    Full court is only useful when you have a deep and young rotation. Pull this with a veteran squad and you're asking to be red shirted.

    I noticed that the 2004-2006 Pistons occasionally pressured full-court, though it was a temporary switch-up rather than a primary defensive tactic for them. It was usually just Lindsey Hunter pressuring the ball-handler 1-on-1 and leaving the other 4 defenders waiting in the half-court. But there were a decent amount of times where they also trapped the ball-handler with two defenders on the sidelines.
    After the 2004/05 rule changes I don't think many teams have found success with full-court pressure as the Pistons did when they occasionally ran it.
    The day after Game 4 of the 2005 Finals, Ben Wallace talked about how pressuring the guards helped make things more difficult on Duncan by running down the shot-clock.
    "I think our guard play is really the big key to slowing Duncan down, because they are pressuring up the floor and then when he does catch the ball, he's got to fight against either me, Rasheed, McDyess and the shot clock. So I see him get a little frustrated doing that."
    ...
    "So it's either, you force him off the block or if he gets deep post position, you front him. But I think that only works when our guards pressure, when our guards up pressure, it makes it easy for us to front down in the block where they can't just come down and throw the ball over the top of you."

    The high point of the Rick Pitino era in Boston was game # 1 of his tenure, a 92-85 win over the defending champ Bulls on Halloween night 1997.

    I remember the Celtics beat the defending-champion Bulls in their season opener (Oct. 31, 1997) and Rick Pitino's first game as Celtics coach. For that briefest of moments I actually thought the Celtics might go all the way that year but they finished like 10 games under .500 and missed the playoffs that year.

    • @sean2015
      @sean2015 5 лет назад +2

      @@dougfresh4454 what you've written is very true but I personally think that Rick Pitino spent his entire time in Boston very bitter that he didn't get Tim Duncan and/or Keith Van Horn in that '97 draft. Even with Bowen and Billups in that lineup the Celtics were still missing a legitimate center -- which they eventually got with Kendrick Perkins and later Kevin Garnett.

    Ah i used to call this Celtics team the Boston Wildcats since Pitino drafted several of his Kentucky players to this team (Walker, Mercer, McCarty)

    • @kevinsanders8023
      @kevinsanders8023 2 года назад +1

      Walker and McCarty were drafted in 96 and rookies for the 96-97 season. McCarty was with the Knicks before the Celtics. Pitino came to the Celtics for the 97-98 season, he drafted Mercer yes, but not Walker or McCarty.
