- In today's BJJ Gi roll, we have Mike, a blue belt, versus Zach a WHITE BELT. Zach gets a little ahead then pays for it.

Started in 2004-10 when my retina got detached in a fight.. I then stopped and basically hid in a bottle til 2018... Picked it back up and am now a purple belt as of March '21! Also been sober almost 4 years now!
The being sober is even better than training. Awesome job mate
Nice to hear. Life without Jiu Jitsu isn’t life.
Give us a Update
it's taken me 42 years to get my white belt! But I'm super happy that I've started training, better late than never!
I’m glad you have as well! Welcome to the journey! This is the way.
This is the perfect combination of education and comedy 😂😂
Your content is gold man! 👏👏👏
Didn't realize till the end you weren't a big channel. Keep up the good work. Really enjoying your videos!
Glad you enjoy it! Hope to get there one day!
35 years and now a fresh white belt. Been training for about 1,5 month and i'm totally lost in all grips/chokes/mount and so on. I had a laugh when i heard your comment in the video about being indecisive of what to do! Everytime we roll i try to think of what i can do, but it always ends up of me getting smashed over and over and over again. Will now go from training 2 times to 4 times per week. Hopefully someday i'll understand what the hell i'm doing :D
Best advice I have for you is to game plan beforehand! You probably do already, but have ONE pass, ONE sweep, and ONE submission. Keep doing this and you’ll get better. Let me know how it goes!
Same with me 35 and 1 about 2 months in.
Bath Salts Ben: the gift that keeps on giving 👊🏼
I am a blue belt, and it took about 1 year 5 months with no breaks.
I’m sad I haven’t seen him lately 😵💫 nice job on the belt mate
@@TylerSpangler appreciate it 🙏
Started training in 2008-2010 and stopped at blue belt… medical degree and 4 kids later I’ve picked the habit back up again after a decade!
Keep up the great content!
Started in 2006. I trained for 9 years and was a 3 stripe brown belt. I stopped in 2015 and I just started again 2 months ago. I feel great and really happy to be back on the mat. Great videos too. There a lot of fun to watch.
That blue belt is cool ,no ego
Very humble indeed
new blue belt (june this year), got it in 10 months with regular training. on a break now for testing of my heart.
appreciate the channel!
I hope your heart is okay!! Thanks for watching amigo
"Bathsalt ben!" So happy you said that in this video!😂😂😂 your videos are helping me get through this quarantine! Thanks!
Originally I considered reckless Ben, but bath salt Ben just fits too well!
@@TylerSpangler he was born to have that name!
No stripe white belt here been at it for over a year now. Also love your videos. I found your channel while browsing endless amounts of BJJ content in angst of my first competition. Your playful and funny approach really resonated with me and even secured third place with one of your beloved Guillotines xD Keep up the great work!
Ayyyyy I’m glad to hear you did a guillotine to help you! Which finish? Congrats mate! Also I’m glad my videos helped you relax a little bit with my humor! Keep at it!
How come u don’t have any stripes?
@@aidinf3268 some schools don’t do stripes. My old school did but my new one doesn’t
@@aidinf3268 tho for the record, his school might do stripes but he just doesn’t happen to have any yet. If that’s the case then yeah I do think that’s kinda weird but his coach is better at Jiu Jitsu than I am
@@aidinf3268 We are a pretty small school without a black belt so we get promoted at a larger school nearby like twice a year. And due to Corona that simply didn't happen.
Blue Belt, took 3 years to get. I moved around a little bit in that time but trained pretty consistently for that last year. Now I’m almost at 4.5 years of BJJ.
3 years! That’s a good amount of time! Not too rushed or too late! Nice job mate. Love to hear it.
This is dope. I'm a new white belt and I really appreciate your analysis. Keep making these!
Will do!!
