in quality and texture is so similar, I'd definitely buy this Soft and Shiny. In fact, I may do it tonight or tomorrow, lol.
Very nice. Yarns I would use either.
Crystal!!!!!!! You made my MILLENNIUM!!!!!!!! Now I know for sure, that I wasn't just a crazy yarn lady......... I picked that Soft & Shiny up, because I really loved the sheen on it. I don't go by hook size either. My daughter wanted that aqua blue you got. I REALLY like the colors you bought at your yarn haul. I was so excited to see that you actually saw my request for this review. I picked it up and couldn't put it back down. Kira kept saying that it's so SOFT & SHINY!!!!! Lol I started to crochet a little bit with it. I was also very surprised that it didn't split. I also thought that I was going to have troubles with it. I made something small to try it out. I have 1 out of the 2 of your Victorian Style Wristers made with it. I didn't have the white in the Loops & Threads, I had the CSS for that part. I'll have to post a pic, when I am finished with it. I think I'm actually in love with that yarn now. I can't wait to see the dress you are making for Evelyn with that yarn!!!!!! It's gonna be stunning. I just know it.
Caron simply soft is one of my most favorite yarn but I might have to try soft and shiny loops & threads because I would love my plushies more softer 💗 thank you for sharing this video ☺️
My walmart has the roll backs...like caron right now is 2.00 but like you said limited supply
I always use Caron but I bought sim loops and threads to try and I did noticed that loops was softer
Thank you for info on the 2 comparisons!
Thank you for the review! I was wondering how the two yarns compared to each other.
I love Caron yarn but I'm going to order some of the loops and threads to try it!!
The Soft and Shiny yarn fuzzes after washing and pills. I prefer Caron✨
As of 11-2023 Loops and Threads is $4.99 a skein at Michaels. I had no problems with this yarn. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I bought it to make slippers with and it turned out wonderful. I think it is softer than Caron. I guess when I rubbed it across my cheek at the store, Caron was not soft. I also like "I Love this yarn" at Hobby Lobby which is also the same price and very soft as well.
Thanks Crystal! Much appreciated.
I know this is old but I find Caron splits like crazy! I’ll have to try michaels for theirs
Thanks for the review, very useful, looks like I can decide which one I'm using according to the price. 😊
Great review! Thanks! I like Loops & Threads yarns at Michaels. I would spend it. I hope they get more colors though.
I love Caron Simply Soft, I don't have access to a Michael's where I live. I wish there was one near me, Michael's seems to have a large selection of yarns. Thanks Crystal!!
Thanks for the review!! I like Caron ss too. But I’m willing to try loops and threads. I will be going to Michaels in the very near future to get some.
I like the look of the soft and shiny it definitely is shinier than the simply soft. I haven't used either Thank you for the review Crystal. 🐨🇦🇺
