    I absolutely loved Debbie. She excelled in anything she did. Her daughter Carrie said that her mom was self taught. She learned how to act, sing, dance, this woman did it all and I loved her sense of humor. Never a catty word came out of her mouth. She endured bad marriages. Her last husband stole her millions and wanted to kill her. Quite a story.

    So sad to see Carrie and Debbie's collection auctioned off. If I had money I would have all these treasures and memorabilia displayed. I hope a museum will purchase most of the things.

      Debbie tried to do this for years & even had a museum in Las Vegas in the 90's which went bust when she was alive - but Hollywood & The Academy refused. Talk about idiotic. Way to preserve your history Hollywood. 1st you sell off MGM backlots, then the costumes to many infamous movies/movie stars then snub the only person who is willing to save it. This thinking by Hollywood defies belief.

      They tried building a museum. They tried putting it in a museum. She had the items displayed in her casino. No one ever wanted to do anything. She sold a lot of pieces before she died. He’s selling what’s left.

      Hollywood studios don't care about preserving their history. Look at what has become of so many early films. Just gone, due to improper storage.

    I just find it sad that Debbie Reynolds spent nearly her whole life collecting Hollywood artifacts that are relevant to US history(IMO) and her son isn't even trying to keep these last remaining pieces, he's quickly making a decision to just sell them off to the highest bidder and therefore these pieces wont ever be accessible to the public. I don't understand why he thinks his mother would approve of this. I think his mother wanted these items accessible to the public.

    • @smurf5388
      @smurf5388 6 лет назад +9

      Melissa Skillens he went into debt with his mother to get many of these items to try to get a museum created. Hollywood was not supportive. Debbie had two auctions before she died. The third auction was always planned.

    It is my understanding Ms. Reynolds offered her Hollywood collection to the Hollywood museum they are now building have built...they refused. Don't know the details, was she offering it free, for sale. Regardless she got into debt saving these items and worked so hard to maintain history and to do years ago what they are now attempting to do. She was not attempting to create a missing tourist attraction museum, she was attempting to maintain the history of "Old Hollywood." Good on her!

    Why don't they turn the properties into a museum and let the public enjoy the collections rather than selling everything off? They could still make money for charity and the integrity of their possessions would be maintained.

  • @jbt6007
    @jbt6007 7 лет назад +12

    So sad ..... I love how they keep saying, "SOME of the proceeds are going to charity" in other words probably not much. That was a quick cash grab by the family......and Debbie and Carrie did all the hard work.

    • @chasingautumns
      @chasingautumns 7 лет назад +5

      That's what happens when you die. Your family gets your stuff. My family auctioned off my grandparents stuff. What are you supposed to do? Put it in storage? Just give it all away? What's the difference?

    • @smurf5388
      @smurf5388 6 лет назад +6

      Quick cash grab? That’s Debbie’s son. That’s Carries brother. When Debbie was ill, he was there. When Carrie was ill, he was there. Where were you?

    • @lekkki1
      @lekkki1 6 лет назад

      It actually was not a quick cash grab. The stuff was rotting away. Debbie spent 15 years and millions of dollars and couldn't get donors to help her with a Hollywood memorabilia museum. Debbie left millions to Todd and Billie
      Carrie left millions to Billy.
      None of these people needed the money so much as they needed to find good homes for the mountains of memorabilia left behind by Debbie.

    • @dec23
      @dec23 4 года назад +2

      It's her son for crying out loud. Read his book 'My Girls." Carrie and Debbie weren't the only ones working, Todd was the man in their lives and he rescued them every time. I would say it was a working family, each putting in their weight. He especially took care of his mother I would say. She had a ton of financial and production problems and Todd was the only person she could trust. He did a lot of work for her.

    • @marcosvalenca

      I don't think Reynolds and Fisher left any debt. The press has estimated their wealth and they weren't destitutes. The auction company must know the best time to put stuff on the block. Let's just hope the memorabilia nets a good deal of money for Todd and Billie. I wonder if the piece of jewlery Elizabeth Taylor left Reynolds will be auctioned as well.

      The "museum" closed a long time ago when Reynolds' Las Vegas hotel went out of business. Reynolds' greatest items, like Marilyn Monroe's subway dress, were auctioned for millions of dollars, more than enough to pay for storage and keep some for herself. Reynolds had thousands of items.

  • @GeeBee909

    Hollywood is a strange place. Debbie had been collecting motion picture memorabilia since 1970. She tried several times to open a museum and asked the Motion Picture Academy for help. They refused. THEN, in 2021, they turn around and OPEN a museum themselves, essentially doing EXACTLY what Debbie was trying to do, except they wouldn't help HER do it. THEIR museum holds over 13 million objects including costumes, film reels, posters, props, and screenplays dating back to 1927. Again, they did the EXACT SAME THING SHE WAS TRYING TO DO. QUESTION: WHY didn't they help Debbie with HER museum??? WHY didn't they purchase her entire collection (which they could have easily done) either from Debbie when she was alive, or at her estate sale???? Weird, their "logic" makes NO sense. Maybe they were mad because it was HER idea??? Someone at the Academy needs to answer these important questions, and I hope her son finds this out.

    Why auction? Why not turn it into a museum? Debbie always wanted to open a museum to display all the Hollywood memorabilia she collected over the years . I cant imagine how they can action off “everything” along with selling their two homes. The history alone of Carrie’ house was also the home dwelling of Bette Davis

      Did you see how much stuff there is??? I know from having gone through this with my own relatives (though we had no money), other people's houses full of their stuff is just too much for anyone to keep. What did you want him to do: get storage units and pay thousands a month to hoard it all? Much better to keep a trinket or two and otherwise remember the person - not be a slave to their stuff.

    • @sisterluke

      I don't know the business of Todd Fisher but I thought he wanted to turn the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio into something of a tribute for his mother with some of her Hollywood memorabilia exhibited in there. My guess is that Debbie and Carrie had a zillion personal belongings and Todd, Billie and other family members probably chose what they wanted to keep before auctioning off the rest.

    I have to ask 'What the hell was this 'Ginger Zee' thinking wearing a horrific ensemble that she wore in this clip??? Has she no taste? Does she even know fashion? Whoever allowed her to wear that outfit (whatever it is.) should be either fired or shot. If she chose it - my god.... she needs to have a few lessons on what blouse goes with certain jeans/slacks & Boots/shoes. Uggggghhhhh!
