It’s kinda wild to think how far we’ve come with Epics. Marvel really struck gold with this line imo, really looking forward to completing my collection one day!
What I love about the Epic Collections is the formality of the spines when display them on the shelf. As someone who has minor OCD it means a lot having a constant spine a collection format
In my personal opinion this is the ultimate format to collect all Marvel chronologically. First because it's seems to be really organized, second because is not so big as the omnibus version and it's perfect to save space and third because is much more cheap than the omnibus. I looking forward to see the entire libray of Marvel in this format and would be very happy if DC did the same with his Golden, Silver and Bronze Age omnibus in TPB version.
I’m with you on the paper, man. That rougher textured paper makes art look so much more attractive. That’s why I preferred Snyder’s Batman in TPB compared to other formats. Something about that rough feeling...
I LOVE the Epics. I sometimes think if I were to start over with my collection, I would have foregone omnibuses for the epics. One other advantage of the Epics is that you can hold one in your hands and read it. Omnibuses can be a bit awkward and unwieldy.
THANK YOU, Omar. This was exactly the kind of info I was looking for on Epic Collections. My drug of choice are omnis, but I know that a lot of these runs will never see an omni format. Some characters I want to read as sequentially as possible, so it seems like Epic Collections are my best bet.
I started collecting these over the last year. The lack of numbering in the listings (or anywhere besides the back cover) was actually pretty annoying. They are usually just listed by title (eg "Spiderman: With Great Power"). I had to look up each book individually to figure out which volume it actually was.
Cool video Omar. I was brought here from the Top 10 Epic Collections video..I didn't know they started in 2013! So I guess they started these right after the 107 Volume Premiere Classic Hardcover Series ended. Only the Direct Market Editions were numbered of those. I personally think they really don't get enough love! I love them. Sure, they're not Oversized, but the quality is there. They're Hardcover. They range from 4 to 17 issues each. Will you do a video talking about them? I'd love to see that! I started really getting into Collected Editions February 2022 last year. I only had like 15 I'd amassed in the 8 years I'd collected comics. Before I got knee deep in the Omni game, I was going after all of the Marvel Premiere Classic Hardcovers. I've taken a break for a bit, but I'm up to 30 Volumes (32 total cuz some I have both the Standard & the DM Edition). I'm going to get back into them soon after I scratch a few more Omnis off my list!
I just bout soooooo many of the Spider-Man epics. I dont really like reading Hard Covers so the idea I'm actually gonna be able to read Amazing Spiderman start to finish is amazing!
12: Daredevil/Fantastic Four. I would really love to start reading Epics since i think they have a dope concept and this video really helped me understand it
stoping the epic collections at onslaught made sense 7 years ago when it was 2013 but here we are 7 years later and the releases are so slow, we'll just continue to get further ahead in time so it only makes sense to bring the epics forward as we go, theres plenty of new stopping points now like dark reign or heroic age or marvel now. I hope they reprint the ones that are out of print too, I wanna try and get as many as possible next year. Spider-Man is the only one i kept up with and even then i dont have the most recent 2.
Super useful video! I'd love to collect this line, They're a great size, I love the names of the volumes, and the books look so good lined up on a shelf.
Good video! This isn't the kind of books I buy. I prefer to buy hardcover volumes (as long as they are not too large, I hate those heavy 1000-pagers omnibuses) or even better, the actual issues. That being said, I knew nothing of this collection prior to watching your video, but I now must say that I like the design, with no numbers on the spine. This way, you can buy only volumes that covers the runs you like without having a bookcase that seem to have gaps in your collection. You said that you didn't like the Marvel Essential collection, and you were right to point out that black and white only, and cheap paper was not the best way to collect stories. But what I like with Essentials was: the price. Epic collections cost at least 3 times the price of an Essential volume, often for less pages. Essentials were great when you just wanted to read the stories for the price of a cheap meal at an hamburger joint. Then, if you liked them, you could hunt down the actual issues, or invest in a nice hardcover edition. Then you could pass the Essential to a friend. No biggies since they were so cheap. You could bring this to the beach, lend it, you didn't care if it got damaged, it was not really a collectible.
The Comic book industry needs to release their comics in volume format. It's the only way for the comic book industry not to get swallowed whole by manga.
I'm totally late, but looks like #30 is still in a game, so be it. Defenders & Excalibur, just the lines I collect and volumes I do not have. Great video!
32. Daredevil & FF! Nice video. I've been thinking about picking up some of the Star Wars Epic Collections as they seem to be the best way to read the old Dark Horse comics. Those seem to go more in order too to my knowledge. Edit: Dang, there were less than 30 comments before I refreshed lol!
As a DC fan. I am very jealous of Marvel fans. Marvel has so many different editions of their comics(essentials, epic collections, master works, better omnibuses, treasurey editions etc.) DC doesn't editions to offer and some of them are discontinued. Such as the archive editions. Hell even some characters don't even continue their classic collected edition in trade paperback such Deathstroke the terminator by Marv Wolfman

Be wary, with the quality of papers they used for these books, overtime they will first turn yellowish then brown just like the Essential line (or all comic books in the last century).
I made a comment on this video about a month ago, now I have a slight problem. If I ever get to meet you Omar I don't know if I want to shake your hand or punch you in the nose for introducing to me something else to collect (just kidding). The Epic Collection books are awesome, I have bought 18 volumes this past month. I've bought various books but I really like the Star Wars collections. I like how Marvel was able to fill in the void between the Original Marvel Years and the return to Marvel in 2015. The Star Wars comics of the Dark Horse or should I say the Dark Side years needed to be put in larger collected volumes. Fingers crossed for some Omnibus', Thanks Omar & the rest of the Near Mint Condition crew for all the great videos.
Thanx again dude. Love Epics! I recently started collecting them. I had to start with Surfer, he is an awesome character who doesnt get enough love sometimes.

