Ah yes, good ol' fake undead. Another honorable mention for that would be the Dusanu, which looks like a form of skeleton or lich but is actually a fungus that has taken over a corpse.
I just had a rather unasked-for knock at my door of the "Dramatic we came over to get free tech help from you" variety. This should help make that a bit less frustrating. Thanks for being so reliable. Update: I fixed it right as the video ended.
Probably the best one I haven't heard of before are the Ghostly Horde. You coud probably reflavor it into individual ghosts and then fill a haunted house with them. Bonus points if you also add in _other_ ghosts and undead so they party can never be sure which combat is actually dangerous. Nosferatu are pretty neat in that, depending on your tastes, they just make more sense than regular D&d vampires. Nightshades have popped up in other places, but they're pretty cool. They're a bit like the demons of the undead world.
@@sharondornhoff7563 A bummer. Though I guess Pathfinder did the opposite. It basically files them under "... and _these_ guys show up when the undead apocalypse has gone _real_ bad"
@Mr. Welch OMG, I have so many questions. Unfortunately, I’m at work right now so I’ll only ask you the biggest one. Could you please list off which ones were from the original Creature Catalog, not the reprinted one, and which ones from the Monstrous Manual/Compendium? Great video sir! Thank you for your great work!
That's the red creature catalog. The code was dmr2 or dungeon master resources. The green creature catalog was ac9. There's about 20 monsters between them that don't overlap
Hmmmmm Horrible customer service that barely speaks English my If I didn’t know better I’d swear that Dude you bought a Dell. This is Dell thank you come again, God I miss Apau😢.
Yo, I JUST used this as combat encounter for the first session of my new campaign, it was awesome. Sadly PCs won, thus not getting a plot hook they could pursue if even one of them got down. But I loved the atmosphere and confusion the Horde created. Worked amazing for Northen Reaches.
Honorable mention to the Thoul which is NOT undead but can be mistaken for one and combines the worst traits of a ghoul and a troll.

@@EvilDoresh Those monsters are filed under O for, "Oh fuck you, DM!"
So many plot hooks, the Vellia and the Death leech have so much potential.
Velya is how it's spelled.
I loved that reverse save mechanic, I had a probability altering creature that did the same with attack rolls.
A nosferatue would be interesting to encounter.
Surprised the sun wight from the Hollow World box set wasn’t included. Good work as usual though.
The last few seconds of the vid make me wanna to create stats for Dave Vanian as a D&D Nosferatu

Okay, that darkhood mechanic is great. That is how you shake up monster abilities to keep them from getting predictable.
What a great combination of monsters. Thanks for the video. Really enjoyable.

depending on your degree of semantics, they could have died at a siege, rather than a straight up battle.
@@henrikvridstoft2774 Nice. Then you could have an entire city full of them. And some wonder why the houses are so cheap...
The Ghostly Horde sounds pretty much identical to Swordwraiths. So I'd look at the swordwraith statblocks for whatever edition you run.
Nightshades got nerfed up the wazoo in their post-CD&D incarnations.

Do you think the grey philosopher comes from someone seeing Krynn’s philosopher spectral minion and saying, let’s make this guy a nightmare?
Looking at the books I think it predates it
Ravenloft vanpires get stronger as they age per the van richten guides and later books
Are you planning on making a similar video for all the shape changers and winged cretures of mystara? You've mentioned mystara has quite a few.
Oh yeah. They are definitely on the list
@@Mr_Welch looking forward to it.
Wow, how did I miss this one - great video
I like that you have more ghostly undead the monster manuals come up shirt on spirtatal undead
I think I can recall a druge (sp) that is stuck in an alley in Water deep from the old Volo's Guide to Water deep.

I will have to look because there is a ton of overlap. Almost all of them appear in the DMR catalog but the other three do have some exclusives

Ghostly Horde is a cool plot point or just a random encounter
