Absolutely people with Asperger's can work in roles where they support others. Aspies make excellent GPs, psychologists and diagnosticians. I personally worked in the disability support industry for over 15 years. It is taxing but rewarding. I did struggle with both my mental and physical health during this time but at the time I wasn't aware of my autism and so wasn't able to put effective coping strategies into place.
You have given me so much hope. I finally know why I have been "different" all my life. I got bullied alot and I still do but you are so inspiring. I am so excited for today's video. I really like your videos and I find them really helpful. Yesterday I had a big meltdown and one of the things that helped me calm down was watching some of your videos. Could you make some more videos on how autism is comorbid with things like ADHD. I have ADHD and I just got diagnosed with asd and I was wondering how they kind of interact with each other.
Live Love READ it's in case of coming into contact with anyone in an unpredictable situation, for example the police or emergency services. Just showing them the alert band immediately tells the person dealing with you that you have Autism so therefore they need to be more patient and understanding with you. In the event of an accident or incident they are useful. I also have an Autism Alert Card that I carry in my wallet but sometimes I may go to places without my wallet so the wristband is more practical as you've less chance of losing it.
This has helped me. Watching you is amazing. Keep it up bro. I know I'm on the spectrum I just need a doctor's proof. I suffer from mental illness and dyslexia. Life is difficult but I'm a fighter. I'm the weird friend. Lol.
Hi Dan, a trick I have used to help my son and youngest daughter when having a melt down in public is giving them cards, like business size cards to put in their pocket. On the cards it says I have ASD and am to not crowed touch or talk to me. The kids have pulled them out a few times in groups where people may not have understood them and obviously they start following them, they feel trapped. So now they just get out a card or several chuck them in the direction of whom ever they need and they finally get the time they need. It was really awesome for when they do afterschool stuff. Because not everyone knows and these are usually things they don't find easy but we want them to try so we can get a better understanding and they get more life skills. Great vid 😊👍
I know people with autism but I don't know much about it, or Asperger syndrome; your channel is super interesting and informative! Keep doing what you do.
Asperger's is now just autism. It recently got changed so it's no longer used by experts but some autistics still use it. It's all Autism spectrum disorder now.
Hey Dan! I have Asperger's and I just started watching your videos. They're awesome and I can relate to a lot of them! On one of your next videos you should talk about what it's like for an Aspie to grow up with siblings. I have a younger sibling and growing up as an Aspie elder was very particular.
I have changed so much now I am 23 and remember I was bullied back in school because the bullies loved my reaction and I don't like being touched it wasn't my fault because I have aspergers but that is all in the past you awesome keep doing what you are doing I just subscribed to you stay awesome
Thank you for your awesome videos! I've always known I was different but when a friend asked me if I am autistic, i didn't even really know what that meant. So i started researching it, and yours was the first autism channel i started watching. The more I watched, the more I wondered if my friend was right. It was very difficult finding a doctor to evaluate a 35 year old female, but I did. And I was diagnosed with autism and OCD yesterday. Thanks again for all the great videos- you rock =)
I sometimes lose my balance. I can get dizzy but maybe it’s just because I’m exhausted but doctors haven’t found anything else 🤔 I suffer from anxiety a lot due to my aspergers & that can cause stomach issues even if I eat healthy. I just try to make sure I’m not thinking too negatively but not too positively either. That’s what my psychiatrist recommended: mixing both together. There are doctors in the US that can diagnose aspergers. The one I know of is stationed in Maryland. As for jobs, I feel like it depends on what the aspie/autistic individuals’ passions are. I can’t stand coffee. Too strong, too nasty. Thanks for the video dan. I’m starting a new thing with groups of people with aspergers/autism/Down syndrome etc. Hope to get a good turnout next time.

Hi, Dan! My son has some sensory issues just like you (chewing things, sounds, etc) Can you make a video about sensory problems that you have and how you feel? I usually try to stop him, forbid self stimulation, stimming..but I am not sure that this is the right thing.. appreciate any advice. Thank you. Please, keep talking about important things.:)
Telling someone I have autism doesn't work most of the time nowadays. I've had at least two occasions, maybe even four, where the other person thinks I am joking. I say maybe four because at least one time, they just stop talking to me. It seemed like they were offended I made a joke, not realizing I was being serious, and their response was to not acknowledge my existence (like what people do if they think someone is a troll). the situation was already awkward to begin with, and telling them I am autistic to try and make it less awkward, only making it more awkward when they take it the wrong way.
Love your videos. I am non-diagnosed ASD. The reason I have not been able to get a diagnosis is partly the expense and partly the fact that I am in my late thirties and have learned coping mechanisms that reduce my anxiety/depression and help me deal with my condition. What are the pros and cons of getting a diagnosis at this stage do you think?
If my offer my opinion :-) It offers you confirmation of what has been going on and hopefully find even more ways to handle the problems better. It's also a way to give a name to why you think or function in a certain way. Knowing you have it can lessen some of the anxiety, since knowledge helps. You can get adaptation to work, medication I think? (Cbd is illegal in my country) and a few other benefits. Even if you want to take a few University courses you might be eligible for support there as well, but only if diagnosed. In my country you can easier get welfare since as some say, having autism can make it harder to land a job. It's an extra layer of income security. Other than that, it's up to you if you want others to know about it or not. I found it beneficial to tell close friends and family, but not to others. But that is my personal judgement. Telling your diagnosis to a potential employer might result in them not hiring you or if it's an understanding employeer it results in some customizations that makes the job easier for you.
I am 35 and have been wondering for a while if I'm autistic. After researching, i can look back away my whole life and it's obvious, but I was never correctly diagnosed. I couldn't handle not knowing if my suspicions were right or not, so I sought out a doctor who specializes in autism and actually evaluates adults.... and I just received my autism diagnosis yesterday. I have never felt more at peace. To me it was totally worth it to still get a diagnosis at this age. My life makes sense now. Best of luck if you decide to seek evaluation!
What do you think about the DSM-5 that no longer speaks of Aspergers/Pdd-Nos etc. but just calls it "autism spectrum disorder" and covers it in levels of 1 to 3? I have been diagnosed with ASD level two, and i feel a bit left out from most autism narratives as most people call themselves aspies and so forth and i am not really able to relate because, even though I would probably be called Asperger in the past, they no longer want to use that word. Yet most books, youtube channels etc. use the word Aspergers.
How do I explain to my roommate that I have Aspergers and I am very attached to him due to autism? And get anxious when he has to be away from home overnight or longer? He thinks I am being clingy and overemotional.

@@tiffinwonderland7243 Just because someone may have a psychological problem doesn't mean they automatically need meds. I have major depression as well as Aspergers, when I first was diagnosed with major depression the drs wanted me to be on antidepressants, they almost killed me due to the constant side effects, despite me changing the antidepressant I was on. They all had the same side effects to me. Which were horrible. So now I do holistic, no side effects and it works just as well.
@@heathenwolf4997 Not all do. This is true. But if your getting diagnosed my suggestion is to go to Psychiatrist because They are Required to go to medical school and speciality. And can perscribe if needed. psychologists are not required to go to med school and cannot perscribe. Thus, will have less years of training to diagnose.
My husband has trouble communicating making small talk, affection, emotional bonds, empathy, talks to me in a loud rude dictating voice and says he doesn't realize . Best place to get a diagnosis in the US is a Psychologist
Actually a psychiatrist is better. They actually have to have a medical degree and also can perscribe any meds that might be needed.
