    Another great video on living in Puerto Vallarta, thank you! Subscribed! I've also spent time in Vallarta over the past 12 years and now want to relocate! I work remotely (also a youtuber and life coach/astrologer). I love hearing Kim's story and how she makes it all work for her. I'm a little concerned about taking a rental and finding out that my internet isn't stable for Zoom client sessions, etc. Is that just a fear or something that people encounter? Great news about dating, thank you!

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад +1

      This is definitely a worry! And it's hard to gauge if a connection will be good for Zoom. For instance, we had MegaCable internet, which was FAST, but not reliable. It would go down for about 15-20 seconds per hour. Just fine for streaming Netflix, but 15 seconds of delay in a Zoom call would not work.
      I looked into renting an office and they told me over the phone they had fiber internet, but when I went to check it out, it was DSL.
      Starlink is now a possibility in most of Mexico. Most people say that if you have an unobstructed view of the sky, Zoom works great.

    This is off topic Brighton, but I finally found the Mexico airline which flies non-stop from La Paz to Mazatlan. The airline is called Calafia and it's an hour flight versus the 13 hour brutal ferry ride over. R/Trip non-stop flights cost as little as $115 USD pp on Calafia.

    Hi Brighton! Great interview! I am happy she has found her MOJO in Puerto Vallarta!
    We are on our Exploratory Trip #1 currently; in Mazatlan. So far, it is a great trip! Through some of the other RUclips channels that operate out of Mazatlan, we got partnered with an awesome tour guide. He took us around the whole city yesterday; which really helped define what kind of area we would want to live in. We came here thinking we were Centro types and still think that! There is also an area called Playa Sur, which is up against Centro. It is the area on the southeast part of town, close to where the cruise ships arrived. My wife and I just walked around it today, so we could see the neighborhood at our leisure. It is very similar to what Kim has, with regards to a house. Overall, so far, the only component that the houses in this particular area that is missing would be a pool. Coming from the relatively dry, arid areas of high altitude Colorado, the heat, and mostly the humidity, is a huge limiting factor for us. We really just want to wait until after sundown to come outside. Hence, the importance of a pool access.
    As we moved north in town, on our tour, that is where the preponderance of new construction is going on. The amount of new construction currently is jaw dropping. I would generally say that the economy in Mazatlan is booming for now!
    Of course, new construction has its appeal. But, I think we would tend to want almost exactly like what Kim has.
    Thank you again!!

    Im wondering if the Mexican government changed the laws regarding foreigners owning land within a certain distance from the ocean in Mexico. It's called ejido land and Americans and foreigners are prohibited by the government from owning land there.

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад +2

      Ejido land is different than the 30 mile restriction (which is in the constitution.) Foreigners can put land into a trust ($500 per year cost) and own land thu the trust. I think that started in the 80’s.

      @@amyhollingsworth16 Hi Amy, I'm retired living here in Cuernavaca Morelos Mexico for many years. My mother owned a house in San Miguel de Allende and she also had a bank trust and sold it years later. I don't see any need to buy here especially since you have to pay cash and tie up thousands and thousands of dollars. You can rent here for $500 USD or less and live in a very nice place like I've been doing. Plus if you want or need to sell finding a buyer here isn't so easy, my landlady had to wait 10 years to find a buyer.

      @@JRspeaking actually, they are not paying higher wages over there. I’m from Mexico City and I know this first hand. It’s just making the gaps between poverty and wealth bigger than ever.

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад +1

      @@nadiarebeca6634 I'd love to hear more about your experience. The argument about wages that I've heard is the opposite. I've heard that expats are usually willing to pay more (for housing, food, services, tips, etc.) Then the local people cannot compete: e.g. the waiters only want to serve gringos because they tip more, the house cleaners only want to clean gringo houses because they pay better.
      I can definitely see the gap growing, but it seems to be that people who work for gringos are doing better than they otherwise would (income-wise) but if people aren't working for gringos, then the competition (prices going up because gringos will pay more) is a problem.
      I saw something similar in Cuba. I rented a room from a doctor. He made more money renting out a room in his house to tourists than he made as a doctor for locals.
      I'm going to CDMX next month and I know that things are different there than in other parts of Mexico (probably because more Mexicans are renters in CDMX compared to other towns.) If you own your own home in a place like La Paz, gentrification is much less of a worry.

    • @nadiarebeca6634
      @nadiarebeca6634 2 года назад

      @@AlmostRetiredinMexico
      My experience is that more tips don’t really mean better wages. Of course some people get better income but their living expenses are higher because everything is like 3 times more expensive in the neighborhoods were the foreigners are. So, what happens is that employees are forced to live very far from their work places to be able to afford rent. Most of the people have commutes of at least 1 hour to their jobs (I was doing 2.5hrs each way when I was going to college so 5 hrs a day in total) so employees quality life doesn’t really improve.
      Also, Mexico is a dangerous country and a bigger wealth gap is only making it more and more dangerous. Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries for women and in my experience (born and raised there) I don’t really know many people there that have never been robbed. 95% of the people I know had been robbed several times with violence. So I don’t know how good is to be promoting my country as a retirement destination. In the 26 years I lived there, I never knew the feeling of safety. I live in Detroit now and I feel safer here than in my city so… be careful.