I want to collect as much of spideys run starting from the start so which collections series should I get for an affordable price (relatively)? (I’m not a fan of the omnibus because there big size )
Thanks for bringing to us this wonderful and very informative vid. The epic line by the way is in my honest opinion the most appreciated series many collectors like me have waited for. It brings a lot of stuff (Spider-Man/X-Men and other X titles/Avengers/FF) in a collected format which is hard to find in any other edition.
Although i haven't collected any of them, the marvel epic line already seems awesome! It's probably my favorite that marvel did for us in a while! P.s, just in my opinion, if anyone were to start collecting the marvel epic line, then they should really start with spider man first, just saying.
@11:15 The upcoming X-Force Epic Collection volume will also cover the whole X-Cutioner's Song crossover which I'm totally down with :). Another cool video, nice
I'm collecting everything Daredevil at the moment, and the epic collections have been great because there's no way I'm opening my golden age daredevils every time I feel like rereading.
Epic collections are an awesome deal and I love that they exist. Now, personally I don't collect them because they would be just another title I have to keep track of and buy and I have enough of those as is. The only ones I was gonna purchase are 2 New Mutants volumes (Renewal and Demon Bear Saga) but I wanted to buy em together and then the first one recently went OOP just before the second's release so I guess not haha.
I know you said you're not a fan of the Essentials, and I totally get it, but Essential Wolverine vol 1 is a HUGE exception, imo. Wolverine's Madripoor adventures looked great in B&W, it really accentuated their Noir vibe. Overall though, the Epic Collection does look to be a big upgrade.
@@NearMintCondition Cheap, and jam packed! Honestly, I'm probably a bit biased, seeing how I didn't just become enamored with my favorite character, Wolverine through the Essentials, but also Daredevil, Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, and The All-New, All-Different X-Men. They were a kid working for min wage's dream.
Basically trade omnis. I would be tempted if they collected everything, but just like the omnis people will end up with gaps as you pointed out. I think the Ultimate Collections were the best non-hardcover collections; each one was just every comic released in a certain year, regardless of writers, artists, or events. Good video though, I had been wondering what these were like.
I have no problem with the Omnibi other than their sporadic releases and lack of re-issues. I prefer my collections be durable and have a life in collections beyond my own. Trade paperback glue tends to dry out and crumble easier than you think so I'd rather the spines hold out for more than just 15 years.
@@NearMintCondition My point exactly. The hardcovers have to be abused for the spines to wear out. Or overloaded. Some of these omnibi are a bit too thick to be justifiable. That's what happened with the Rising Stars omnibi (I know, Image doesn't do "Omnibi"): book was too thick and the spine stripped itself under the weight.
It’s kinda wild to think how far we’ve come with Epics. Marvel really struck gold with this line imo, really looking forward to completing my collection one day!

If I were to buy epics to cover the uncanny xmen dark phoenix saga, what #'s do I buy?
Although i haven't collected any of them, the marvel epic line already seems awesome! It's probably my favorite that marvel did for us in a while!
P.s, just in my opinion, if anyone were to start collecting the marvel epic line, then they should really start with spider man first, just saying.
Spider-man and Fantastic Four is where I usually point people to.
@11:15 The upcoming X-Force Epic Collection volume will also cover the whole X-Cutioner's Song crossover which I'm totally down with :). Another cool video, nice
Thank you so much. Interesting that they are also releasing the X-Cutioner's Song in Milestone format.
Im a completist and i just started getting spiderman and i was hoping i was just bad at finding things bc of the huge gaps
LOL It's a common misconception. You were not alone, brother.
I'm collecting everything Daredevil at the moment, and the epic collections have been great because there's no way I'm opening my golden age daredevils every time I feel like rereading.
With the announcement of the Modern Era epics I’m thinking of getting all the DD in epics and then getting the omnis for Waid/Soule/Zdarsky
I like the epic collections a lot more than the previous run of tpbs that were cheaper quality and in black and white.
Well the good news is that volume 1 will be back into print.
Hey guys i already bought vol 1 and 2 but i can not find 3 or 4
I think West Coast Avengers are now completed in epic collections?
44 - Excalibur lot. Awesome content!!
Will I still understand what’s going on even though they aren’t released in order?
You sure will. As it throws you in the middle of stories, but the writers back then wrote every issue like it was everyone’s first.
It was the overall presentation . The paper and the black and white paper. Phone book style of books. But man, they were so cheap.
Again very informative as I don't have any Epic. Thanks for the layout
Thank you so much for the kind words.
I'm probably too late but here we go: The new defenders/Excalibur. And I'm from Sweden
Thank you so much for the kind words. But I love the way you describe them. Trade omnis.
I have no problem with the Omnibi other than their sporadic releases and lack of re-issues. I prefer my collections be durable and have a life in collections beyond my own. Trade paperback glue tends to dry out and crumble easier than you think so I'd rather the spines hold out for more than just 15 years.
I've got some from the late 80s that still hold strong, but man, most fell apart.
24. Daredevil F4. Thanks for doing this giveaway!
Love the epic collection thanks for the video Omar
Thank you so much.
25. Fantastic Four & Daredevil
19. Excalibur/Defenders. Love the channel. Found it when you crossed over with Kurtis.
Thank you so much. He was a joy to have on and I Would love another episode with him.
What's the best and cheapest way to buy marvel epic collections???