I only watch these because you’re funny and talk trash about the students in a fun way and the duck noises 🤣
Gotta keep the rollers on their toes! Thanks for watching mate
LMAO as a whitebelt going for the head every time
Just graduated to blue belt, started training in 2019. Covid interrupted a few times. Thankfully I’m back into a routine I can manage now
I enjoyed the video. Great commentary! 4 stripe blue belt here with 4 years and 2 months of training.
Nice job mate!
Love these videos, keep em coming🙏🙏😂😂
Will do mate. Thanks for watching
Started Jiu-jitsu in Dec 2019 and got my blue belt in Feb. 2021. One year later I'm currently at 2 stripes on the blue belt. I train 3 times per week and help coach the kids program at the school I go to.
Being a no stripe 3 month white belt myself, these white belt rolls are so much fun.
Thanks to you from now on I’m going to be calling gi classes “yes gi”
Brownbelt 8.5-9.0 years. Your commentary is hilarious 😂. I subscribed. Good luck on your channel 👍
Thanks for joining mate! Awesome work on the belt. You’re almost there!
Had my first bjj lesson yesterday, went for the side control headlock 5 times and got flipped over 5 times 😂. Definitely won't be going for that again
Welcome to the jiu jitsu fam!
Love the breakdowns thank you 🙏🏼
Scarf with a overhook gets your back taken all day
Give us what we really want!! Mike vs Psycho Ben.
I’ll have to! Ben won’t let him do any punking!
started in 2014 stopped 2018, took me 3 yrs to get my blue belt. I stopped due to accumulation of injuries. As a chiropractor I need my hands and wrists and arms and shoulders, and I need to be in my feet and be able to walk. Videos like yours give me that itch. I love your channel.
Started in December 2021, I'm hooked.
love this content. I am a 3 strip white belt, trained for about 18-20 months. :)
Glad you liked it mate. Almost to blue!
43 yrs old and I just started 5 months ago.. its been a great ride.. Sometimes though I feel as though i am not showing any progress and I'm getting worse. But any day on the mats is a learning experience
One month in, loving it.
Just started my bjj journey 3 weeks ago, I love it!
I am a one stripe blue belt, and received my blue belt after 1.5 years of consistent training about 3-5 days a week, I have been training for over 4.5 years.
Awesome work! Almost 5 years in. That's a great milestone
I'm 39 and on my second blue belt. I started training at 26 and had to stop after being hit by a car while riding my motorcycle. I'm back at it now and eyeing a purple belt soon :)
I love how you speak of the lower belts 😂 bb 2019
Awesome video!
Glad you like it mate
Oooooh... I love the leapfrog pass at 6:20. It has worked for me against high level guys, but I usually shoot right past mount and it turns into a scramble ( I get too excited). Brown belt, trained for 10.5 years. I recently came out of several months of solo training (thanks, covid restrictions).
It is an awesome pass! It’s a great way to style on your opponent. That’s awesome you have come out of solo training. Nice job on your videos as well mate
So when are you two gonna roll for content 👀
@@TylerSpangler Thanks! Your videos inspire me, and make me chuckle. Keep them coming!
@@taromilktea7104 Just imagine my face on the next white belt he humiliates. I'm pretty sure that's how it would go! That said, I would be honored if I had the chance.
I started training when I was 14 (2021) and got my blue belt a year later after training 6 days a week and now I have a stripe on my blue belt. Starting to train BJJ was the best decision I have ever made
Loved this video
Glad you loved it!
I'm a white belt 2 stripe granted permission to join in the blue belt roll off coming up Feb 11. I'm excited, and going with a clear mind if I lose I won knowledge. So it's a win win for me. But videos like this definitely help me with at home training. I appreciate this video!
Started March 28th this year, earned my 4th stripe in August, currently I'm still a 4stripe white belt but I just won my first tournament with grappling industries so it's going great
Ohhh Congrats. That is crazy. You got promoted really fast. I started also in March but I haven't earned any stripe yet. Never skipped training and I train every week for 4/5 time ( including 1 no-gi a week). My gym is very very strict in handing out stripes and belt.
