@@GarageGymRadioI’m glad I turned RUclips on tonight! The Internet has been down in our county all day so I’m catching stuff here and there. Looks like I missed Jake’s live tonight too!
When discussing safety arms, it’s important to first define their purpose. Did Surplus create their own version of a low-profile spotter arm? Yes. Is it different? Absolutely. In fact, their mounting system features a significantly more robust bracket, making it stronger overall. The same concept applies to the anchor. Did someone build on a fantastic idea? Yes. Is it different enough? I would argue that it is. What concerns me most about this conversation is the "mob mentality" you described, which fosters a toxic culture. While it may defend certain individuals, it often unfairly targets others. Take Mutant and Rogue as an example-it’s a situation that led to a relatively positive outcome, and I’m genuinely happy for Chris, especially given his challenges with scaling production. On the other hand, ideas in this industry can develop in different ways. Some are influenced by what people see in the market, while others emerge independently but are developed simultaneously by different individuals or companies. When the second version comes to market, it can appear as though it was copied, even when it wasn’t. People need to recognize that stifling innovation in this space could lead to a scenario where only a select few are allowed to develop ideas, while others are unfairly dismissed as imitators. That benefits no one. While it may not always be practical, the best way to protect your idea is to utilize intellectual property tools. Otherwise, you accept the inherent risks of the market. At the end of the day, awesome conversations gentlemen. I appreciate your takes
100% agree with this! I’ve been saying publicly since last year that it seems as if certain products can copy others without repercussions but if the person selling what looks like a copy isn’t part of a select group, they get vilified. Some of the same people complaining about copying have zero issues buying imitation MAG Grips, getting knockoff Drink Spotters on Etsy and I would wager that most of these purists have belt squats from sources other than Matt Wenning.
@@flexmarksthespotsure but I think it’s a symptom of the tendency for people to pile on any negative bandwagon even if they never spent any money to support the original product themselves. I mean most people who claim to only buy the original product don’t drive a Mercedes Benz for example and aren’t outraged by the existence of other car brands who came out with their own spin on Karl Benz’s original design. I think the best solution is to reward companies that collaborate even while supporting entrepreneurs with innovative ideas.
I wouldn’t say this is a drama tbh. Darko hasn’t said anything about any of this, it’s more of the community talking about it after the force6 interview
There are a couple influencers I've totally written off as dweebs and shills because of how they've sat on the fence when this happens to small businesses. I'm sure they're nice guys but too chicken to risk that affiliate cash to do the right thing. Also, that CFT guy died last year in a car accident, his website's gone.
Home gym podcast is taking over the world. I’ve already commented on the force6 situation in enough videos/places. At this point I’m just tired of it. I also used the same ultimate mower storage solution as Jason: pay someone to mow my lawn.
People forget Jason used to talk a lot about Rogue and probably influenced some other product improvement and additions based on his DIY stuff trying to make the slinger and a monster lite rack good option, but they never really gave him the time of day or any credit. Underrated Even before one of the first prime code guys
Product copying is fine in my book. Helps us little garage gym guys be able to afford to get things in our gyms.. some companies charge crazy $$ and other companies make it available for half the cost or less. Im currently looking for a rack mounted ghd and the only decent one i see is gorilla venum ghd and its more expensive then the rogue abram 2.0 . .
I like the concept of variety in price points for products that serve the same basic purpose as well. Having access to the tools you need/want in order to achieve your health/fitness goals shouldn’t only be available to those who have the most money.
Gotta disagree with the whole “this is just the way things are get over it” mentality. 2 points here 1. Just because it is the way it is does not mean I have to support it 2. There is an arrogance when it comes to this situation that I also don’t think is applicable to other examples listed. Makes it very easy not to want to support one over the other.. All my opinion nothing to be presented as fact. DONT SUE ME FOR DEFAMATION BRO
@@flexmarksthespot figured you guys would. Great chat btw gents. Please do not interpret my take on the situation as criticism towards you guys nor the podcast. Having discussion like this is important in the community.
My worst purchaces were a titan pec deck/rear delt fly. I train powerlifting and just never used it. I bought a rep bench that was great but didn't store vertically so I had to fbmp it and get another.
Jason, For the next podcast can you make your camera focus on the white explorer instead 😂. Great chat guys. And, Adrian from Inner Instinct Strength was the 5th ever Rorman Strength customer. He has 1 of only 9 pairs from the very first batch of megalith handles that used to include a stainless steel weight horn.
I never understood why Eleiko filed a lawsuit against kabuki strength. The giant lifting open trap bar looks more like their bar than Kabuki’s. Kabuki’s bar wasn’t balanced, offered multiple thickness handles, different widths, heck the bar couldn’t even be used as a cambered bar. Giants looked A LOT more similar to eleikos.
I think the lawsuit with kabuki was filed before the Giant bar was released and since the verdict didn't go their way, they probably saw that future lawsuits would be handled similarly for the same issue. That's my guess.
The idea that all of this beef is kind of childish. As a consumer, I say show me why your product is best and why I should spend more for the premium or budget products. Darko buyers are not force 6 customers and major fitness customers are not rogue customers. If you have a better product, eagle me why it deserves more money and let the products speak for themselves vs creating separation in the community. Prx vs Kai news’s a little different because mistakes were made by both but they talked it out in the end like adults.
My gym is in my basement. I've got 40 stall mats down there, so I guess they are the official flooring of my home gym. By the time I got them down there, and in place, I felt like I didn't really need a gym anymore. I rolled them up with ratchet straps, put them on some towels and slid them down the stairs. I think all stall mats smell, and I suspect it almost always abates to the point of essentially no smell. The first Weider rubber hex dumbbells I bought from Wal-Mart smelled much, much worse than any stall mat I've ever been around. Those things actually did smell toxic, like they would give you cancer, or a very good buzz, but now they have essentially no odor.
Appreciate the encouraging words about my show MWPIG. I get a kick out of seeing you tuning in every Friday and chiming in on the live chat!

Yeah there's no simple black & white answer. Each situation has it's nuances in addition to the macro view of things

Maybe it was strategic given Kabuki is more of a high end competitor in line with elieko vs giant
