I just love that Odin’s avatar found himself in a new world and decided, “I’m gonna recreate my old Pantheon with the natives. Anyone’s welcome in the club, as long as you agree to let me give you a new name!”

"Thor! You have a woman's hammer! I'll wager that hammer has never been destroyed and then been brought back as an arbitrary plot device to prop up a slip of a girl as a pale imitation of yourself!"

The concept of how Odin and Hel came to be in Mystara reminds me of some missed opportunities in 5e. Exploring what happens when multiverse-spanning deities are unable to access certain universes because of stuff that happened. Like when Bahamut and Tiamat's local avatars on Kryn were made mortal, cutting the deities off from that universe for all time. Or how Eberron's entire cosmology was so different from everything else, so many multiversal beings can't access it.
An alternative version of this is the Aethera setting in Pathfinder, where an entire solar system was cut off from the outer planes, and that doesn't very strange things to Outsiders from those planes that are trapped within.

This is the one area where I changed mystara for my game. Immortal was just another name for a god in my home game. Normally called immortal by powerful wizards that didn’t recognize godhood as anything but long lived and powerful. That was just for me. Nothing wrong with doing it as written. It just didn’t work for me

To be honest I find the entire cosmology of mystara just makes the entire setting needlessly grim.
I mean when you think about it. Endless reincarnation over and over again is frankly kind of cruel. You either shoot for and become immortal, or you contiuesly reincarnate and lose all your previous memories connections, friends, etc. Only to be sent right back and sent to do it again.
I mean what about the people who don't have such lofty ambitions as becoming immortal and just want to have a nice plot of land, and a family? Just "Oh sorry man, but you need to be reincarnated over and over again until eventually you finally become the pinnacle of existence."
While the world of Mystara might be good for the few that make it to immortality, it overall just seems like the vast majority of people across every age just kind of lose out.

Plus glomming onto the Northern Reaches and relates cultures in the Hollow World for cultural loyalty or something. Or love of the pretty, pretty fjords.

I am almost positive I remember an adventure or source book that made mention of the Norse "gods" being attacked by & imprisoned in an alt reality or realm. With their avatars being allowed to stay in Mystara.

I still need to send that proposal on using the Great Barrier without the 4E Dawn War stuff. Could be a fun crossover of minds! ;)
(For one, Hel Goddess and Hel Immortal would enjoy the Demiurgos Society...)

Insinuated to be Ao, don't think another has been ever named. He was observing a rather angry dispute over souls. Skuld sought him out while everybody else was screaming at each other. Fanon from the vaults

@@DCJMS if you are using that version absolutely. I guess that would be the expanded aesir, though it doesn't go into the other immortals roles as fake Norse gods at all