@@sulemanp1 it's about how your coach sees you! Keep it up and you'll get the stripes before you know it, im going to be an mma fighter someday so I train extremely hard and seriously, don't sweat it!
@@gamer8622 great man. Keep on grinding. You'll get there 😤
how often do you get a stripe?
@@amses8755 depends on you and the coach. I got mine every pretty quick but I've been sitting in my 4th for several months
Blue Belt in October. Training since Feb 2019. Three months break (training dummy and instructionals only) during Covid
Looking forward to the Ghee O Teen video! Mine need help
I just recorded my takedown one today, guillotines next! It’ll take some time to edit the bad boy, but I look forward to helping your guillotines out! Also, great job on the blue belt.
@@TylerSpangler thanks! Appreciate your vids man. Lot of good stuff 👍🏼
Love the videos, non-spazzy white belt here, started 2nd November. I love these videos.
When I'm rolling I just try to use defences I know such as framing and delaying and try to look for opportunities to sweep (spoiler, I never manage to sweep, except a guy on Sunday who was in for the first time... And I have no idea how I did it, but it was from closed guard into mount 😂)
Above all else I breathe and try to have fun.
Wow you just started! That’s awesome! Great to have you here mate
@@TylerSpangler Thanks man, good to be here 🙌
Got my blue belt in a year, though I had previous martial arts experience, and have had my blue for 2 yrs now. My coach has told me I'll be promoted to purple in 3 months for our next set of promotions.
Started training around 2015 when I was 13-14. Trained for a year then joined hs wrestling which I did for 3 yrs until 2019, no bjj. Didn't start bjj again until February this year in a new gym and got my blue belt in 3 months, training 10x a week. I'm now in college and joined the wrestling team but am still doing bjj 3-4x a week.
Im a 1 month white belt. You nailed it with saying white belts are moth to a flame for side control headlock. I spend all of my roll time going for it and I do not know why!! lol
Idk why they just love it!
Started jiu jitsu in July 2019, got my blue belt in September 2020. So around 14 months, training 4-5 times per week
Nice job mate!
I love the head lock position from from side control bc I can easily transition into head arm choke.. unless you’re purple or higher
the camera girl likes that transition too!
Great video. I'm a 4 stripe white belt. Been training since January 2020. Unfortunately training has been severely disrupted due to Covid-19 lockdown. Been training 5 days per week now since May 2021. It become a real habit to be on the mats as much as possible.
Feb 7 2018, 4 years got the blue belt Aug 5th 2019, had a year almost 2 years of inconsistent training due to starting my business back up BUT, been at it hard again finally!
3 years. Just got my purple belt. Pretty consistent in training. 5 to 7 days a week with short injury breaks.
One stipe white belt. Started at the end of January, 4 months off because of fire season, back at it for the past month.
Awesome mate! Glad you’re back at it! Hope you get another stripe soon
Blue belt 4 stripe here, started in Jan 2013 and got my blue belt as soon as i turned 16 in July 2015, so about 2 and half years. Did 4 years of Judo whilst at uni doing bjj on the side without a high level coach, now back doing bjj 10 times a week, hunting down that purple belt!
10 times a week! That’s awesome! I got my blue belt as a youngster too! It’s an awesome feeling isn’t it?
@@TylerSpangler Yeah man, feels great to train full time, apart from my poor 23 year old knees feeling like I'm 90!
Oh yeah, getting my blue belt a couple days after my 16th is still one of the best moments of my life! And Lord the target it put on my back!
Keep going great videos
2 stripe white belt. Started in June.
That hop that Mike does is demoralizing indeed. Just when you think you got a guard back and... damn
Great work on the stripes mate
Transitioned off and on to bjj since 2010, brown belt for a year now and I’m getting pretty nervous because I don’t feel like I’m ready for a black belt but I know it’s coming soon…I have black belts in other styles but jiujitsu is an entirely different experience, constantly humbled.
I'm a white belt. It took me 22 years to earn this prestigious belt, and I've proudly held it for 3 years (kinda - had a good bit of time off mostly due to the pandemic).
First step is to start! Great job mate!
I'm a white belt, been training 6 months. I've learned that if I just go for Judo Side control (scarfhold) and get the Kimura from there. If I can't do that, I just step into their guard and turn for a kneebar
White belt with 1 stripe, 3 months of training and I'm obsessed with this martial art. Avg 5 days of training a week.
5 days! That’s a awesome! You’ll move right along
Purple belt. 10 months at white, 15ish months at blue. Purple was definitely early. Had to grow into it. Been rolling a little over 4 years now.
Moving right along those ranks! Nice work mate
Oh man blue belt here 4 months in... but I'm thoroughly addicted , classes twice a day, multiple private lessons hours and hours
Privates too! Wow, that's awesome. I always point to the few privates I've done as some of my best choices in BJJ
@@TylerSpangler best decisions I've made to improve my game ! I always ask what does the next level me look like, when I was a 3 stripe white belt I said what would a 4 stripe white belt me look like. Then we'd spend the hour on exactly that
I am a white belt. I tapped a few blue belts in sparring, but I also have a judo and wrestling background so it's not the same.
Blue Belt, took me 4 years to get there, but I had a Lot of breaks, since my health is not the best and never really felt deserving of the belt. Shortly after my graducation I partially tore my ACL. When I was getting better my Gym imploded and Split up. Took me nearly 3 years to find back to BJJ and started Training again 3 months ago. Since cases are super high in Germany the Gym will be closed for 1 or 2 months and I will have to build Up cardio again.
Hey congrats on your belt! I hope your ACL is doing well and that cases go down again. We need you training! Hopefully these videos can help you out along the way!
Blue belt. Took me 2 years to get but I took a good chunk of 2020 off. But when I am able to go, I always go.
Awesome job on your blue belt mate!
52 year old blue belt. Covid ate my BJJ, but starting up again after 5 months off following 1 year. Expect cardio to be shit, old man strength to be gone and probably only my half guard to remain loyal. But we always get what we deserve and BJJ serves up karma in this life, not the next.
Purple belt as of 2 weeks ago. Started bjj in 2019, but also a judo black belt, which I've been practising since 2011.
Jesus, look at the state of his Yes GI trousers 😮
May as well just do no gi!
I’m 38. I was just promoted blue belt and have been training for 1.7 months.
1 stripe white belt started in January 2021 very consistent no breaks took over a year to get a stripe due to me switching gyms
No strip white belt. 3 months of training. 30 yes old. I love it.
Great time to start! The stripes will come!
2 years and I'm a white belt, not concerned about moving up. I want to be the lowest level so I can tap colored belts. Currently I draw with the vast majority of blue belts, I run the clock out. If I go all out, you better watch out for my headlocks that you don't train to get out of. I'm 6'2 230 pounds down from 260 when I started.
White belt and black belt are the best belts
Love the quacks
1 stripe purple belt, August was year 8 for me
On and off eh
I had some breaks in training so its not an easy calculation, but it was just over 2 years of consistent training for me to get blue. I then stuck around for about 4 months before disappearing for 7 years. I'm back now so that's all that matters. Fortunately the rust came off in about 6 months so I would say I'm now similarly skilled, but in way worse shape. Working on that part now!
That’s awesome that you came back mate. What made you stop for 7 years?
@@TylerSpangler I got out of the military and switched careers. Was working full time for very little pay and was going to school full time trying to work my way up in the new career. I just didn't have/make time for BJJ as it was less of a priority than getting my career going so my family wasn't dead broke and on some limited government assistance. I barely had time for my family between the school and work commitments let alone time to train. I also was dealing with mental health issues (panic attacks) that interfered with me living my life.
Once I finished my undergrad and master's and got settled into a good job I started working on my mental health and got to a place I finally started going again!
The urge to get back was always persistent as I was addicted to BJJ. My wife and kids got fed up with me constantly trying to practice on them. They are now relieved they are no longer my involuntary BJJ practice dummies!
Blue belt one stripe, trained for just less than two years (with no belt higher than blue belt in my small town) took about a year and a half off after an injury got me used to not training, then went back (a black belt had moved to town while I was out and was the new instructor there) I got my blue belt from him within 4-5 months I think.
Awesome work! You’re moving right along those ranks!
2-Stripe Blue Belt, training since July of 2018, Blue since August of 2020
Ayyy nice job mate
Imma brown belt and tap out too lower belts all the time including white belts lol. It's part of the BJJ game lol. Bottom line have fun learn and try not to get hurt is the intention. Obviously these two training partners have good chemistry to train together. Good roll OSS 🤙🏿
One stripe white belt here, about 23 classes in. I'm 42 and really working through being out of shape and a variety of injuries.
Awesome job with the training! Hope you heal quickly
@@TylerSpangler yeah, not trying to be that injured white belt like your video. I broke a rib playing hockey 4 years ago and didn’t think how getting smashed would bruise it again. Just need to build that core strength and protect myself better.
Blue belt here. It took me 3 years and i've been a blue belt since february 2020. Had to stop about 9 months due to covid shutdowns. Been training constantly ever since!
Gained a ton of weight tho hahaha
Glad you've gotten back to training mate!
White belt, zero stripes. Took me 36 years to get here! 😂
Two stripe white belt here as well, got my first blue belt tap today that I wasn’t coached to 😂

Hey bud, would love for you to make more lower belt analysis videos like this to help us noobs. (would prefer gi hehe)
White belt 6 months of training. Won my first Naga tournament. It’s pretty easy to tap other white belts now
Blue belt as of a couple months ago. Took about 12 months training 4x per week with no breaks
Nice job mate. Always awesome if you can get the blue belt in a year! Nice work
White belt for 7 years, blue belt 3 years, and have been a purple since 2016. Nine month break at white for two knee surgeries.
We need bath salts Ben vs a dirty blue belt
I'm a white belt 0 stripes just started training traditional BJJ last month but has done no gi grappling since 2013 in which I earned my Blue belt
Blue Belt, took 2 years to get. I train 3 days a week at the academy. Drills with dummies at home 1-2 days a week.
Nice job mate! Good progress
I'm 31 and a 3 stripe white belt. Technically been training a year? 6 mo training, 18 months off for covid, and another 6 after the gyms reopened.
Nice job mate! Glad the gyms have reopened. You’re doing well
I just got my second stripe as a blue belt and I've been going at it about 3 years now. But I had a significant injury in the middle that kept my out for about 8 months.
Hey nice job on the stripe!
White belt.
Showed up.
The biggest step!
In reality those smothering hands would get bitten. 🤣
blue belt. just over 3 years. 8 months on. 6 months off. 8ish months on 3 months off. been doing it consistently since.
Nice job mate! As long as you’re training, that’s what counts.
Purple since 2017. It took me five years. 1 at white and 4 at blue.
I think maybe brown in 2025 and then 2041 for black.
Blue belt, took about 18 months of getting choked and humbled and a 6 month break early on for a torn meniscus.
Nice job mate
Blue belt, 3 years.
Nice work champ!
Bjj gets harder and harder as you get better. Everyone gets tapped by lower belts at some point. To you it’s Thursday, to a white belt it’s a UFC championship match to the death. My advice: don’t let your guard down or slow roll with lower belts; let ‘em have it. I giant white belt crushed my rib, after I had tapped him like 4 times. It was a cheap way to get out of an arm bar! He went crazy when I slowed down, I slowed down to give him more opportunities to learn 😠
Another great video fell like this white belt you think your getting better then you go against a higher belt and just get smashed
Glad you liked it! He started off well, but unfortunately mike was just trolling him by the end
